A murder mystery, not my usual fare, with a sweet romance woven in…I truly enjoyed this one. Well-written.
Incrediblely addictive
I read this book because it was part of a reading challenge at my kids’ school. I liked it so much I tried to get my hands on the second book, but no one around me has it available just yet, so now I wait. It was a great start, and a lovely finish, with lots of calamity in the middle. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery of it, the dreadful high school feel of it (I survived!), and although I didn’t love what was going on with all the drama, or how they treated some of it, I was able to still rate this book four stars. My favorite part was going back and forth and switching it up when the different characters’ voices explained things from chapter to chapter. A couple of times I was a tiny bit confused about some details, but it could’ve just been me, not any error of the plotting and writing. I also read this was Karen’s debut album, so wow, yeah, she was so ready. And like I said, I’m ready to see what happens in “One of Us is Next,” which I guess comes out next month, so yay! Congrats!
One of my favorite books ever! Loved the story and thought the characters are good for the book loved how they included regular highschool drama and romance too. Never expected the ending!
This book… took me on a trip. There were tons of unpredictable plot twists, including the finale. I recommend this book for anyone with a love of mysteries and really well-rounded characters.
Compulsively readable, well-paced and compelling characterisation. A thoroughly enjoyable mystery.
Really good! Kept me in suspense the whole time while reading it, and everything was very unpredictable! 🙂 I loved it and gave it to a friend to read, and she loved it too!
I believe this is a book written for young adults, since the characters are primarily high school students. I thought it was well done, very complicated, and dealt with a lot of issues very deftly. Five students are in detention one afternoon when something goes terribly wrong. The students are then thrust into a terrible situation, with many people turning on them as their secrets are revealed.
It is a story of the difficulties of teenage years, high school, relationships, drugs, parenting, expectations, pressure, friendships, suspicion, social media, and more.
I really enjoyed reading about these characters, and what they were dealing with in their lives. I liked reading about their relationships and how they struggled to cope. I am looking forward to the next book by this author!

I think this book is great for teens and pre-teens, I read this in eighth grade and instantly loved it
One of the best mysteries I’ve read in ages!
5 high school students get detention, 1 ends up dead. This book is full of the normal high school drama. Prom Queen, All-Star Baseball player, Brainiac, social media guru and the delinquent, who have nothing in common and 1 death brings them all together.. I liked the way this book was written in the perspective of each of the characters.
This was pretty intense and twisted for a debut novel! I loved it. Not once did I suspect the outcome.
It’s honestly an amazing book. I normally like mystery books in general, and with a touch of romance… its perfect! The characters have multiple layers, each very compelling and unique in their own way. The plot is also very compelling, couldn’t stop turning the pages! I wasn’t disappointed at the end either, wrapped up very nicely!
Billed as “The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars,” and it doesn’t disappoint! I loved this book–gobbled it right up. A wonderful summer vacation read!
Seems like everyone has already read this, but if you haven’t, it’s an awesome YA whodunit with a bit of romance thrown in there. (Loved that part especially!) It’s told in four different point of views, which can get a tiny bit confusing sometimes, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment! I highly recommend it if you’re looking to read a book you can’t put down.
Love this book! I’m reading it for the second time right now, which is VERY rare for me, so that says something! Recommend to anyone who loves a little murder mystery with a romantic twist…
I loved this book it is simple relationship wise and complex storyline wise .it is so addictive I read it within like a month and books usually take me two months or so to read if you are or have a teenager I highly recommend it
Simon, Brownyn, Cooper, Addy, Nate.
5 went to detention.
4 left detention alive.
The only thing these five have in common is they are all have something to hide. I enjoyed getting to peek behind the curtain on all of them and see their lives unravel in the after math and see them discover just how connected they are when they are trying to put the pieces back together.
A story full of twists and complications to keep things interesting. Love her wordsmithing, with many fascinating turns of phrases. Too many sideshows that let my mind drift off and warranted a star deduction. The constant switch among four different first-person points of view, including within chapters, also irritated me.
The ending was certainly creative in its complexity, but I’m not convinced all the moving pieces could fall into place the way they did.
This is an amazing book it includes lost of twists and turns. This book does touch on some mature content but I would recommend it to people who don’t usually read murder mysteries. I personally don’t usually read scary books and I really enjoyed it.
