After seeing this series around so much I thought it’s time to read it and know for myself why it’s so hyped.
I enjoyed it much more than I expected and, although there were many predictable moments for me and the ending is quite satisfying, it did left me wanting more and I’ll definitely read the next books in the series very soon.
What if someone was murdered during The Breakfast Club – and there was Snapchat? That’s all I could think as I listened to this excellent audiobook. I love an ensemble cast and all of the actors/actresses were perfect in their narrations.
There are so many elements of classic thrillers and procedurals, mixed with high school intrigue and the world of social media and bloggers. Teens from different worlds, bonding because of a messed-up traumatic event, but also suspicious of each other! Detectives using game theory! Secrets abound! And then title of the book is always in your mind: One of Us is Lying. You never really trust any of the narrators.
This was a great YA thriller/mystery, with a little bit of romance thrown in. The story moved along at a great pace and I couldn’t stop listening. It kept me guessing for a long time. Some people have said the ending was predictable, but I don’t know if you could predict exactly how everything played out. And that’s what made this book so enjoyable. I can’t wait to listen to the sequel.
When i started this book it was amazing, i fell in love with the character’s in this book you follow 4 kids and 4 different perspectives, you follow Addy the popular girl and her life and thought’s during this time, you also follow Cooper the jock how his family is vs what other people see, you also follow Nate the troublemaker (kind of drug dealer) and why he is the way he is, and finally you follow Browyn the nerd and her life and why she is a nerd and study’s so much. I sat down to read the first 2 chapter’s ended up sitting down for 2 hours and reading this, there was so many things happening at once i had to reread some parts to understand but this book i became so involved with this book it was like i couldn’t stop reading it, no spoiler’s but the ending is not at all what i thought it was going to be so, it was also very unpredictable at times and sometimes you knew what was going to happen this is definitely a 5 star book for me. This is just my opinion this is not what everyone who reads this will feel.
What a creative book! Definitely trying to explore the perfect murder. I felt drawn in by the characters and came to love them more as the story went on. I thought the plot was original and engaging, and the writing was clever! Worth reading for sure!
My favorite book so far!
One of Us Is Lying This book is so awesome! never in my life have I read a more interesting plot, the plot is filled with a HEAP of unexpected twists and turns. LOVE IT!!!!
It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, but I had high expectations. Off the bat, it’s an easy-read with simplistic writing, descriptions here and there. If you have an imagination, or experience with crime novels, then the “foreshadowing” is the explanation, I first suspected the murder before I read it, just as an idea and after describing the characters in-dept for a quick minute, I knew who did it, and what they had done. Since it started out stating that it was a stereotype (The brain, the beauty, the criminal, the athlete, and the outcast) and I thought it would push through those walls and develop the characters further, it didn’t. A great example, Addy (The beauty), after (kinda SPOILER) breaks up with her boyfriend, she goes through an identity crisis, literally asking herself if I’m not Jake’s girlfriend who am I, and even trying to find a hobby because her entire life was wrapped around this boy.
I like all the people in the book and it gave me a surprise when, I found out who the kill is and why it happen.
My favourite part is when I found out what everyone’s secret.
People who like a bit of mystery, murder and lies should read ‘one of us is lying’.
This book is one of the most amazing books I have ever read and I cannot wait to start reading the next one in the sequel, which is known as ONE OF US IS NEXT……..
When five teens find themselves in detention, a death that should tear them apart only forces them closer than ever. As everyone in town, and the national media, tries to pit them against one another, they realize the only way to solve the crime is to do so together. Such great character and world building from McManus, I couldn’t put the book down for a single second!
oh my lord it’s taken me how long to finally read this book? yeah to long the second i started reading it i didn’t want to sleep and stop. sooooo good.
I loved this book!!!
So you take a ride on a mystery train through Whodunnitville. At times you think you know who the real culprit is, and in the end it turned out I was right, but not before a few twists and turns along the way.
I loved these four characters who were under investigation. Nate, the bad boy who turns out to not be so bad. Addy, the girl who earns her place as one of my favorites in the story. Cooper, the jock you love instead of hate. Then Bronwyn. The smartest girl around.
Now I want more!! I’m off to purchase an ecopy of One Of Us Is Next.
Once I got going with this book, I couldn’t stop. I had it pretty well figured out, but that actually added to the story.
LOVE IT!!
This story is a fast moving homage to living your life online. The characters experience how quickly you can be destroyed from info online and the mystery is good but sad.
Absolutely brilliant
Oh my stars that was a stellar book.
A fantastic cast of characters (there were more characters than I was expecting), an intriguing and realistic mystery and conclusion, and such fantastic character growth.
I’ve loved mysteries my entire life. So it’s sometimes hard for me to have low expectations.
McManus definitely knows who to draw a reader in and keep them hooked!
I love following the bread crumbs…
I do believe the hype surrounding this book is validated. Karen McManus wrote a complete stunner with One of Us Is Lying. It was exciting and so well written that the mystery really keeps you on your toes. It almost had a breakfast club type feel where this unlikely group of students are pushed together due to extreme circumstances. I loved all the characters, the good and bad. We see both the good and ugly in each character without favoring one over the other. How much they all change during the whole murder investigation was something I really enjoyed. This book was so good. I’m so happy I finally read it.
I feel like it was a bit of amateur writing, but it leaves you wondering what’s happening next. Would like a different ending, it was creative, nevertheless.
