Rebecca Mayfield has always been a by-the-book cop until Richie Amalfi enters her life–and makes her want to throw the book at him! Now, Richie’s accused of murder and runs to Rebecca to help him prove his innocence. She’s completely flummoxed by this, but the more she learns about the case, the more convinced she is that he’s not guilty. Will she break all the rules to help him, or do her job … job the way she’s been taught? And what are the consequences for either choice?
As dangers lurk and more deaths happen, Rebecca discovers there’s a lot more to Richie than she thought and a lot more to like than she imagined, she fears not only for her life, but also her heart.

Just like the main character, Rebecca Mayfield, you never quite figure out Richie Amalfi. Is he a good guy or one of the bad ones? Really makes you want to read the next in the series to learn more about him.
a fun and entertaining book to read. enjoyed the dynamic between the two characters
Love the whole series!!!! Great characters!
A most entertaining novel centered around the world of gambling and big casinos
I really like the way this author writes so I gobble up everything I get my hands on…and have not been disappointed! I included action-packed as a way to describe the story, but it’s not really what I would call an “action” story.
An unlikely story, but interesting to see what happens next. San Francisco PD Inspector Rebecca Mayfield harbors the prime suspect, withholds evidence, and avoids answering questions about the case. The prime suspect and his friends help her with the investigation. Most improbable.
Great book. Very entertaining
I am now waiting for book 7 to come out. She is a very entertaining author. Do not miss ANY of the books in this series, to best be read in order as it is a continuing story!
A cop who decides to deal with a suspect…?? Crazy! I loved it. Ms Pence, you are a great story teller and I look forward to Two O’clock Hustle.
This is just a ok book. The romance got in the way of the mystery so it ended up not being a great mystery book nor a great romance book. Fast easy read. The audio was good. Not something I would recommend nor loan to a friend. I won’t be reading anymore from this author either. I really want more substance to the characters and plot. The main character had bad judgment and unbelievable got away with it. Not really realistic so much so I kept thinking really??!!!
Worth reading, but rather unrealistic that she didn’t hand in the main suspect instead of working with him to solve the case.
Stupid book
Great summer read. Totally enjoyable.
Very entertaining
Just didn’t like it.
not a must read
good book
I’ve read the first six in this series & have enjoyed everyone of them. Love the characters! If you like Janet Evanovich you will definitely enjoy these.
This is a mystery with enough action to keep the reader engaged and interested from beginning to end. The heroine is a strong, sassy woman, which is always a plus.
Everything a cozy should be. Light romance, well-drawn characters, a good plot, an excellent view of San Francisco neighborhoods — and an ending that won’t let you down. Perfect for a rainy afternoon or a morning at the beach. Well done!
