Terrific love story!
Wes and Thea barely know each other, connected only through his sister, Jane, who is her friend from college. Now Jane is indisposed and needs Wes to take a break from his rodeo career to oversee the family resort during Thea’s annual vacation with her fellow military families.
Thea, widowed three years ago, only knows Wes as the good-time party guy she first met more than a decade before. Wes, however, is still shaken by his father’s death and is trying to find his purpose again.
I loved the instant chemistry these two had, and I especially loved Wes with her children, Liv and Ryan. The way that he was able to sort through his feelings about his dad as he interacted with the kids at the resort was exquisitely written, compelling and insightful on every level.
The author doesn’t take any shortcuts here, with each relationship being forged in fire and tested by real-life situations. Wes and Thea’s HEA was sublime, refreshingly original and heartwarming. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Love is a journey!
What happens when you take a rodeo clown that is always traveling to the next rodeo to protect the bull riders and a widowed social worker with two children?
Weston Harding didn’t know what he was getting into when he volunteered to help with the next retreat for veterans after his sister went into premature labor. Wes never thought that he would ever settle down but after meeting Thea Davis and her children makes him realize there is more.
Wes falling in love with Thea and her kids is a feel-good romance that makes the reader want Wes and Thea to get their happy ever after. I hope August gets his story next!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and Grand Central. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m beginning to see a pattern with Sara Richardson’s books. No matter how busy I am, I seem to find a way to read them in one day. Although I’m a somewhat fast reader, I don’t have to time to just sit and read as often as I’d like. With this author’s books, I tend to let things slide in the real world in order to keep returning to the book world.
My husband was military the first 10 years of our marriage and Ms. Richardson really gets the feel right. Many people understand the hardship military families go through during deployments. Not everyone really understands that often there are bigger issues when the service member comes home, the family re-learning who they all are. I appreciate the care given to some of these issues.
Wes and Thea have instant and amazing chemistry. And even better, Wes has such a natural rapport with Thea’s kids. He never tries stepping into their father’s shoes, but Ryan and Liv both really need the steady, loving, and calm presence he brings to their lives.
There are events in this story where a lot of authors would have had Thea react in a more stereotypical way than she does in this book. I love that the author thought outside the box of a+b=c when it comes to moms, kids, and mom’s reactions to the mistakes kids make. Things that could have been a catalyst for strife between Thea and Wes instead became Wes learning to take a look at his past from a different angle.
As much as I love this author’s stories, I must remember to start the next book I get from her on a day I have nothing else planned.

I read Sara Richardson’s previous book in this series and I really enjoyed coming back to the ranch in this one. Thea and Wes are both living with guilt over the loss of someone. Neither could have changed the circumstances, but both feel responsible and it has kept them both from fully living their lives. The story was sweet and healing. I loved Thea’s kids in the story. The story was well written. It’s not necessary to read the previous book in the series as the story is standalone. I was pulled into the story and could barely put the book down. I received a copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
4.5 stars. I am loving this series so far. This is such a sweet story. I love the characters so much. Wes and Thea are so good for each other. She for him to want to settle down and him to be her second chance at love and hopefully get it right this time. She is a widow but her marriage was not the best. Her two kids Ryan and Olivia have been through a lot and are challenging at times but really are sweet kids. Wes travels a lot and hasn’t ever really had a reason to want to stop. Until he meets Thea and her kids. Didn’t take long for young Ry Ry to latch on to Wessy as a father figure either. They were very good for each other. All the other supporting characters are well though out and helpful to the story. I enjoyed this story very much and loved the journey Wes and Thea take towards their HEA.
One Night with a Cowboy is the second book in Sara Richardson’s Silverado Lake series and I loved the first book, so I was very excited to get my hands on Wes’ story!
Wes Harding is a rodeo cowboy, but not in the way most would think. His job entails running from the bulls after the rider is off to corral them back into the chute. It gets his adrenaline up and he loves the thrill. When his sister, Jane, is forced into the hospital, he comes back to the ranch to help run a retreat that she has scheduled.
Thea Davis is a widowed mother of two. She’s been friends with Jane for a long time and she is bringing the veteran’s support group she’s hosting to the ranch for a retreat. Thea has always been focused on her work and her kids, but following the death of her husband, that has only increased as it is a way to keep her mind occupied. Thea feels a tremendous amount of guilt over how things were left with her husband before his final deployment and subsequent death.
Wes and Thea butted heads almost immediately when she and the kids hit town. Much of that stems from a time in the past when Wes didn’t show up somewhere he had promised Thea he’d be. Plus, she doesn’t have time for men with all she has going on with the kids, but also because she doesn’t want to open herself up to pain again. But the chemistry between the two is undeniable. Is it only a matter of time before a spark turns into a roaring flame? Or will the two of them get in their own way?
My favorite character in the whole book was Thea’s son, Ryan. He was a precocious and amazing little boy who took an immediately liking to Wes. The bond the two of them formed so quickly was heartwarming and it made me smile on so many occasions. What I loved most those was how quickly he stole Wes’ heart.
There was so much to love about this book as both Wes and Thea had many things to overcome in order for them to be together, but it was worth it in the end and you won’t be sorry if you pick up this wonderful book.

One Night with a Cowboy is book 2 in the Silverado Lake series by Sara Richardson and while a standalone it’s the story of another Harding sibling.
Up next is Wes Harding, professional rodeo clown/protector for the bull riders but lately this career doesn’t feel like its all it can be. When he’s asked to come home to help run the retreat when his sister Jane is put on bed rest in the hospital for the rest of her pregnancy. What he doesn’t expect is Thea Davis and her two children to burrow into his heart…
Thea Davis lost her military husband and runs a Vet support group that goes on a retreat at Jane’s (her college roommate and friend) Silverado Lake Ranch. For Thea this keeps her focused so she doesn’t dwell on her grief and guilt.
With sparks flying between Thea and Wes can they find what is truly missing in their lives, build a relationship to last and become the family they both are looking for? Only time will tell…
Thea is a widowed mother of 2 kids who leads a yearly retreat for veterans and their families. She puts everything she has into making it perfect and keeping her children close and helping them to adjust to being without their dad. This year the retreat has a twist, Thea’s old friend has gone into premature labor and can’t be onsite for the retreat and enlists the help of her brother to take her place. Thea has had dealing with Wes long ago and is not thrilled at learning he’s in charge. He’s not been the most trustworthy in her eyes and this is a fact that he’s aware of because it isn’t just her opinon. He feels he’s let his own family down big in the past and is working to make it right. Wes hits it off with Thea’s son and she’s worried that he’ll let him down too, something she works hard to avoid. What she doesn’t count on is him winning her over too and realizing how much she cares for him. Ms. Richardson is a fairly new author for me, as this is just the second book of hers I’ve read. I enjoy her writing style and the care she puts into developing her characters and storylines. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review
A nice, touching contemporary western romance. Wes Harding and Thea Davis are both dealing with guilt and grief and have to get past it to get to their happily ever after. Thea Davis’ husband died while serving his country and she is now raising her ten year old Ryan and thirteen year old Olivia. She planned a retreat at her friend Jane’s Ranch for local veterans and their families. When Jane goes into preterm labor, Jane asks her brother Wes to step in and run the retreat. Wes is rising to the top of his profession as a rodeo clown, and stopping to help his sister may keep him from his next promotion, but his family comes first. I loved the romance between Wes and Thea, but the Bromance between Thea’s son Ryan and Wes put this book over the top for me. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Thea Davis is a single mom with two kids, Olivia (13) and Ryan (10). She lost her husband while he was deployed overseas. Everyone thought the two of them had a perfect marriage. But they were wrong, very wrong. Just before her husband’s final deployment Thea told him she wanted a divorce. That’s where the guilt comes in. Now she leads the annual Project Sanctuary trip to Silverado Ranch in Colorado each year. This is a ten day retreat for military families to relax and enjoy quality family time together. This year Thea shares running the retreat with Wes Harding, Silverado Ranch’s owner’s son. Thea is surprised at how attracted she finds herself to Wes. Not only is Wes attentive to her but he is also great with Olivia and Ryan. Can Thea open her heart and accept love and trust with Wes?
Wes Harding is a rodeo clown. He is good at his job and has just been offered a promotion as head of his team. In rodeo down times he helps out his sister Jane who runs Silverado Ranch. That’s how he happened to be in Colorado for Thea’s Project Sanctuary retreat. Jane had gone into premature labor and was in the hospital on bed rest. Something changed in Wes when he met Thea. She made him feel differently, more at peace with himself. He carried his own load of guilt as he believed he was responsible for his dad’s death. His dad died in a kayak accident at the ranch. Wes was supposed to go kayaking with his dad the morning of his accident but Wes slept in, hungover, and didn’t go meet his dad. Maybe it’s time to forgive himself.
One Night with a Cowboy by Sara Richardson is the second book in her Silverado Lake series. I loved the characters in this story. Thea is uptight, closed-off at the beginning but learns to “let loose” with Wes. Wes has been “running away” since his father’s death, overcome with guilt. The two together heal the guilt and accept their feelings for each other. Thea’s son Ryan is quite a character. His attitude and actions, especially with Wes, added so much to the story. It was entertaining reading about all the fun activities at the ranch. Made me wish I could jump into the book and have fun with them. I really like this author’s voice. Can’t wait for more stories.
We are back in Silverado Lake and this time the story belongs to rodeo cowboy Wes Harding and Thea Davis, a widow with two kids.
Wes holds a great deal of guilt after his father’s death. A death he feels is his fault. As much as he loves his family, he feels he will always be considered the undependable one. But when his little sister Jane has an emergency and needs him to take care of the group arriving at the ranch, he drops everything in order to help her. The group is being lead by Jane’s friend, Thea. A woman who lives an orderly and rigid life and is not happy with Wes and all the changes he’s making to her schedule.
That said, the chemistry between these two is obvious, but both carry a great deal of baggage and guilt from the past . Can they overcome their past? Can they forgive each other? Can they open their hearts and give the present and the future a chance?
The author delivers another touching, at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming story in this series. The children were delightful as were the rest of the secondary characters.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever Publishing.
