Notorious whip Giles Langford is surprised to learn his blacksmith is a girl, shocked to realize she’s the out-of-his-league sister of a duke, and horrified to discover he’s fallen in love with the impossible-to-tame woman anyway. With no money and no title, Giles has nothing to offer but his heart…Felicity Sutton knows poverty firsthand, and she’s never going back. She might miss the old … miss the old smithy, but not the relentless desperation of no home and an empty belly. Of course she’ll accept the stability of a wealthy ton suitor. As for the penniless daredevil she loves, well… They can share one night to remember.

Lady Felicity Sutton grew up poor, she along with her brother (now the Duke of Colehaven) worked in a smithy as children and were often hungry and homeless. She got lucky, her brother inherited a wealthy dukedom and she no longer has to work or worry. But it isn’t enough, she never wants to know poverty again and wants to do something to aid the impoverished children of London. To do that, she must marry and marry well. She had certain requirements for her would be husband and is willing to make personal sacrifices to ensure she marries a man who can provide financial stability and fund her dream of a foundation to help the poorest of children.
Felicity has decided this is the season she will marry and stop tinkering with her brother’s carriages. She has found the perfect suitor, Lord Raymore, the marquess is older, but has a substantial fortune and already fights tirelessly in the House of Lords to help the poor, especially children. He is exactly the right man, so she will show him that she is the perfect woman to be his marchioness. But when she learns her brother is entering his racing carriage in a race, she can’t resist suggesting modifications. Cole agrees and tells her he will not be racing himself, he has hired Giles Langford, a well-know coach smith and racer, known as the Curricle King to race in his stead.
Giles is surprised and impressed by Felicity. She is lovely and talented, but this race is important, winning will help his business and afford him the opportunity to apprentice more of the poverty stricken children in his neighborhood. As they work together, they learn more about each other and the attraction grows, leading to kisses and deeper feelings. Giles knows he is far below Felicity’s station, but can’t stop himself for dreaming of the impossible – a lifetime with her.
Felicity is falling hard for Giles, but she can’t give up on her dream and Giles has neither the money or the political power to help her realize that dream. She is torn and has to decide if her dream is worth the cost of losing the love of a lifetime.
This was well written, fast paced, sweet story, with wonderful leads, warm love scenes and delightful secondary characters. Both Felicity and Giles are likeable and the chemistry between them is undeniable. I enjoyed their journey to HEA and would be happy to recommend the book, but I admit, I did find the ending a bit unbelievable/implausible.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the Publisher.*
A quick, easy and entertaining read. I like good – and especially quick-witted – dialog (word wars) and this book has some, e.g.:
He cleared his throat. “And you are…?”
“Declining to answer,” she replied sweetly.
The blurb is misleading (With no money…) as Giles is well-to-do, having his own business and a comfortable home. Not exactly a pauper. He was my favorite character. But he and Felicity are of very different social strata.
I read a free advance copy and voluntarily post my review.
Lady Felicity Sutton has known poverty and want before her brother inherited his dukedom and she’s determined to marry well so neither she nor her children will ever have to experience hunger and homelessness and so her brother will be proud of her. She’ll sacrifice everything she loves: working in the smithy as well as the handsome, untitled daredevil she truly loves, for a titled, wealthy peer as a husband. Even if she has to give up part of herself, it’ll be worth it to be able to have access to resources that will enable her to help more impoverished children than her brother can on his own.
Well known blacksmith and respected racing driver Giles Langford is surprised to learn that his carriage smith for an upcoming race is a woman, much less the sister of the duke he’s racing for. Giles has no need for a partner; he much prefers to work alone. Imagine his bemusement when he finds he’s fallen in love with his lady mechanic, especially when he knows he meets none of her criteria and he only has himself to offer her.
Felicity was admittedly selfish and it made me want to dislike her, but at the same time, her reasons were so understandable and ultimately unselfish that her desperate insistence on marrying a peer did make sense. Giles is amazed to finally have someone who makes him want a real partnership, but he knows Felicity wants something more than he can give. With Giles, Felicity can truly be herself and she begins to question what her priorities and reasons for her decisions truly are.
I loved that while yes this was a romance about falling in love, it was also about having the courage to be yourself and stand up for what you know is best for you, not what others think you should have. Also, Giles was adorable. Another great installment and I’m sad to see this series almost over.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I wasn’t crazy about this book, but I liked historicals and I enjoy the wicked dukes so I read this one because I am anxious to get to the next one which is darcy’s..But back to this, I didn’t like Felicity, I liked her cause, I liked that she had a purpose but given how she grew up (hence the cause) she probably shouldn’t have been so stuck on finding someone with a title..We have the other main character Giles and honestly he is the one that saved the book for me however I just didn’t feel the romance..
Rcvd and ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) Voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions
Great book by a great author
This charming Regency romance is the fifth and penultimate book in the Wicked Dukes Club series by two of my favorite romance authors, Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke. While the stories interconnect, each book focuses on one couple and can be enjoyed on its own.
I have really been enjoying the characters in this series, and I appreciate that these books are populated with strong, smart female characters with agency. As in the earlier books, both of the main characters in this story are likable and fun to get to know. Some of the supporting characters are also quite charming, and the guest appearance by one of the kittens from earlier in the series made me laugh out loud.
This is a fast-paced light read with an easily resolved conflict, though it does offer a bit of suspense. I found Giles’ acceptance of Felicity absolutely heartwarming and utterly romantic. I recommend this book and the rest of the series to anyone who enjoys light historical romance or is craving a feel-good story.
Note that this book includes one scene of premarital sex, but it’s not too graphic. Other than that one scene, this is a sweet, clean read that I would feel comfortable recommending to my mother or grandmother.
I received an ARC of this book from one of the authors and volunteered to provide an honest review. The ARC I received was well written, appropriately edited, and neatly formatted.
Felicity and Giles may only have one night but their hearts determine a different path. Enjoyed the characters and storyline. Always enjoy this authors tales.
Ebook from net galley and publishers with thanks.Opinions are entirely my own.
More and more I am seeking those authors that can provide the escape back in the day with stories that have a different flavor. This is one author I do like to see what she has to tinkle our fancy with. With this one it is even more of a good one because of the reveal of the blacksmith. Giles and Felicity entertains us with their story that gives us a bunch of elements that fit the time. Humor with the banter between them along with the romance gives us a story that we stick with to see who will succumb to what love has for them regardless on what is on their minds. Along with the humor it will also be warming to the heart with us lapping it all up.
A well written story the fifth book in the Wicked Dukes Club series. Giles Langford falls in love with his blacksmith Felicity Sutton but she wants nothing to do with a poor man she wants a duke. But will her heart and not her head win. I enjoyed reading this book and finding out that question. I know when this series is finished I want to read them all again. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Our experiences are what form our characters, and this is the case with Lady Felicity. Having grown up poor and struggling to make ends meet, when landed with a title she has trouble fitting in. Oh, on the outside she’s the perfect lady. But what happens in the inside? Determined to make a good marriage in order to please her brother the Duke and be able to care for those less fortunate, she has suppressed her inner yearnings. But then she meets Giles, a man completely unsuitable for her plans, with the exception of her heart. Will she go ahead with her “rational” plans or will her heart win above society’s dictations and duty?
I loved every book in the Wicked Dukes Club series so far and of course “One night to remember” was not an exception. Well written, with engaging characters, easy and quick to read, this was a heartwarming historical romance with a bit of steam. I highly recommend the whole series!
Oh. My. God. Felicity and Giles romance in Erica Ridley’s One Night to Remember (Wicked Dukes Club Book 5) is so so (so) perfect. Swoon-worthy in many ways, deliciously written and tremendous fun. See the publisher’s blurb for a summary as I’m not going to risk spoiling anything. As for me, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Felicity may be a titled Lady, sister of a Duke, but she’s also the Master of his Carriages, and is her own smithy. She has known hunger, poverty, and lack of love being an orphan. But she has always had the care and protection of her older brother. The duke spurned the smith shop, which meant such cold hard times of child labor, after inheriting his title. He also forbid her to dress as Felix as she had when she pretended to be his younger brother or for anyone to know she worked in his carriage house for pure joy. Then when the duke’s wife forbids him to race, he has the famous smith Giles Langford, the Curricle King, come to his carriage house, meet his sister, and agree to rules: partner on an equal basis with his sister on the QT and race his curricle in a fortnight. Meanwhile, she has promised her brother she will be engaged by before the end of the season. This book has great dialog and a real quandry for Felecity as she falls in love with Giles, who can never help her in the House of Lords, or provide for the Foundation she has sworn to provide for the poor and homeless cheldren of London the way Lord Raymore can. Real danger and adventure with a very happy ending!! I volunteered this review from an ARC.
One Night to Remember is the fifth book in the Wicked Dukes Club series. Lady Felicity Sutton is on a mission to find herself a husband. After 6 seasons she has decided that this is her year. Her main requirements are that he must be titled, wealthy and willing to support her charitable dreams of helping the waifs and strays of London. As the only sister of the Duke of Colehaven you wouldn’t think she would have much difficulty finding any number of suitable candidates but at the grand old age of 24 has she left it too late?
Giles Langford is feted throughout London as the curricle King and is also the owner of the premier smithy in London mainly thanks to the patronage of Colehaven so when he is commissioned by him to represent him in a race he doesn’t say no. When he first meets Felicity at the Duke’s carriage house he mistakes her for a stable lass but soon comes to respect her knowledge of carriage mechanics and eventually fall in love with her. But nothing can come of it. After all what would a blacksmith have to offer a Lady even though when you strip away the title and wealth, they have the same values and aspirations in common?
I loved the role reversal in this book. For once it’s not the Hero marrying “beneath his station” so to speak. Felicity is torn between pleasing her brother while at the same time also fearing going back to the poverty of her childhood or following her heart and choosing the man who will make her happy. Like with the rest of the books in this series, there is no angst or drama in One Night to Remember. Indeed this is one of those books that you know will leave you with a warm glow and smile on your face when you reach the end.
This is a very quick yet highly entertaining, emotional, engaging and action packed journey filled with uncertainty, unusual circumstance and passion…. a very enjoyable read from beginning to end. Loving this series and looking forward to the next adventure.
Looking for an original page turning story? Well you found it in One Nigh to Remember! I loved it. I wished I was there. Erica Ridley made you feel like you where apart of the story. I envisioned the carts. Felt the wind on my face! It was refreshing to be out of the balls for a bit!
I was given a free copy for my honest opinion.
Giles Langford is know as the Curricle King and charmer of Ladies he is both a mechanic and a driver of curricles and when the Duke of Colehaven ask him to drive his curricle in a upcoming race he is thrilled with the idea it will help him get the money he needs to help the Youth on the streets. But he soon realizes that his new blacksmith and helper is non other then the Dukes very on sister Felicity Sutton she’s intelligent and attractive but he needs to keep his eye on the prize instead of a young women well above his station.
Felicity Sutton has come from nothing after she and her brother Cole lost there parents they spent time on the streets then by chance her brother inherited a Dukedom and now she would do anything to make the lives of children just like her suffer less all she must do is marry well and she can start her charity fund. But when her brother tells her of and upcoming race and he has hired a driver she tells him that she has some ideas to make his curricle faster her brother thinks its a good idea if she works with Giles so that they can win. She is very attracted to Giles and he to her but even though they have similar goals he is not the wealthy husband she needs but one night together wont hurt will it. Will Felicity choose love and passion or a marriage of convenience. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I love all of Erica’s books. I get excited whenever she has a new one available.
*I received a free copy of One Night to Remember via NetGalley. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
One Night to Remember just might be my favorite by Erica Ridley! I loved Lady Felicity – her unconventional childhood made her an even more unconventional lady. And you all know how I love everything that’s a little bit off from the norm.
Giles was ‘just’ a smithy, but he was a true gentleman at heart. And he was also fairly unconventional and open minded for the times.
Felicity and Giles made One Night to Remember a fantastic story – and I kind of wish there would be another story of their adventures – because they both earned a place in my heart.
I Love reading Books by Erica Ridley, albeit this Book didn’t totally fulfill my mind or touch me the way her Stories normally do.
Giles & Felicity’s Characters were Good, but the Story was not. Their Story started off Good but took a dive at the end.
There was no really leading through their Relationship. It went from meeting one another to not a full 2 weeks of being with each other. The Love making scene was very short & had no heat or passion coming out from the Characters.
I was really disappointed.
Let’s start by talking about the cover. It’s amazing. I really liked the couple.
About the plot, we usually find the poor girl who needs to marry well to save the family from ruin; or the girl of good family, rich, who gets richer still marrying some lord.
In this case here, the two have a past full of histories.
Felicity is the sister of a duke, but she already knew what poverty is and aims to help other people.
Giles has no title but is a self made millionaire.
They meet because of a job as a blacksmith!!
Yes, that’s exactly what you read.
It’s an intriguing and entertaining couple.
You should know them.
