Wonderful, Delightful & Romantic
This Story was Absolutely Delightful. Penelope & Hugh meet again under an abduction gone wrong. Penelope is trying to avoid marriage to an old lecher old enough to be a grandfather with rancid breath & he is always trying to grab at her. Her parents don’t care & they only want social advancement in the ton.
Hugh is a Vicar at a church in St. Giles & is Absolutely sweet. He sees how cruel one can be to force one to marry a decrepit older man & is disturbed by it.
This is the last book in the “Wicked Dukes Club” and it’s another enjoyable read. Rector Hugh Tarleton is a kind and caring man who tries to help those less fortunate. When he rescues Miss Penelope Wakefield from an apparent kidnapping, he is drawn to the young woman. As she reveals why she was in a bad neighborhood, Hugh begins to understand her plight. Throughout their night together, Hugh cannot deny his growing feelings for Penelope. Can he rescue her one last time?
Ms. Burke has written another story with such likable characters. As a rector, Hugh holds himself to a higher standard and I was happy to see this didn’t change throughout the book. This is a quick read. I read it in one sitting and loved how the HEA ending came about for Hugh and Penelope.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.
Lady Penelope is willing to anything to get out of marrying the horrible man her parents chose for her. Even fake a kidnapping. In the process of this, she meets Hugh the local clergyman and he agrees to help her hide for the night and then take her home the next morning, helping ruin her in the eyes of society and making her unmarriageable.
I loved Penelope from chapter one. Penelope is so strong and brave to do whatever she has to get out of a marriage with a man she hates. I love how kind and witty Penelope is. Hugh was such an amazing hero. His compassionate nature and desire to help everyone made me fall in love with him. Penelope and Hugh have such great chemistry. My favorite parts are what happened in the hotel room when he was hiding her and the first kiss scene. I was excited to finally see a clergyman as a hero in a regency romance novel that isn’t religious. I have always wanted more clergyman heroes in my regency books because it was a common profession of the time and it seems like it is such a neglected romance novel idea. I loved this book and if you love regency romance I highly recommend it.

*Thanks to Darcy Burke and Netgalley for a copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.*
I can’t believe that it took me so long to read this book, huh I had requested it and then had so many books that could not find the time, and I regret it, I enjoyed as I tend to always do with Darcy’s books. So when I read the blurb I was a little way, you know someone from the rectory but then I said to myself this is Darcy and I can’t imagine it being something that I would not like and I was right. I loved Hugh (Mr. Tarleton), Hugh came to Lady Penelope’s rescue when she was about to be kidnapped and that began their love affair. No it wasn’t one of the insta love, but as they spend time together out of necessity they began to know each other and fall in love…ahh I was in love myself..Lady Penelope was in desperate need of a plan to avoid marrying the old man her parents had picked out for her and she thinks this had made a friend to who will assist her but finds out that is not the case, luckily for her that while she was about to be abducted, Hugh comes to her rescue in more than she could have possibly wanted..Grab a copy and Enjoy! I am going to look for the next one from Ms. Burke.

Lady Penelope Wakefield is the daughter of a powerful lord who’s using her as a political barter in an upcoming marriage to a disgusting old letch. She has been crafting a strategy to avoid the marriage and finally her chance has come, only her plans go awry, as plans sometimes do.
Luckily, a parish rector, Hugh, happens along just in time as Penelope is in need of rescue, and it is then that the two meet for the first time. Hugh Tarleton is no timid man of the cloth, he’s the most handsome man she’s ever seen, and he’s in possession of a number of other fine qualities as well. He’s also willing to assist her in her ploy to avoid an unwanted marriage.
This is a delightful story, with a really lovely romance. It has a few twists, witty and colorful characters, and all in all is bound to leave the reader with a smile. I recommend this and the other stand alone books in this series as they’ve all been vastly entertaining.
This was a very sweet ending to a fun series. I enjoyed Hugh and Pen’s adventure. Hugh is my favorite type of hero, the celibate kind. Not a rake or a rogue, just a nice, kind man. And poor Pen! Hugh was just the hero she needed. I enjoyed this novella. The writing is good and there is nice character development for a short format. I don’t love novellas but that’s generally because I would like to spend more time with the characters. This series worked well because of the reoccurring characters so you get the chance to meet them in the previous books before they became the H/h of the next book.
I don’t know how Darcy does it but she takes an impossible to resolve storyline, the Rector and the Marquess’ daughter, and makes it work. I thought it was headed for a train wreck but I had faith in Darcy. She worked the impossible and they got their HEA! I have really enjoyed these stories revolving around The Wicked Duke’s Club. It was like a historical version of the old TV series Cheers.
Lady Penelope Wakefield is desperate to escape the marriage her parents are forcing on her. The Earl Findon was the father of Pen’s former betrothed. When he died Findon decided to marry her instead and beget another heir. He was old enough to be her grandfather and leterous but her father wanted control of Findon’s boroughs and her mother wanted he daughter to be a countess to improve her social standing. When Maisie, a girl from Hugh Tarleton’s church befriends her offering to help her get “kidnapped” and get away Penelope jumps at the chance. Unfortunately Pen trusted the wrong person and Maisie skipped town with Pen’s money and set her friends Robert & Joseph to kidnap her for real. Rector Hugh witnesses the abduction and interferes, sending the boys off and determines to return her home in the morning. They end up spending a torturous and tantalizing night together at an inn in the rookery of St. Giles. Upon her return home Pen and Hugh find out how much they will risk to be together.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One Night of Temptation by Darcy Burke is the sixth book in the Wicked Dukes Club by Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley and definitely worth reading. You will love this series if you love great historical romances. I really enjoyed this series!
Lady Penelope Wakefield will do anything in order to not marry the man that her parents have decided would make a perfect match for her, including damaging her reputation.
Rector Hugh Tarleton takes it upon himself to protect Lady Penelope when he discovers she has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom in the neighborhood where he cares for his congregation, but can they both get out of this situation without surrendering to their mutual desires and with both of their reputations still intact.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
This was a delightful story with plenty of angst, a little danger and plenty of romance to satisfy any reader that loves this genre. This is my first time reading a story by Darcy Burke and I must say that I was really impressed by her ability to tell a story that not only captives your imagination, it gives you all the thrills and excitement you crave from this kind of story. The plot was most interesting to me as it was something i’d never come across before in historical romance, a rich young lady that falls in love with a rector was a refreshing change to the usual hero of being a Duke or a Rake.
Penelope and Hugh had such great chemistry between them that it made them so believable as a couple, and to fall in love so fast with each other. I really liked both of their characters and they way they found each other was such an exciting twist in the story.
This was a whirlwind romance story that I enjoyed very much and will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
It’s my first read by the author and because I’ve seen her name around a lot through the social media i wanted to give it a try.
A beautiful romantic love story with two main characters very loveable and although it didn’t seem to me that they grow too much throughout the book, they are characters that can be reliable and interesting in a way of being something different for the historical romance genre.
Trying to avoid her marriage of convenience, Penelope has a plan to escape but everything goes wrong and she finds herself spending time with the rector Huge. The connection between them was there, the banter was interesting but i didn’t quite felt the sparks.
Overall was an enjoyable read that i will recommend to my historical romance book friends.
Another amazing read by Darcy Burke! The heroin is quite a rebell and doesn’t fit into the society she is predestined to be.
Penelope Wakefield, the daughter of marquess Bramber, is lovely, interesting person who wants nothing else than escape from her current life. When she finally manages to flee she happens to find herself in a very unfortunate situation. After Rector Hugh Tarleton comes to her aid they spend one night filled with talking and both of them seem to found the other one’s soul mate. She falls instantly in love with him. Except, she is betrothed to someone else’s. Does she want to? Absolutely not, but she doesn’t have a choice, or does she though?
I laughed quite a lot and honestly have to say I immensely enjoyed this tale.
For anyone who loves short entertaining, historical book it’s the right choice.
Just the absolute best story. Everything I like to read about and more. Such a great story I will read again and again. A keeper!!
Caught up in a situation of her own making, Lady Penelope discovers that even the best-laid plans can go awry. Having devised a way of getting out of a marriage dictated to her by her overbearing father, Penelope discovers that the friend who was going to help her has instead betrayed her in a despicable way. Discovering Penelope in the rookery of London, Rector Hugh Tarleton is horrified by the actions of his parishioners and sets about not only protecting Penelope but also assisting her in finding a way to escape marriage to the man old enough to be her father. The story is lighthearted and different to what expects from a Regency romance but nevertheless kept my interest the whole way through. I enjoyed meeting up with the members of The Wicked Duke once again, and their involvement in bringing Hugh and Penelope together. Penelope’s desire to reach out to people matches Hugh’s, and he proves himself to be a charming hero and very much a man with the same thoughts and desires of those around him. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
One Night of Temptation is the 6th (and final?) book in the Wicked Dukes Club which is written by Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke. The later is the one who wrote this book and she did a good job. It was not my favorite in the series, because everything happened so fast (I think most of the story takes place in 24 hours) and I would have liked a slower pace. Fast pace or not, I enjoyed reading Penelope and Hugh’s romance. There was an instant connection between these two and I liked how protective he was of her. Of course, he did things that a man of his profession shouldn’t do, but I am willing to forgive that since this is a novella. It was weird to have a rector for a hero, but at least we know that Penelope will marry for love and that’s all one would want for the heroine of the book. Τhis book might not be the best in the series, but still, it was good enough and I would recommend it.
We have a Lady in need of rescuing and a handsom rector that will be there and with a little help from the Wicked Dukes Club he mite be able to do that.
Lady Penelope longs for a love match what she gets is her greedy father the Marquess of Bramber choice her deceased betrothed brother hes old and disgusting and the things his debauchery have led too but do her parents care about this know there in it for there own gain. After realizing she will have to find away out of her predicament she devises a plan she will ditch her chaperone and flee to St. Giles and convince someone to fake kidnap her. Well Pen’s plane backfires she really gets kidnapped and if not for a sweet and handsome rector she mite have ended up much worse.
Rector Hugh Tarleton the 3rd son of Viscount loves his job as Rector he always finds ways of helping those in need and when he sees a young women in need he goes to the rescue. After he help’s Penelope and here’s her story he wants to help but she wont agree to the first plan so they retire to and Inn for the night getting to know one another there having to stay one step ahead of the runner’s they share a kiss and Hugh returns her to her parents hoping her plan will work and she can pretend to be compromised. But instead she is still betrothed Hugh will have to get help from his friend’s at The Wicked Dukes Club to save the women he loves and wants to marry.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Darcy has done something I’ve not seen before and made the hero a rector and she now has me wanting more! A simple act of fate brought Huge to her rescue and linked their hearts to each other. Every second they are together the heat builds and just when you think they will cave something interrupts them. You are left waiting with bated breath many times for different reasons.
When you put multiple members of the Wicked Duke together you know they are going to come up with a wild plan. The man her father wanted her to marry made my skin crawl. That whole scene at the church had me on pins and needles. I have to applaud the bishop for how he reacted to everything because it was not what i expected.
Penelope is nothing like her parents and the more she is with Hugh, the more her true self comes through. I loved her from the start with how brave and bold she was to escape that marriage. She knew exactly what her heart wanted.
Hugh is nothing like you expect him to be and you will love him the minute he winks. He wants to help others and isn’t like most men in many ways. I loved how he thought about things bringing them together and the control he had over himself.
The Wicked Duke members are always there for each other. This was my favorite in the series!
Copy provided for an honest and voluntary review.
Lady Penelope Whitefield decides that she needs to be kidnapped so that she wouldn’t have to marry the Earl of Findon who was old enough to be her grandfather. She made a deal with Maisie and the rookery of St. Giles for the fake kidnapping. When she got to where she was to meet Maisie she was really kidnapped two men threw a bag over her head and was taking her deeper into the rookery when the rector of St. Giles church saw them and stopped the kidnapping his name was Hugh Tarleton. He took her to an end called the Craven Cock so that they could set and talk at a table he ordered them lager which she found bitter. She told him why she had made the deal with Maisie who had betrayed her to the man who had really kidnapped her he said he would help her and rented two rooms at the end stating that she was a widow with the family and the rectory was being worked on. To find what happens who she marries whether she’s really kidnapped and all the other trials and tribulations she goes through you have to read the book. It’s a very good book…
A very quick yet highly entertaining, emotional, fun and witty adventure filled with scandal, romance, danger and undeniable passion .. was a thrilling read from beginning to end and I enjoyed every heart pounding moment. Great reading!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One Night Of Temptation, by Darcy Burke, is the last story in the Wicked Dukes series. Available at booksellers and on-line on 6-25-19, even though it’s part of a series it works very well as a stand alone. I think you’ll like the characters enough to backtrack to the beginning. This series was written by Ms Burke and Erica Ridley, 3 books each, intertwining characters must have been brain taxing, but they pulled it off.
Our female lead is Lady Penelope Wakefield, daughter of a marquess, expected to do what she’s told and marry an old man, grandpa age & not nice. Pen hatches a plot to get away with a “friend”, who double crosses her. Mr. Hugh Tarleton, parish rector in St Giles, saves the day just like a knight of old. He’s got to be one of the most laid-back, sweet, helpful men I’ve read in a long time. He may be a rector but he has values that all people should aspire to, like The Golden Rules.
When Hugh hears Pens story he agrees to shelter her for 1 night, then she goes home. 1 night is not going to be enough, forever sounds more like it. Pen is a nice, thoughtful, lady who is ecstatic to find love, she didn’t think she’d ever have that option. They’re perfect for each other. Loyal, empathic, helpful, loving people who’ll be terrific as a team and you just know the parish is in good hands. No rogues, no tiresome balls or visiting hours. This book is all about people, feelings, determination and love. I liked that. Happy reading.

One Night of Temptation
Wicked Dukes Club book 6
by Darcy Burke
This brings the end of the Wicked Dukes Club series by two amazing and very talented authors! A not to be missed final instalment, an easy read that’s witty with amazing dialogue and even more likeable characters. The storyline flowed well and captured the readers interest.
Lady Penelope and Mr. Tarleton were perfect together, plenty of chemistry, intrigue that I’m sad to see the end of the Wicked Dukes! I highly recommend the series well written and entertaining. Can’t wait to read the next amazing read by Darcy Burke!
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
