Another hit by Darcy Burke. The second Wicked Duke has gotten hitched! Val and Isabelle reunite after 10 years apart. The story is filled with the author’s typical quick wit and conversations. The characters are endearing and fun. We have fierce women and spry elders. This is a hit series.
Valentine Fairfax, the Duke of Eastleigh is allowing a friend and his family to stay with him until their town house is ready for them. He doesn’t expect to run into an old friend from when he was at Oxford .
Mrs Isabelle Cortland has been working as a governess since her husband died. She loves the girls she has been teaching but their mother is jealous of the relationship. When they need to stay at the Duke of Eastleigh’s home she knows things could get complicated.
This is a lovely second chance romance. Our characters are socially incompatible but have a history together. Both have bad marriages behind them and are nervous about the future. The wicked dukes are fun and unusual characters and their families are very entertaining.
This is part of a series but each book can be read alone.
I loved it.
Darcy Burke never ceases to amaze me with the wonderful stories that she writes! I’m really enjoying the Wicked Dukes Club series so far.
Valentine Fairfax, the Duke of Eastleigh, had one night of passion with Isabelle Cortland over 10 years ago and hasn’t seen her since. Imagine his surprise when she ends up at his home, as governess to his friend’s daughters!! Both now widowed after having had unhappy marriages, they discover the attraction is still there but Val doesn’t want to remarry and Isabelle doesn’t want to lose her independence. It may all be out of their hands, though, if his grandmother and sister have anything to say about it!!! I loved the humor throughout the story, it made it such a delight to read.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
One Night of Surrender is book 2 in the Wicked Dukes Club series by Darcy Burke. I liked this book, but it wasn’t as good as the first one in this series. Still Burke is one of my favorite authors and I am usually not disappointed with her stories. I felt there was as a lack of chemistry between the hero and heroine. I did enjoy the humor in the book and I liked the character of Isabelle Cortland. She is sweet and strong at the same time. One of my very favorite characters is Viola the hero’s sister. She is a hoot. Looking forward to the next book.
Darcy Burke dreams up some of the best heroes and heroines. They charm as much as they frustrate, yet it’s the skill in which she exposes their imperfections, that make them captivating to read. One Night of Surrender is a passionate tale. Valentine and Isa are two ships passing in the night until fate throws them a lifeline. Will they survive the dark waters ahead or wind up shipwrecked on Heartbreak Island? Burke packs a mountain of turbulence into a mesmerizing love story.
One evening ten years before, a young man named Valentine , ‘Val’, and a girl named Isabelle consummated their love for each other. But a future together wasn’t in the cards, as he was to become a duke, and she was the daughter of a school master. Their worlds were not conducive to their possible union.
After a decade has passed, and both have experienced their own unique losses, the two are thrown together by fate. She is the governess of an acquaintance of Val’s, and her employer, her young charges and she are guests in his home.
Val really should just step back and let the past remain just where it is, but how can he when she is the one woman he has never been able to erase from his mind? Isabelle has never forgotten Val, nor regretted their union, but she has an agenda, and a liaison with him now could throw those plans into jeopardy.
There are several conflicts and subtle twists in this plot that make it interesting and colorful. The heat between the two main characters is palpable and the additional characters are colorful and often humorous. I read this from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it! I highly recommend it.
