Wicked Dukes Club book 4

What a story!!!!! Viola was to die for she rocked being Tavistock! She beat them at their own game, she definitely wasn’t a simpering miss waiting on the sidelines. No not Viola she mingles with the best of them at the Wicked Dukes and gets all the best gossip, until MP Jack Barrett figures her out. Just when she’s on the best story of her life but she’s more than surprised when he offers to help her.
This was an engrossing read that had danger, intrigue, plenty of witty dialogue and two people not looking for love but it’s exactly what they needed! Can’t wait to read the next story in this series. Very well done and I highly recommend.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
A pleasure to read with great character and storyline development that kept me totally captivated until the turn of the very last page. A must read.
My free opinion. Thanks.
Samuel Davis Tavistock is a reporter for Ladies Gazette and stumbles onto a big potential story. Problem is Tavistock is actually Lady Violet Fairfax, sister to Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh. She jilted her groom 14 years ago at the altar and she’s been outside of society ever since. She loves to write and the only way she can do it is as a male so Tavistock was invented. She visits her brother’s bar, The Wicked Duke, picking up bits of information to write about. She stumbles onto a rumor and decides to dig into it to see if it’s true. When she approaches the Brooke’s mens club MP Jack Barrett recognizes her in her disguise and stops her. He’s the first to see through Tavistock to see Violet. She comes clean and he agrees to help her with the investigation to keep her safe. He’s a liberal MP so the story is of interest to him and to the country. It seems there might be an MP who helped the radicals attack the Prince Regent and he needs to be ferreted out.
This is a fascinating tale of intrigue, puzzles and who-done-its all wrapped up in sexual tension. I am forever amazed at Darcy’s research and talent for telling intricate stories. This one set in the time of England’s suspension of Habeas Corpus and The Seditious Meetings Law under The Prince Regent. I just finished May McGoldrick’s Highland Crown also set in this time period and it gives another perspective of this conflicted time period in England’s history.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have read the first four books of this series and I love all of them. I love how the stories intertwine. The characters are so full of passion. The plots move at such a brisk pace. I love each story which could be read as a stand alone. They are just so much better read as a series.
This was scrumptious. Viola a very independent woman who dresses as a man to get stories for a woman’s newspaper meets her match when confronted by Jack. They start to investigate together and Jack gets embroiled as an informant. The heat is on as they fight for his innocence and share kisses in closets. Loved these two. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Good plot about a second chance at love, with a mystery to solve as a bonus. Great characters. I received an ARC of this book.
Awesome Regency romance with intrigue and suspense. Lady Viola is thought to be inadequate to marry due to a scandal years ago. Therefore, she has taken up a cause she feels is important. Jack is an MP for the local area and has no plans for marriage then he runs into a “uniquely” dressed Viola. The characters were outstanding as was the story-line that was filled with humor and strong family ties. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Burke.
ONE ELECTRIFYING TREAT!!!
OMG! Talk about sitting on pins and needles. A whirling, twirling vortex of unforseen incidents and stupendous mishaps that keep you flipping page after page. A skillfully woven storyline with an thrilling plot that rocks this jewel from the start. Darcy really brought her A-game for this tough and rough tumble, on point realism that spins so intense, bursting with emotions bringing this gripping tale to life perfectly. The tension spirials, the danger palpable and the suspense is soring. Struggling through all the trials and tribulations forcing decisions and jumping hurdles. Twists and turns abound, along with a few bumps and bruises bring this baby together flawlessly. The characters are authentic, vivacious and so realistic with depth and qualities its easy to get swept away. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it paints a wonderful backdrop that gives the illusion your right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job Darcy, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
A truly wonderful addition to this amazing series that brings forth a character from the first stories. A strong heroine who goes out and grabs what she wants and makes it happen even though society would be against her! Viola wrote a column for the Lady’s Gazette, but she dresses as a man in order to do her job. You see it was really men who ran almost everything including the newspaper! So she plays her role and goes to the Wicked Duke, a pub owned by her brother and others and gathers information. Thinking she is not recognized and on the story of a lifetime, she is stopped by MP Jack Barrett. He knows she is the sister of the Duke of Eastleigh and is amazed at what she is doing! He decides to help her on her quest for a very dangerous story if leaked and assumes the role of protector.
Political intrigue, danger and a developing romance bring this story on a journey that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen. Delightful, humorous and the right amount of emotion made this tale just perfect! Cannot wait to read the next one!
I was thoroughly enchanted with Darcy Burke’s One Night of Scandal, the fourth book in the Wicked Dukes Club, alternately authored in the series with Erica Ridley. Viola Fairfax, the younger sister of Val, the Duke of Eastleigh, has been masquerading as a journalist for a women’s publication, with the nom de plume of Tavistock. Viola is frustrated that as a woman she isn’t accepted as a true journalist and must resort to the subterfuge. To gain or hear gossip or information to use for stories in her publication, she enjoys visiting the Wicked Earl tavern. Besides her brother, no one recognizes who she really is except Jack Barrett, a member of parliament and patron of the Wicked Duke. Viola overhears a conversation which she shares with Jack. He agrees to help her with her research. Neither Jack nor Viola have intentions to marry, but the more they work together, the more they are attracted to one another.
I felt that Jack and Viola were mutually likable characters with lots of great dialogue between them with just the right amount of humor and seriousness. Note, there is one sweet, steamy, consensual encounter between Jack and Viola. The intrigue going on in the story was enlivened by the fact that Darcy Burke incorporated some actual political events and issues prevalent during that era. For me, this was refreshing and rare in a Regency romance. Though this book is part of a series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone work. I voluntarily read an ARC of this work and my review is based upon my opinions of what I read.
Viola hangs up her costume as Tavistock and takes a husband. Viola swore she wouldn’t marry but is unable to resist the charms of her brother’s friend Jack. This series just keeps hitting high notes as another strong female takes a worthy gentleman off the marriage mart.
Was an amazing book. There were a lot of twist and turns. I fall in love with the characters in the story. Viola is a strong and independent woman who writes for a popular women’s newspaper under a man’s name. Jack is a MP with a bright future. Their path cross in front of Brook’s a private gentlemen’s club when Viola is dressed as a man tries to sneak in and Jack decides to appoints himself as her protector.
Enjoyed reading this book, such independent woman, one member of parliament and one aspiring journalist …or not. They all don’t have a wish for marriage, but love is unpredictable…or not.
I liked the slight humor, graduation of the story, political intrigue and plot in the investigation lead by Mr.Tavistok…or not. That same plot will bring two people in same direction, toward the truth, close to one another…close to love. Will they find all of the above? Exceptional characters will fight for those things, will overcame all rules of society to became what they want.
Recommendation for a very entertaining few hours.
In this book we have a young woman who wants to be accepted as an equal. I found her to be strong, a bit of a hot-head, with a beautiful heart. As for Jack; a strong, handsome and wants to keep Viola safe. I loved him that he wanted to help her with her search even when common sense told him not to. It was so fun to read how much they tried to ignore all the growing feelings they had but ended up falling into each others arms.
Each couple so far has brought something new to the table and I’m loving every single off them. This series is really amazing and I can’t wait for the next book to arrive.

ONE NIGHT OF SCANDAL by Darcy Burke is book 4 in the Wicked Dukes Club Series. This is the story of Viola Fairfax and Jack Barrett. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Viola has a column in a women’s magazine but when she learns of a brewing scandal she goes looking for the story to take her to a more series level in her writing. Viola at first thinks Jack may be a part of it but he comes forward to help her which puts them working real close together which leads to some strong feelings.
I love this series. I really enjoyed reading about Jack and Viola. They are part of a rare breed of heroes. Jack isn’t a dictatorial alpha with a tragic backstory. He loves his father and has a good relationship with him. He’s working hard to better the lives of his fellow men and women. Viola isn’t a manipulative female prepared to do whatever she wants because she wants it heedless of anyone’s safety. She’s well aware of her limitations and willing to accept help and advice when it’s offered. I wasn’t prepared for the in-depth look at radical political activism of the era. Some others have suggested that this added to the realism of the story, but for me it pulled me out of that place where our leading couple were falling for each other. I liked the sense of intrigue that pulled Jack and Viola together. But the political propaganda felt a little “preachy”, and I could have done without that.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through NetGalley.
Charming Love Story with some Scandal
Jack Barrett is an MP and looking to further his political career. He is not looking for love or a wife. He’s known that Lady Viola dresses as a man to enter forbidden domains for a while now. When she tries to enter Brook’s he saves her from the error and takes on a protector role. Lady Viola Fairfax dresses as a man to listen in on conversations at her brother’s Wicked Dukes Club. She’s a writer for a women’s publication that only employs men.
Viola is interested in a political rumor and decides to pursue it for the story. Jack becomes involved first as her protector and second because he is now being accused and wants to clear his name.
This storyline has great chemistry, political intrigue, and a heartwarming love. A great plot with underhanded political deviousness but is completed with loving happily ever after. This is the first book I’ve read in the series. I plan on reading the ones I’ve missed and I am also looking forward to the ones ahead.
Mr Jack Barrett is an MP, as his father and grandfather before him were. It’s not an easy time in British politics. Not everyone agree with the way “Prinny” behaves and there has been trouble on the streets.
Lady Viola Fairfax is the sister of a Duke. She caused a scandal years before by crying off on her wedding. Now she also masquerades as a man who writes a column in a ladies periodical.
This is a lovely mischievous historical romance. The characters are so much fun. There is political intrigue and a little danger. It is part of a series where you might have met some of the characters before, but you can easily read it on it’s own.
Thoroughly enjoyable story, I loved it.
This is the fourth book in the series “Wicked Dukes Club” and it was just as amazing as the previous three books.
This wonderful story is about Viola who sometimes dresses as a man and is a journalist. Jack Barrett is an MP and has high political goals and no time to look for a wife. Jack sees through Viola men’s disguise and decides to help and protect her in her investigations. From there the story of Viola and Jack takes off.
This book can be read alone, but it is nice to read them in order because I feel like I know the characters a little better, especially Viola. You will enjoy this book and the series. I can not wait for the next two books.
I loved this book, it is a little different from the first three as Jack Barrett is Barrister, and MP
He catches the Duke of Eastleigh’s sister sneaking into a private gentlemen’s club. If you have read the first books in this series you meet Lady Viola Fairfax in”One Night of Surrender”.
She lives two life’s, one as the Granddaughter of the Dowager Duchess of Eastleigh. Her brother is the Duke of Eastleigh and part owner of the Wicked Dukes Tavern.
She also has been dressing up as one Mr. Travistock to write for a women’s magazine. She goes into places woman would never be allowed and writes about what happen there. Jack figured out he was actually a girl a few years back. After they met and Viola finds out, they join forces to solve a rumor about MP’s being part of a plot to hurt the Prince.
As they work together they learn they have lot’s in common. As both do not want to marry, or leave
the life’s and interest they have it is a fun, wild read to see how it all works out. Do they solve the mystery, or get caught. How do they work out the attraction both feel.
Be sure and get a copy so you can find out, I know you will enjoy it too.
I received a ARC from Net Galley and the review is my own….
