Great start to a new series Wicked Duke’s Club. Love both the authors so always looked like it could be good. The Wicked Duke is a male drinking establishment where the main male characters meet in a less formal atmosphere than a Gentleman’s club
In it we meet Cole, the ambitious Duke of Colehaven who sits on several committees in the House of Lords and wants to make the country a fairer place for all. Cole is known for not losing a bet for 10 years, so accepts a challenge from his friend Thaddeus Middleton, that he, Cole can get Thaddeus’s unconventional ward married by the end of the season, but not to himself.
Diana, brought up by her family to think for herself, and who loves to fix things and mathematics, finds herself living with her cousin after her parents die. She wants to do something useful with her life, so dresses to blend in with the décor at all the parties she attends, she thinks (incorrectly) her cousin wants her to get married so he’s freed from his duty to her, so she sneaks off to act as her alter ego Mrs. Peabody, an overworked ‘inspections assistant’ to a litigious barrister, checking that dishonest tradesmen aren’t cheating their customers, an invented job.
When Cole first meets Diana she is dressed as a maid, so when he later sees her dressed like an assistant he sees through her disguise, and finds out about her alter-ego. As her ‘role’ as an assistant is also the subject of one of his committee’s laws, Cole finds himself getting more involved with Diana and her brilliant mind, and has to decide whether he should get involved with, or does he stick to the wager?
A promising start to Ridley and Burke’s new Wicked Dukes series, One Night for Seduction had everything that I wanted, from spunky heroine to swoony Duke and a colorful cast of characters surrounding them.
I loved the idea of a vigilante mathematician going about thwarting unscrupulous shopkeepers. It was so much more amusing to imagine Diana and her disguises. Colehaven was a swoony, down to earth gentleman that was as intelligent as he was handsome, to hear Diana tell it anyway.
Diana and Colehaven’s romance was a whirlwind. Watching them come to terms with having different paths to the same goal was a bit painful as you would think two brilliant minds could come to a compromise but I enjoyed the conflict all the same. The chemistry was spot on between our lovers. Readers that prefer their love scenes on the clean side, this was a fade to black.
I wish we had a few stories to back up the nickname of “Wicked Dukes” because I just didn’t get that mischievous feel from Colehaven. He felt more like a golden retriever, which was wonderful and I adored him. A mischievous streak is clearly in there somewhere because the banter was playful and a delight to read.
This proved to be a romantic, quick read that I would have finished in one sitting if I didn’t have a toddler to chase. I’m looking forward to the rest of this series!
**I received an advanced copy for review from the Author / NetGalley; all opinions are my own.
The thrill of Erica Ridley is that she is never boring. The lure of her characters is that loving them is never an easy feat, but a worthwhile experience. One Night for Seduction is the beginning of the end for two hostile hearts. Diana and Cole are as complicated as they are intriguing. The wallflower nobody dares to see is a puzzle waiting to be solved. Cole is the man with a plan, he’s always a step ahead of the game, but he may have just met his match. Whether you lose your breath or find your heart, Ridley makes sure that The Wicked Dukes Club series gets off to a passionate start.
One Night for Seduction by Erica Ridley
Wicked Dukes Club #1
This fun easy read tells the story of wannabe spinster Diana Middleton and a man who cannot pass up a bet. Caleb Sutton, Duke of Colehaven has been on a winning streak for a decade so when hiss friend Thaddeus Middleton bets him he can’t find a husband for his ward (Diana) he jumps at the chance. Neither is what the other expected and they lead a merry dance as they get to know one another better at soirees, in the street, shopping and just in general. They find they have quite a bit in common but it does take them a bit of time to realize that they are meant to be together. Truly enjoyed this story and look forward to what comes next in the series as Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley alternate in telling the stories of the Wicked Dukes Club.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.
4 Stars
A wonderful story that will kept you entrainment until the end.
A strong lady, that doesn’t want an husband, but to be free with her research…
A duke, owner of a Wiched Dukes club and a bet that will change his life…
A funny story for all that love Regency.
I received a free book and this is my voluntary review.
London, England 1817 At the Wicked Duke Pub, the owners were celebrating the ten year anniversary of operation. Caleb, fifth Duke of Colehaven had won it in a bet and his winning streak was still not broken. But when his friend wagers he cannot find a husband for his ward, Cole accepts, but why is she not married at five and twenty?
Diana Middleton does not want marraige and is an expert at being a wallflower and unnoticeable. She has things to accomplish and wants her independence. She works, unbeknowest to everyone to help others who cannot help themselves and she is determined not to give that up.
But when the handsome Duke of Colehaven meets her, he lets her know he will find her a husband but she holds steady and states she will not marry. Thus begins the adventure between the two of push and pull and tempers flaring! The spark is there almost immediately between the two, but one rule is that Cole cannot be the one to marry Diana or he will lose the wager!
Erica Ridley, as always, creates a delightful story with characters that always entertain, while trying to find their happy ever after. Some just resist more that others! An amazing start to a new series that I cannot wait to read more!! Plus isn’t that cover gorgeous?
Erica Ridley is a new to me author and I’ll say I’m loving her style of writing. While reading I thought they fell for each other a bit to fast to soon but then I remembered how much I loved (now) my husband’s clever mind on our first date so I got past the “problem” and baaam I fell hard for the way they interacted.
This is the first book in the series and I have a feeling I’m in for a wicked (*wink wink*) ride!

What started as a joking bet between friends, quickly snowballs beyond anyone’s expectations. Cole immediately captured my imagination. He’s an aristocrat who’s a genuinely kind person. He wants to prove that he’s worthy of the title he inherited and champion causes that will improve the lives of many. Our first encounter with Diana left a bad taste in my mouth and made me reluctant to fully embrace her as our leading lady. However, the author’s ability to craft quirky, unconventional heroines that you can’t help but fall in love with, meant that I was quickly seduced by everything Diana is and represents. In very short order it was easy for me to see why she had behaved in such an outlandish fashion and I could forgive her for her ways and means. This book was adorable and funny and a prime example of why I love this author’s work. I can’t wait to see what else the Wicked Duke is hiding behind its doors.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
LOVED this Book!!!
This is the first book in the new Series “The Wicked Dukes”, which will be written by Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke. And if this book is any indication on the whole series, I can not wait. This book made me happy, had me smiling the whole time I was reading it. Cole is just so cute, happy, friendly and really a nice person. His actions with Diana are so lovable thru the whole story, he is even lovable with his sister. Diana is an intelligent strong minded woman who just wants to be herself and do good. Diana and Cole are a great couple together.
I can not wait for more books from this series….
Awesome regency romance. The blurb gives the reader just a small bit of insight into this story. The author developed the characters in such description that you can understand what each main character deems is most important to them and society. Ms. Ridley’s storyline is exceptional as well as entertaining. Colt is a duke and expected to marry someone accepted by society. Diana wants justice for everyone and not to feel as a possession and told what to do by a husband so she chooses spinsterhood. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I very much look forward to reading future books by Ms. Ridley.

What a great start to a new series. I so appreciate and adore the strong female character of Diana. Add to that an unexpected forward thinking Duke of Colehaven (“Cole”) who for once was not born into his titled, but unexpectedly was told he was the new Duke. I loved that Cole was born poor and understood the struggle of the working class. Diana is so strong is in a time when strong women had nowhere to go and nothing meaningful to do. This hits all the right historical notes for me. (Review by Terri “Jane”)
Oh, my goodness!! This is one of Erica’s best. She has become my favorite romance author EVER! Fabulous characters; fun, fast-paced plot; incredible dialogue and sweet, hot romance. Cole and Diana are definitely in the running for best couple of the year.
A brilliant story. When Cole wagers to help his friend marry off his cousin, Diana, boy is he in over his head. He meets a woman with a brilliant mind and goes head on with him. Great dialogue and sparks will fly. They are perfect for each other, if only they can let their guard down. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
“One Night for Seduction” by Erica Ridley
I loved this story… and easy, fun, regency romance. Did you read the blurb? You really do want to check out the ‘wallflower’ that isn’t your typical definition of wallflower… and will the Duke of Colehaven win his bet/dare and keep his winning streak alive and well. I was gifted an ARC of this story and I am ever so grateful for the chance share my opinion of this story.
This is the first in a new series “Wicked Dukes club”written along with Darcy Burke. What a wonderful way to start. As usual Ms Ridley has written both her heroine and hero with intelligence, strength, humor, honor and independence. I love the way Ms Ridley brings so much more to her characters. Each has so much understanding of their favourite interest and Ms Ridley puts so much research into it so that the reader has no doubt that the characters truly know what they are talking about. It is also wonderful the way difficulties of the era are brought to light and with the help of her characters, changed. But these books are HEA and there is the heart warming and often humorous romance to keep you reading and feeling engaged with the story. There is some very mild sex in this book which for this reviewer who always skips the sex found very acceptable. I received this book as an ARC and am now hanging out for MS Ridleys next one but in the mean time will be reading MS Burke’s, the second in the series.
A hit from Erica Ridley, One Night for Seduction is an amazing read! I laughed at Cole & Diana’s interactions every time. They are perfect together and the author builds that connection from the beginning. I loved the humour between them, I didn’t want the story to end!
The story had me in tears, too. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series, going by this book, I’m going to enjoy them all. I definitely recommend this book. I was given an Advanced Reader Copy but I voluntarily gave my honest review and all opinions are my own.
One of my favourite lines…
‘Cole said. “I brought you beer because entering my tavern would ruin your reputation, but I’m starting to fear what spending an hour in this parlor is going to do to mine.”’ 😀
Cole never expected to become a Duke but when the mantle fell upon him, he was determined to be the best he could, educating himself, helping others and contributing to the betterment of others, while being a bit wicked with his friends and fellow Dukes. Diana is considered unmarriageable and she’s quite happy about that, she has no intention to marry, and actively dissuades any suitors. She tries to be non-descript as she goes about town, studying everything uses the ruse of a ‘weights and measures’ inspector to ensure patrons are not cheated by vendors. She is an activist but feels she can only do things undercover.
Diana’s cousin enters a bet with Cole that he cannot find a suitor to marry his ‘unmarriageable’ cousin, Cole can’t walk away from the challenge, but instead of finding her a suitor he finds himself drawn to her himself.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book for an honest review, and it was truly a pleasure to be one of the first to read. It has charm and wit and even though it’s so clear to me as a reader that these two were trying to do the same thing, it took the characters a bit more time to realize that than I like. This was a lovely romance and quick read.

5 Great Stars!
Oh! What a lovely start to this series!
I loved every minute of this story, from the delightful young lady, adamant that she would not get married to the bewildered Duke who found that he had in fact fallen in love – to his total amazement and everything in-between.
It is a page-turner of note which reads fluidly and is easy to follow.
These are just some of the things that make me want to recommend this book.
I requested and read an Advance Reader Copy and my unbiased review is given voluntarily.
