One More Promise is the second book in the Shaughnessy Brothers: Band on the Run series. Dylan is known as the bad boy of the group, so when he gets a DUI and lands in rehab, everyone hopes this will help. Paige had the groundwork done and has the perfect campaign worked out. Now she just needs to have everything go as planned, and she will finally be able to prove to everyone at the PR firm she works for that she has what it takes. But then her sister changes everything, and she is forced to babysit Dylan. Of course the sparks fly, whether Paige wants that or not. What will come of this forced pairing? I really enjoyed this story. This is one I highly recommend.
Inspiring!! Dylan Anders is out of rehab and wanting to start a new beginning. Paige Walters is a woman who is strong & independent as long as it doesn’t involve her family. I fell in love with Dylan & Paige! I thought this story was very inspiring while also breaking my heart at some points! You should keep the tissues close while reading. There were so many times I wanted to reach out and hug either Dylan or Paige when life was hitting them hard. This is my favorite story so far in this series!
Samantha Chase never disappoints. Could not put the book down. One mistake can change your life and then you need to renuild your reputation. Then you meet someone you think has it all. But can two people from two different backgrounds work together, and heal each other?? One doesn’t realize they need help and emotional support. Take the journey with Dylan and Paige. Thank you, Samantha.
I really LOVED this read!!! It’s got just the right amount of drama in it, and touches on an issue that a lot of people face right now. Paige and Dylan were perfect together. They were sweet and sexy, and a couple you will definitely fall in love with. Some of the supporting characters left a lot to be desired…. one in particular that I wanted to reach in to my kindle and smack upside her head. An overall fantastic read that I would definitely recommend!
Favorite Quotes:
Leave it to his parents to think all he needed to get started on this new life was a new suitcase.
Ariel didn’t smile. She rarely did. She thought it caused wrinkles.
She wasn’t even his usual type, but it turned out his usual type wasn’t particularly good for him.
A man knew when to pay attention, and Dylan learned early on that food was to Paige what flowers were to some women.
My Review:
This was a relatively light and easy to follow story with a slowly developing romance between Dylan, a newly rehabbed and tattooed bad boy rock-star with his reputation in tatters; and Paige, the mousy, uptight, and generally overlooked yet anxious to please PR executive who was assigned to be his handler. Paige worked in her father’s firm and her family was rather vile, yet they provided most of the comic relief.
If you have ever read a romance novel at any time in your life then, of course, you already know the outcome, yet the story was entertaining with a few delightfully naughty bits, and the characters were sweet and endearingly flawed. Although, I was slow to fully warm up to Paige as she was initially rudely judgmental and inflexible. I did not expect the former hard-partying man-ho rock-star to be the most level-headed, considerate, and thoughtful character in the book, but I adored the sweet and sexy Dylan.
Most girls/women have had a rock-star or famous actor fantasy or two – um thousand, yes, I will fess up… I’ll own it and wave my hands in the air like I do not care. While I don’t read rocker romances often, there are times I need something lighter in tone to break up the tedium or alleviate the residual heaviness from over-servings of angst or brain scrambling thrillers, and this sexy bad boy with a bad rep for fast living and hard partying came at a good time. And well, it’s from Samantha Chase, nuff said.
4.5 Stars for One More Promise by Samantha Chase, this is Book two in the Band on the Run Series but it can be read as a stand-alone, I know this because I haven’t read book one as yet and it didn’t distract from my enjoyment of this story. Dylan and Paige where do I begin. I loved this couple and their story had my emotions all over the place, I smiled, I got angry and I shed a tear but the what I loved most was journey we were taken on of two people getting to know each other as they fell in love, the characters are strong and have depth, I’m sure if you take a chance on this book you will love them as much as I do. I can’t wait to read book one and I understand there is also going to be a book three, great job Samantha Chase.
3.75 stars–ONE MORE PROMISE is the second instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult BAND ON THE RUN romance series focusing on the rock band Shaughnessy. This is bass guitarist Dylan Anders, and PR person Paige Walters’ story line. ONE MORE PROMISE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. BAND ON THE RUN is a spin-off from the author’s SHAUGHNESSY BROTHERS series.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Dylan and Paige) ONE MORE PROMISE follows Dylan Anders in the months after his release from rehab following a drunk driving accident where our hero was at the wheel of the car. With community service on the horizon Dylan opts to investigate the literacy campaign promotion offered by the PRW Agency. Enter Paige Walters, the woman in charge of the agency’s campaign, and the woman with whom Dylan will fall in love. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Dylan and Paige, and the fall-out when Dylan’s past refuses to let go of the present.
Paige Walters is a stickler for order; a no-nonsense woman who works for her father but always finds herself on the outside looking in as her older sister continues to enjoy the accolades of being daddy’s favourite, drawing blood in a game of one-upmanship and personal attention. As the literacy campaign runs into high gear, Paige Walters finds herself pushed to the side as her sister enjoys the benefits of our heroine’s hard work. Paige’s low self-esteem and inability to demand her due will be the downfall of a woman when disaster strikes at the most inappropriate time.
Dylan Anders knows that he has three months of community service working with the PRW Agency and the literacy campaign but falling into the cyclone that is Paige Walters was something Dylan had never imagined. Trying to keep his distance was virtually impossible, and when the PR agency demanded that Paige and Dylan play the role of a lifetime, meant Paige’s pull would become stronger than ever.
The relationship between Paige and Dylan begins as a business arrangement that will soon take on a life of its own when the paparazzi gets wind of our hero’s potential downfall. Their initial meeting leads to many acrimonious confrontations caused by our heroine’s inability to bend her own rules. Pretending to be in a relationship finds our couple growing closer together, a relationship that will soon grow into something more. The $ex scenes are passionate but mostly implied and fade to black.
We are introduced to Paige’s controlling father Robert Walters, and conniving sister Ariel Blake; Paige’s assistant Daisy, as well as the reintroduction of Dylan’s band mates Riley and Savannah (This is Our Song: The Shaughnessy Brothers 4), Matt and Vivienne (One More Kiss; Band on the Run #1), drummer Julian, and Dylan’s agent Mick.
ONE MORE PROMISE is a story of family and friendship; recovery and forgiveness; acceptance, romance and love; of the bad boy falling in love with the good girl, and the good girl wanting what she could never have. Our heroine’s attitude early on was a little disconcerting but we soon discover that she has spent her life in the shadows of her older sister-a woman who continues to destroy our heroine’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth. The premise is both heart warming and heart breaking; the romance is captivating and sensual; the characters are realistic and inspiring. ONE MORE PROMISE is a sweet and engaging tale of one woman finally coming into her own.
I was given an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that this book took me longer than most to read. I enjoyed the story line and the twists and turns that the characters faced throughout the story – I wish it would’ve been shorter with about half the content. There was mention of Dylan’s bad attitude but Paige quickly forgave him. Overall I think there was just too much in this story. I have other books to read by this author but it may take me some time to want to read more books like this.
One More Promise is book 2 in the Band on the Run series but can be read as a stand alone. The series is about a rock band called Shaughnessy that has reached stardom & each member wanted to take some time off for different reasons. This book is Dylan Anders’ story. Dylan needed the time off to go to rehab. He started acting out as a teenager to try & get a reaction out of his parents. They were never critical of him or set limits & he wanted an indication that they cared. After having an accident when he was drunk, he realized he had to stop, paid attention in rehab & finally talked to his parents about their part in things. Now, he has a horrible reputation, a lot of time on his hands, & community service to finish.
Paige Waters works for her family’s PR firm. She’s the opposite of Dylan. She never does anything wrong & works hard to gain her father’s acceptance. She follows up on every project & completes tasks that aren’t her responsibility thinking her father might see. Instead, her sister, Ariel, swoops in & takes over at the end so that she gets the praise. She’s dreamed up a publicity event for a literacy client & is sure that her dad will finally see that she’s good at her job. And then it happens, Ariel decided Paige’s idea was boring so now, instead of the authors Paige was envisioning, she’s stuck babysitting a muscle bound, tattooed rock star.
Once again, Ms. Chase has taken a character that inspires awe & admiration & gives him characteristics & emotions that bring him down to earth so the reader can relate. Paige & Dylan both are damaged from their interactions with their family, react in different ways & need to find the strength & courage to break the pattern. I could have smacked Ariel with the way she continually tried to undermine Paige & make her look bad. The author managed to make the point that a bad reputation can follow you no matter what you do to change it. Paige & Dylan struck sparks off each other right from the beginning & it was fun reading about them trying to resist it. Their interactions make you laugh, smile, cry &, at times, made me mad! This was another wonderfully emotional story from a very talented author.
Samantha Chase is an expert at dreaming up larger than life characters that are hard to resist and even harder to walk away from. Her greatest asset is her ability to humanize those large personalities into people we as readers can relate to. That has never been more evident, than within the pages of One More Promise. Dylan is a man with a ton of baggage and a persona that overshadows his remorseful attitude. Paige is a woman, with a bit of a chip on her shoulder and a lot to prove. One More Promise is a tale of forgiveness that borders on regret and spirals into an unforgettable love story. Second chances aren’t given, they’re earned.
