The Shaughnessy Brothers: Band on the Run series has been one I have enjoyed throughout and One More Moment was a perfect addition! I will say that this book will be more enjoyable if you have read the others in the series. The other characters are present and having some knowledge of their backstory is helpful.
Julian Grayson has always been the most mysterious of the Shaughnessy band members. It was clear he was the drummer and that everyone around him thought he could do better in the girlfriend department, but that was all we knew. What I can tell you is that Jules is SO much more than that and I was so excited to learn more about him. He’s passionate, loyal, stubborn and he’s wickedly talented.
Charlotte Clark loves to help people. She is a social worker and wants to do the best she can for those that come through her office door and sometimes it is at her own expense. She’s passionate and she’s committed to her work without a doubt, but she wants more than that. She wants the family and the white picket fence and what she wouldn’t give for a beachfront view.
When Julian and Charlotte meet in line at the coffee house, Charlotte mistakes the circumstances and believes that Julian is in need of her professional skills. Liking that Charlotte has no clue who he is, Julian doesn’t correct her. As the two begin to spend more and more time together, the attraction grows and finally it can’t be stopped any longer. The question is, will the baggage from Julian’s previous relationship not only tank this one before it really gets started, but will it also end his music career?
This book was fantastic from the start. I loved all of the characters and the way that everything unfolded. It seemed like this could really happen in the real world. To me, this book was about finding your inner strength to overcome the things that are put in your path and you have to be ready to deal with them to finally come to that conclusion. Watching the way that both Charlotte and Julian grew, both separately and as a couple, was lovely to see and it should show people that sometimes you have to lean on others to get back to where you really need to be.
One More Moment is my favorite book of this series. Julian is serious and intense and Charlotte is sweet, sexy and sassy. In the beginning Julian did not want to admit his attraction to Charlotte. He was buried in the past. Julian is holding in his emotions. In the past his pride and and his heart were damaged. Charlotte understands he was hurt and accepts where he is now. Julian wants to make Charlotte happy he is tender and caring with her. But he doesn’t share all of himself with Charlotte. I love once Julian lets Charlotte in his heart and lets go of his past. This is very character driven story that will pull at you heartstrings. This is my favorite book of Samantha’s to date.
Samantha did an amazing job yet again with this book, the 3rd book in the Band on the Run series. One More Moment caught ur attention with all the feels. Julian running from an almost marriage comes home after a 3 month long road trip. He wasn’t excepting to meet anyone let alone fall for the beautiful Charlotte. Their meeting wasn’t normal by any stretch, they both were at a local coffee shop. After Julian had ordered he realized he had forgotten his wallet, Charlotte was standing in line behind him and figured that she would pay it forward and pay for his coffee. Julian was offended by this gesture of kindness. Charlotte was taken by surprise and told him to just pay in forward the next time. After that encounter Julian couldn’t get her out of his head. There was something about her that he couldn’t put his finger on, he wanted to know more about her. Charlotte on the other hand thought that he might be down on his luck a d in need to a job so she offers her assistance to help. They started spending time together, learning all they could about one another.
“You want it all, sweetheart?” He asked as he took a menacing step closer. “I guess you’ll get it from your latest fling.”
Julian left the chaos behind him & took off in a 3 month trip to “find” himself after the breakup. He couldn’t believe he let his ex-girlfriend, Dena keep doing this to him. Instead of helping him deal with everything, the trip just made the anger stronger & had humiliation dig into him until he felt he had to stop the music. Julian didn’t realize all he was doing was denying himself the support of his band mates & the joy of performing.
Charlotte loved relaxing on the beach. Her job as a social worker was enjoyable, but could be draining & taxing. She loved helping people find homes, jobs & their self worth but it took a lot out of her. Running into Julian at her favorite coffee shop, she thought he was homeless & needed her help. When their relationship progressed but began to look like Julian was acting in the same dysfunctional manner he did in his relationship with Dena, Charlotte called it quits. Would Julian just let her go or would he finally face his demons?
Samantha Chase takes her readers on a journey of self discovery with this story. Julian needs to deal with his past in order to be the man Charlotte needs. His parents gave him a bad portrait of a relationship & some bad advice about Dena which caused him to dig in & keep trying instead of calling it quits. He needed to learn to verbalize & deal with his issues instead of trying to hide them. Charlotte also needed to realize she didn’t need to be “on” 24-7. She needed to give her mind & body time to recover. I enjoyed visiting the lives of the couples from the rest of the series but it can easily still be read as a stand alone.
I enjoyed Julian & Charlotte’s relationship. He had his music, talent & money whereas she had her selflessness, good nature & positive attitude. Julian needed someone like her to keep him grounded. Charlotte needed him to remind her that money wasn’t all evil & excess. Their chemistry was amazing. The wrap up to this series is bittersweet. It was great to revisit them all & see how they’ve grown.
In life and in love we tend to take ourselves too seriously. One More Moment is a complicated tale of hardship and appreciation for the simple things. The key to living is to not sweat the small stuff but enjoy the important moments. Julian and Charlotte have much to learn about life, love and each other. Samantha Chase takes readers on an insightful and entertaining road trip.
