A Cheerful and Exciting Christmas with New Beginnings…
One More For Christmas by Sarah Morgan is a stand-a-lone book that pulls you right into the Christmas Spirit we all dream of. A tragedy reunites an estranged mother with her two daughters. A rocky beginning turns into a heart-warming cheerful Christmas setting that brightens as the story unfolds.
Sarah’s ability to quickly depict the settings and characters creates a gripping read as you feel like you are pulled right into the middle of the storyline. Sometimes tragedies have a way of bringing out the best in people and this book really portrays what Christmas and Holiday Spirit is all about.
I absolutely loved this book and I love the writing. I’m a new huge fan of Sarah Morgan. The characters are great, the romance is lovely, and the storyline realistic. I loved it all.
A beautiful Christmas story about a most dysfunctional family of two adult daughters and their cold, distant mother. Their journey from totally estranged to happiness and connection is bumpy and filled with lessons.
The setting of Scotland is beautiful and of course there is a romance that filled my heart.
Perfect for Christmas
One More For Christmas by Sarah Morgan is a most delightful contemporary festive offering that will have you longing for snow covered hills and log fires.
The novel is about families. They come in all sorts of sizes and shapes – some are loving, others are fractured. We parent the best we can but we always have areas of guilt where we wish we had parented differently. We do our best for our children passing on the life skills that we think they need but our children do not always thank us for it.
We witness the power of compromise when motivated by love as a family tries to repair the broken relationships.
We must not criticise others. If we have not walked in their shoes, we have no idea what they have gone through. To pass judgements without knowing the full story is wrong. Secrets hide past hurts. In order to fully understand what has motivated another, secrets must be revealed.
All the characters were delightfully drawn. They were realistically flawed and easy to empathise with. The dialogue was extremely funny at times as the reader witnessed some classic verbal volleys. I particularly loved the young four year old with her wonderful mannerisms. The story was written from several alternating points of view, enabling the reader to fully know the characters.
There are losses to recover from. Things must be done in new ways.
I loved the setting of the Scottish highlands with snow covered mountains. It evoked warm thoughts of log fires and snowmen, snow topped fir trees and footprints. Sarah Morgan perfectly captured the scene with her words.
It is never too late to have a new beginning. While we have breath in our bodies, we can always find a new way of doing the familiar, giving our lives a fresh, new direction.
One More For Christmas is such a delightful read focussing on families. I adored it. I always love Sarah Morgan’s novels.
A word of caution: there are a couple of bedroom scenes with rather more detail than I am comfortable with but I just skipped over them. It did not detract from the story.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
This book made me happy. While it tackles some tough subjects, it does so with enough lightness and humor that I never felt overwhelmed. Morgan is one of my auto-buy authors and this novel certainly cements that status.
What a wonderful story this is! Sisters Samantha and Ella Mitchell have been estranged from their mother for five years. When their mother Gayle has an accident and realizes how alone she is, she decides that she needs to reach out to her daughters and re-establish a relationship with them. She is met with mistrust and wariness and is hurt even more when she finds out that Ella is married and that she has a five year old granddaughter. Can a trip to Scotland for Christmas bring this family back together?
Very good characters. Demonstrates that people can change if they are determined to do so.
Nice book to read during the holidays. A family comes together after the daughters had been estranged from their mother for years over a holiday trip to a manor house in Scotland. Everyone begins to understand each other better and wounds are healed. Nice to have a backdrop of Scotland.
definitely worth reading and more than just a Christmas story.
Very much enjoy rd.
4.5/5
Song/s the book brought to mind: Winter Wonderland by Michael Bublé because this book is SET in a winter wonderland!
One More for Christmas is my first book by Sarah Morgan and it definitely won’t be my last, I LOVED this book!! It was funny, heartfelt, and set in a stunning location. I loved the look at the sister relationship between Samantha and Ella, and their relationships (or lack thereof) with their mom Gayle. Forgiveness was one of the big themes in the book, and what a better time for forgiveness than around Christmastime? I also loved that the book included viewpoints of the owners of the estate in the Scottish Highlands that the family goes to for Christmas. This isn’t explicitly mentioned in the synopsis, but I don’t consider it a spoiler.
I thought Morgan created the best characters and this would make an amazing movie. The cover is notable to mention because it’s gorgeous, and it is perfect to convey the feel of the book. One More for Christmas has Hallmark qualities but it was also very emotional and complex and went above and beyond what I was expecting from a holiday read. Lucy Tregear narrates the audio which is how I did this one, and I loved her narration for the book. One More for Christmas was so much fun and had so much heart, and I highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a sweet Christmas read!
One More For Christmas by Sarah Morgan
Contemporary women’s fiction / romance. Told mostly from three points of view: Samantha, Elle, and their mother Gayle. As adults, they are rekindling their connections after Gayle has an accident and realizes work isn’t enough for her anymore.
Lots of emotional healing in the book plus a wonderful hero who is a self proclaimed clumsy nerd. He will do what’s needed to save his family home.
Consenting and differing opinions from my book group on the ease of the reconciliation and forgiveness. I found it touching and it made my heart happy.
Plenty of emotional tears for me.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
This is the first contemporary of the author’s I’ve read, but it won’t be the last. There were enough different story lines to fill the pages without too much overlap, though they all center on the mother who begins and ends the story. The author deftly sets up the expectations for each character growth and plays them against the magnificent backdrop of winter in the Scottish highlands. This was a true joy to read, and one we all need especially this year. Go grab your copy!
If you are a fan of Women’s Fiction you are going to love this book. The story of a mother and her two daughters re-connecting after a falling out is one of family bonding, self-awareness, and women supporting women, no matter the choices they make. There’s newly found friends in the stunning setting of a getaway in Scotland over the holidays. One of the daughters, Samantha, has a bit of romance with a hero that is good and likeable as she learns to let her true self out. The other, Ella, is learning that being a mother, wife, sister and daughter means making choices and being okay with the fact that, no matter what, she is doing her best and that’s okay. And Gayle, the mother, is discovering that despite her life looking perfect from the outside, things may not be exactly how she would wish them and that it’s never too late to change things. Morgan has been a longtime favorite of mine. Her writing about female relationships has only gotten stronger through the years. I love that she equally champions both the CEO as well as the woman who chooses to stay home with their child. One More for Christmas is a well-written book that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a book with multi-layered characters, a fantastic setting and a heartwarming ending.
Mending Hearts
A mother/daughters relationship has gone wrong. Can a Christmas spent in the snowy highlands of Scotland, along with reindeer, an adorable little girl and a grieving family; mend all their hearts? And, can Samantha connect with her inner wildness and find a love that she cannot forget?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An emotional journey of healing! ONE MORE FOR CHRISTMAS by Sarah Morgan is a powerful story of family healing. The plot was fast paced and had me hooked quickly and as the story played out, I liked them more and more.
Gayle has been estranged from her grown daughters for several years and when a flash of uncertainty has her examining her choices, she reaches out to heal the rift.
Samantha chose to be a high powered career woman just like her mother pushed down their throats their entire lives, but she never hesitates to be a bull dog when it comes to protecting her adored little sister.
Ella sees the good in life and totally throws herself into the joys of motherhood and marriage, but the thought of admitting she chose the homey side of life to her go-getter mother is terrifying.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming holiday story with a hint of romance.
After a freak accident Gayle Mitchell is determined to reconnect with her estranged daughters by joining them for the holidays in Scotland. There they are at the home of the McIntyre’s who are going through their own period of adjusting. Together the two family’s are helping each other heal and move forward. This is a wonderfully written story that proves it’s never too late.
I really hope we get to revisit the Mitchell’s and the McIntyre’s in the future.
Gayle Mitchell, a very successful businesswoman, hasn’t had any contact with her two daughters in five years. When Gayle has an accident at work her two estranged daughters, Samantha and Ella, rush to her hospital bedside. Samantha, who owns a travel business that specializes in winter vacations all over the world, is planning to spend Christmas in Scotland while checking out a potential vacation spot for her clients. Her sister Ella and her husband and daughter also plan on going. Gayle wants to be part of their lives again and she invites herself along. Set in the beautiful Scottish highlands this is a wonderfully well written story about mothers, daughters and the bond they share. Not that everything goes smoothly but the love of family is strong. I loved the characters! You won’t want to put this down!!
I really like the Christmas books done by Sarah Morgan. Her involvement of the family as a major issue (and usually sisters) really hits the mark with me. This one was about not only two sisters and their estranged mother, but also a family in Scotland. The family in Scotland is still mourning their father and husband, while dealing with having to take visitors into their home in order to not lose it.
I love being taken to new places in books and Ms. Morgan definitely transported me to Scotland. Brodie, who sets up the visit for the Mitchell women is a nerdy, awkward hunk. His overhearing a conversation that Samantha, the eldest sister, means for someone else starts the book off with some hilarity that sets the two up for an interesting romance. Along with the romance is a lot of discovery of true feeling and forgiveness for the Mitchell women.
A very entertaining read.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Al thoughts are my own.
Gayle Mitchell is a best selling author and successful businesswoman. She’s been estranged from her two daughters and doesn’t know she’s a mother-in-law or a grandmother. When she has an accident while giving a live interview, she asks them to call her daughter, before she’s taken away in the ambulance. Grab your copy and see what happens in great story about forgiveness, reconnecting with family, new friendships, and finding love. I love Christmas stories and since this is centered around the Christmas holidays, it makes it a must read for me.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
