‘I was on the edge of my seat and through bleary eyes, I read this in one sitting… anything, anything at all for them.
Sara made one promise to herself when she was growing up in foster care: that if she was lucky enough to have a family, she’d always do whatever it took to protect them. Looking around her home with its cosy kitchen and living room, where her energetic teenage daughters and gorgeous four-year-old son all eat, play and live together, she knows she’d do anything to keep them safe.
So when Sara’s husband Matt loses his job and every shred of his confidence with it, she knows it’s up to her to bring the family back from the brink. Though she doesn’t know where she can possibly find the money they need to keep afloat.
Until her boss at work offers her a deal. He’ll help out. She just has to do him one little favour. But could trusting him save Sara’s family, or will it be a mistake that costs her absolutely everything?
This year’s most gripping psychological thriller – perfect for fans of My Lovely Wife, The Girl on the Train, and Something in the Water.

Another gripping read by Rona Halsall that keeps you turning page after page to see what happens next. The plot is credible, fast-paced and you won’t see the end coming. I love the way the story is wound around one mistake, illustrating the knock on effect this had on Sara’s life. Mesmerising, full of suspense and a satisfying and unexpected ending.
Buckle up, this one is a doozy! It started as a typical psych thriller but then went all different directions that I didn’t expect. I liked seeing how Sara grew a backbone (although it didn’t always turn out how she hoped). I also thought the dynamic between Sara and her sister was interesting and unexpected – it wasn’t always sunshine. There were more than a few twists that I did not see coming and the resolutions were satisfying. I highly recommend this one. I Owe You by author Rona Halsall is an interesting example of what NOT to do when you are faced with financial problems!
The plot of the book is interesting and very good. I did not like any of the characters in this story. Sara was so insecure because of her childhood until she made stupid decisions. I wanted to shake her! Any sane person knows no good can come from stealing money! How could she agree to a whole weekend away from her family, especially knowing Ezra would cry for her? Sara’s actions made me hurt and I wanted to stop reading the book, but I did finish.
Sara is a wife and mother living a very comfortable suburban life until her husband, Matt, loses his job. Matt writes code for websites and decides he will start his own business in an office from home.
Sara has been working part-time at a local non-profit organization and hopes to be approved for more hours. The huge pivot point which starts a landslide of problems for Sara comes as she can not face telling Matt the money she had kept in reserve for emergencies has been lost to a risky investment. Sara had inherited the money from an aunt and wanted to use it to further her education. Matt had convinced her to save the money. Now Matt is asking that Sara give him the money for his new business start-up expenses.
Sara can not tell him the money is gone, so she decides to ‘borrow’ the money from one of the bank accounts she manages at her job. She fully thinks she will be able to repay the money when Matt’s business is online. There is a huge problem with her plan. Another part-time worker discovers what she has done!
James offers her a way to resolve the problem. He will replace the money in the account for her if she agrees to act as his escort or companion when he needs to attend social events. Although Sara has misgivings about the deal, she agrees to the arrangement in order to repay her debt to James.
Matt was a self-absorbed scoundrel. The twins were selfish and secretive. Hailey was a bossy older sister. James faded away altogether after his being attacked. Fiona was a manipulator from the beginning.
I have read much better books by Rona Halsall, so don’t hesitate to read her other books.

This book was a slow starter for me but in the end I really liked it. Sara and Matt have 3 children and she recently started working part-time at the community center. Matt loses his high paying job and decides he wants Sara’s inheritance to start a business of his own. The trouble is, Sara invested her money in order to make more and she ended up losing it. She comes up with a way to get money to give to him and from there everything goes downhill. I felt there were some things that needed explained in the end but never were. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this very interesting book in exchange for an honest review.
