One Last Objection is the fourth book in the Oak Grove series. I’ve read the first book, but not books two and three. Each one is a stand-alone and you will have no trouble following any of the books without reading the others. However, I have to say that the Bennett family is worth getting to know.
Michael is the second oldest of the Bennett brothers. He’s always known what he wanted in life and has pursued it relentlessly. He has devoted his life to making partner at one of the most prestigious law firms in Philly. Maggie is much like Michael in that she has devoted her life to her career. She comes from a privileged background, but like so many who do it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. She was neglected by her parents and raised by nannies. Of course, this has led to many issues. It also led her to her career as a family counselor. Ironic, huh?
An unplanned pregnancy causes both of them to reassess their careers and what is truly important in life. Michael is much better at this than Maggie, but then he’s had unconditional support from his family throughout his life. Maggie uses her background as an excuse to stay stagnant and in denial. She was borderline selfish in her refusal to get over herself. I did really enjoy getting the latest on the Bennett family, though. They remain one of my faves!
Uh
Spoiler alert
Really? What’s with stories where the hero gets treated like crap through the entire book and yet he falls in love? I hated her through the entire story. He deserved so much more!
Great book and loved the storyline!!!!!
Great book.
Wonderful story with great characters! I love this series and the Bennet family!
Sweet love story
Super
Wonderful!!!
I had a hard time putting this book down. Very easy read and eat you going to see what was going to happen and when. One very stubborn girl and one very determined man. Fun to read.
First few pages so disgusting did not waste my time to read further.
I enjoyed this book. Michael was great, very patient and giving.
This book could have been a 5 except for …
I love a friends to lovers tale, which is why One Last Objection by Nancy Stopper held such promise. Sadly, I was put off by the vulgar language and explicit sex.
I really liked Maggie and Micheal’s story. They are friends with benefits, then Maggie accidentally gets pregnant. He wants to marry, but she doesn’t. The remainder of the book is about their relationship journey that leads to their happy-ever-after.
The writing was good, as was the story. I liked and even understood the characters, flaws and all. The supporting characters also added to the sweetness and story depth. But, as I mentioned, the swearing, vulgarities and explicit sex just left me cold. I have read books by other writers that conveyed passion without porn, and conveyed thoughts without vulgarities. Thankfully, the ending moved this book up from a 3 to a 4. I wish I could have given it a 5.
Some parents can really mess you up. Love how this one untangles and rebuilds. Great characters from prior stories set in same town.
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the full length novel One Last Objection: A Small Town Romance:Oak Grove book 4 by Nancy Stopper and this review was given freely.
Another steamy action packed and stress filled saga containing a wedding, Rachel’s continued quest regarding her birth family, and the last Bennett brother Michael succumbing to love. Attorney Michael Bennett leaves his high power job in Philly to take over a general practice in his home town of Oak Grove which also places him closer to his family and his secret liaison, Oak Grove and Bennett family’s relationship phobic Physiatrist, Maggie James who is now pregnant and scared of motherhood after her privileged but isolated upbringing. The struggle for balance in career and private life leads to a rocky and emotional romance containing all the worries and decisions around an unplanned and fragile pregnancy but culminates in a heartwarming ending.
I absolutely love Nancy Stopper’s Oak Grove series! Michael’s story is really good and I love the way this one pans out. Michael thought he was on the track to make partner after working his butt off at the law firm. He met Maggie and he has been her “friends with benefits” partner for about 18 months. When he find out that he did not make partner, he decides to move home and take over a practice for a retiring attorney. Maggie lives in his home town and is excited to see him back but when life throws a wrench in her “no marriage and no children” plan, she does not quite know how to handle it. Michael and Maggie’s story is one of commitment, love, and family. Awesome!!!
Great read! Maggie and Michael encounter a range of obstacles in the course of the love. The overwhelming love exhibited in all the books of this series of the Bennett family. This is just what Maggie needs after her unhappy childhood. I would love to see a book in this series where all the Bennett’s get married!
** I received a free ARC of this book, and I chose to provide this review. All opinions are my own. **
As with the previous books in this series, the author did not disappoint. One Last Objection is the story of Michael Bennett and Dr. Margaret James. Margaret has issues from her childhood that make her believe she doesn’t want to get married, but Michael has other plans for her. I loved the determination and patience Michael showed, and I enjoyed watching Margaret soften to him.
One Last Objection was my favorite Oak Grove book – I LOVED it! From there beginning, I was interested in the characters, and I loved how the author developed them throughout the story. This was one of those books that I read in an afternoon, because I didn’t want to put it down. I love when a book catches me that way, and One Last Objection did not disappoint.
i love when you’re invested in a series, and characters that were on the periphery are brought to the forefront. Big city attorney Michael Bennett has only shown up in previous Oak Grove books at Sunday family dinner. And psychiatrist Margaret James has treated all of the Bennett siblings except Michael. We find out in the prologue that they have been having a friends with benefits relationship because neither is looking for love or attachments. A disappointment in Michael’s career has him leaving the firm in a Philadelphia and moving back home. The Bennetts are thrilled to have him back in the fray, but how will Margaret feel about him wanting to explore their relationship, especially now that she’s pregnant? Ms. Stopper takes the trope of the unexpected pregnancy and elevates it to new heights with the emotional depth of her writing. She crafts a beautiful love story about romantic love, and also familial love and healing the hurts of the past. As always, I’ve enjoyed spending time in this fictional little town, and I look forward to returning for a visit as the series continues.
For big city lawyer Michael Bennett an objection is not what he wants to here, especially from Maggie. After being “friends with benefits” for 18 months now that they will live in the same city he wants to make it more. He has to convince Maggie to take a chance on him even if they’re not in love, they’re not right? I love this little town where everyone knows everyone. This great big growing family is so tightly knit but also complicated. I love that Maggie is 35, a professional, and a hot mess. Poor Michael is such a good man, but he has to keep many secrets not only his. This story telling draws you into their lives and emotions and the HEA just makes your day.
This has been my favorite book in the Oak Grove series. From the first page to the last, I loved the book. Maggie, Dr. Margaret James, was an awesome person who thinks I can do it myself person comes up with a difficult dilemma. .After a unsettling childhood, she has learned to trust only herself to get anything done. Love and marriage was something that didn’t really exist.
Maggie is a successful psychologist with a great practice and not willing to be in a “loving” relationship. But she does have a friends with benefits with Michael Bennett and they end up pregnant.
Now things have changed with Michael. They are having a baby!. Not what she planned for and she and Michael are not really in love.. Michael wants to make it legit but Maggie is against being married due to her experience during her childhood. Her mom and dad didn’t have a loving relationship and why should she. But after going through her pregnancy she realized the may Michael is more than just a friends with benefits. Maybe it’s time for her to realize that Michael loves her just the way she it. After all Michael’s family is full of love and that’s what she’s missing.
What a beautiful story. I love happy ever after.
