Just bloody amazing. Finn Bell is definitely an off-beat writer, and that’s why he has managed to write a truly unusual story. I have read quite a few really good books, mostly but not only by American authors: I have to say that Bell is right up there with best of them.’ – 5 Stars from Quentin, Reviewer on Amazon.com

This is my first book by Finn Bell, but he definitely has a way of writing thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the way the author was able to carefully add information about his country in order to make the story more detail-oriented and believable. I was able to guess some of the story before it happened, but for the most part, the mystery at the end came as a surprise to me, and I loved it. The intricacies of the murders were unlike other books in the same genre, and I know I’ll be looking forward to reading more works by this author.
Was great kept you wanting to keep reading to see what would happen next
What a fantastic storyteller! This book draws you in. Appreciated the author’s notes detailing certain facts on the area and also past religious practices. If you like haunting thrillers, then this is a definite read.
a great book combining psychology and cops and bad guys from a Kiwi perspective. was a fun and informative read. got me hooked on this author.
This book was a bit disappointing. It promised to be a fast-paced read but it was slow in places and repetitive in detail.
great story! Keeps you in suspense
Very good read. There wasn’t a history of how the killer became deranged. Are did I miss something.
Priests, who have devoted their lives to helping individuals who have been abused, are being killed in ever more gruesome ways, while the killer leaves no clues or evidence. Bobby Ress, a cop who is expanding his education in psychology, investigates the murders with his partner. His psychology training allows Bobby to identify the killer and confront him. A massive gun fight ensues with the killer and Bobby’s partner killed. The book was fast-paced, unpredictable and quite dark
This was a great book!
This book kept me glued to its pages.
this started a bit slow but built up nicely. Good book.
A great read!
Long book, uneventful ending.
Pancake Money is a paradox. The story that follows the murder case assignments of detective Pollo Latu and Bobby Ress is a contradiction in itself. It depicts life in the real world of police operations and the life in the eyes of a mentally challenged child. Bobby Ress has to tread delicately between his work as a protector of the community he pledges to serve and as a father who must gently present life in the real world to Eva.
I like Finn Bell’s manner of presenting the plot of Pancake Money. He skillfully maintains the suspense element of the story until the end. Besides, he veers away from what a typical serial killer book follows. This is the first Finn Bell book I read. I look forward to reading more of his works.
WOW!!! I have to say this book started a little slow for me but there was a nugget of something that made me stick with it. This is one of the most powerful books I’ve read in a long time and even though the lecture scenes seemed a little long they fit into the book completely by the end. Yes, it is a murder mystery that shows the bond between partners of different cultures investigating gruesome crimes of the clergy but it’s more than that. It shows how a country of people of all different cultures are really so very alike in the end. This author’s very descriptive and I thoroughly enjoyed the last few pages that gave you more insight into the country and the ways of the people.
