One Intrepid Soldier is a fast-paced adventure full of action, suspense, humor, and romance. The characters are engaging and the storyline strong and captivating. This book is full of adventure from kidnapping, escaping from rebels, dodging bullets, navigating the politics of a foreign country, riots and evading gorillas in the jungle to adrenaline-pumping rescues, witty banter and sexy times. Who could ask for more excitement than that!?
Ms. James does a great job of drawing you into the story with the non-stop action and solid characters. I enjoyed the fact that Reese was a strong, independent woman who could take care of herself but also knew when to ask for and accept help when it was needed, and that she also kept a level head and thought situations through. I also really enjoyed Dalton “Diesel” and his team of SEALS. The guys did not have a huge appearance in the story but they made an impact, nonetheless. The banter between them was fun and light and you could tell they were close. As for Diesel, though he was a take-charge alpha personality he never disregarded Reese’s thoughts, opinions or feelings in any situation. He, and his team, accepted her as one of them and included her in their discussions and planning. Reese and Diesel also have the making of a great couple. I liked the fact that even though their attraction was mutual from the start it did not overpower the story and their developing relationship was not rushed. This book is definitely a page-turner you will not want to put down.
1. One Intrepid SEAL
Review:
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue romantic military based suspense novel One Intrepid Seal: Mission 6 series book 1: Diesel and Reese by Elle James and this review was given freely.
Drama and action packed from the start with some vivid violence and of course a touch of romance as it is Harlequin. This novel is a good introduction to the brotherhood of men in SEAL Boat Team 22 but focuses primarily on six of them: Diesel, Pitbull, Harm, T-Mac, Big Jake and Buck.
When former Army captive, MMA fighter and now bodyguard Reese Brantley takes her first job to secretly guard the lecherous son of the Secretary of Defense,Ferrence Klein, during his diplomatic mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa, they are kidnapped twice and only the US Navy’s 10 man SEAL Boat Team 22 led by Texan Dalton ” Diesel” Landon and private small plane pilot Marly Simpson can rescue them.
18+ contains vivid violence. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.
What a fabulous start to Mission: Six. Reese is a survivor, a woman of strength and determination. Navy SEAL Dalton Samuel Landon aka “Diesel” is part of an elite team who receive the mission to rescue Reese and Ferrence the man she is guarding when they are kidnapped.
What ensues if a fight for their lives when Diesel and Reece are separated in the jungle from the rest of the team. A well-paced, action pact read with relatable characters and an engaging story throughout.
I am looking forward to reading more of this series and would recommend you grab it too.
Great page Turner book, action And passion. This author’s books are always Amazing with lot’s of military. Loved it…
ARC for honest review with no compensation 4.5 stars
One Intrepid Seal by Elle James is a suspenseful, nail biter, fast paced well written book.
Reese is a bodyguard for Ferrence, son of the Secretary of Defense, who is on trip for the US government trade talks, but they end up being kidnapped and taken deep in the Congo. With no backup, Reese has to figure out how to get them both out alive and not relive the horror of war she endured while being held captive by Al-Qaeda.
Dalton “Diesel” Landon and his seal team are called up to get them back but when Diesel and Reese get separated from the team after the successful rescue, they must find their way back to the pickup point except Diesel gets injured and now they must find medical help and a way out of the jungle. While all this is happening, an attraction is blooming that could lead to love but first they must find their way back to civilization….
Liked this story and I really want to hear more from Diesel’s team. Reese is so strong and finds herself in a bad situation. After she and her client are kidnapped, Navy SEALs are sent in to rescue them and things don’t always go as planned. The client was rescued, but Reese and Diesel were separated from the rest of the team and had to walk through the jungle where they encountered lots of wildlife and more rebels. Once they find help, you would think they were safe. Wrong! Now they and the team find themselves helping to stop a rebellion and a government take over. She is a bodyguard and he is a SEAL, not a good combination for a relationship, but they are drawn to each other. Will they be able to make it?
Diesel has been sent in after the Secretary and Defence’s son, a bit of slimmer if I’m honest! He was undertaking trade talks and being assisted by Reese, ex army veteran, ex MMA fighter and now bodyguard. Reese has over come some major trauma including being tortured and raped by Al-Qaeda. Her first charge as bodyguard however looks to have gone FUBAR before she even gets her business off the ground!
Diesel and the team manage to rescue them but he and Reese get separated from the team and make their own way to safety. They now have to evade warring factions in the Congo and those who profit from the warfare.
The jungle setting is so carefully created, it kinda leaps off the page at you. I was feeling bugs walking on me! Reese has overcome so much and whilst wary and watchful around Diesel, she soon relaxes in his comfortable presence. The love story and action are well crafted but the summit between the factions was unrealistic in how quickly they set aside their differences. However, I’m allowing for artistic licence!
If you like suspense and romance then One Intrepid SEAL by Elle James is definitely worth reading.
Navy SEAL Diesel Dalton Samuel Landon and his team are called in to get Reese Brantley and her boss out of Africa when they are taken hostage by hostile rebels, but in the chaos of infiltrating their hideout Reese and Diesel are separated from the team and on the run. What they don’t expect is the attraction that soon develops between the two of them.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Action packed from the very beginning. Diesel and Reese fight there way through danger in Africa, and find love along the way. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish
This book has it all – action, adventure, suspense, romance, funny parts and sexy times.
My heart raced this entire book, I couldn’t put it down. The way Mrs. James writes you feel personally connected to the characters. So when they are in a tight spot, you feel it also. You relate to the fear of heights and gorilla’s.
I also liked the getting to know you stage between the two leads. They were interested in each other but yet in the beginning it was sort of in the background. I am not a fan of books like this were they are in these tense spots and all they can think about is getting busy with the other. It takes me out of the scene. However, the romance and sexy times pick up mid story. Their chemistry was off the charts.
Another part of the book that I really liked was the banter between the guys. They didn’t play a huge role in this book, but when they were together you could just tell they were close. Some of the lines were laugh out loud! My husband thought I was crazy!
This book is almost non-stop full of action, suspense, and intrigue. There are a number of hold your breath moments as Diesel, Reese, and his fellow SEALS traverse the jungles of the Congo, and the associated politics. Let’s not forget the other trials and tribulations that occur.
I loved the fact that Reese was so kick a$$, while still showing her vulnerability. The same goes for Marly, the helo pilot. Although we didn’t get to see her vulnerable side, hopefully she will appear in an upcoming book.
Based on what Diesel and Reese have endured, their case of instalove is completely understandable. I would have loved an epilogue to read about what happens next with them. I am hoping the other books in this series will feature Diesel’s SEAL brothers who we encountered in this book. Maybe we will get an update on Reese and Diesel then.
Fast paced and exciting, I devoured this book in one sitting.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Sometimes a simple big game hunting trip in Africa doesn’t end up so simple. Certainly not when body guard, Reece Brantley and her charge end up in the hands of hostile rebels. This is not the best start to Reece’s new protection agency business. Guarding Ferrence Klein who is in Africa for a vacation and international conference and also acting as his assistant is Reece’s first job. It may end up being her last.
Instead of sending the demaned ranson, Klein’s very influential father who happens to be the U.S. Secretary of Defense sends Navy SEALs to Africa to recue his son and Reece. “Diesel” Dalton Landon leads the SEAL team to rescue them. That rescue was fairly easy. But it is only the beginning of lots of action with various twists and turns as the international conference begins. Diesel and Reece must think quicky and react event faster to stay safe. Along the way they find they have fallen in love. But can this work considering their jobs?
This is an action-packed, fast moving story. One Intrepid SEAL is the first book in author Elle James’ Mission Six new series. I look forward to reading more of these stories.
