Both of them loved him. One of them killed him . . .
Louise has had to watch her husband, Andrew, start a new family in the four years since he left her. The ‘other woman’ is now his wife – but Louise isn’t ready to let Caz enjoy the life … but Louise isn’t ready to let Caz enjoy the life that was once hers, or to let go of the man she still loves.
As Louise starts to dig into Caz’s past, the two women’s pretence of civility starts to slip. But in trying to undermine each other, they discover more about the man they both married.

It’s always the wife. But which one?

I had so many guesses about what was going to happen at the end of One In Three by Tess Stimson, and not once did I have it right! This is basically a domestic drama at its core, but it is also heartbreakingly full of hard subjects. I thought the mystery surrounding who killed Andrew (and why) was really well done, and this story is like peeling back the many layers of an onion. The viewpoints alternate through various characters which are also interspersed with police interviews. This was a great way to keep the reader wondering who was lying and who wasn’t, and you don’t want to read this book unless you are a fan of the unreliable narrator trope. I loved that I had no idea who to trust, and Stimson makes you question everyone and everything.
I think the audiobook is especially amazing as narrated by Bea Holland, Chris Dyer, Antonia Davies, Adam Bromley, Victoria Fox, Julie Maisey, & Joan Walker. I was thrilled to find out there was a full cast, and I liked every single one of the narrators which doesn’t always happen. It was great to have different narrators for the police interviews especially, and I also loved the sound effects that were included! There wasn’t a ton, but it was enough to add something extra to the audiobook and make me appreciate it even more. I was immediately drawn in by Stimson’s writing, and I kind of can’t believe this is my first time reading a book by her. I was fully engaged throughout the entire novel and I thought the pacing was steady as well. One In Three really held my attention and I finished it in just 2 sitting because I didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to read more from Stimson and I really hope she continues to write books like this!
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I loved this book!! Once I started, I did not want to put it down. Great characters & storyline. It kept me guessing the whole way through. Highly recommend!
This novel opens with the murder and two women are with the dead man. So, we know what happened, but not why or who is responsible. The rest of the novel provides the details through various voices, starting six weeks earlier.
No one is likable in this novel, and the husband, Andrew, is a creep and totally weak. I had a suspicion early on as to the murderer. When it was revealed, I was correct, but there were many red herrings, with too much obsessive behavior and strange events occurring in the novel.
Kind of kept you guessing. I thought the book was a bit slow. But it wasn’t a bad read
What happens when an ex-wife and the current wife finally realize that they had enough of their cheating narcissist husband?
One of the reasons why I enjoyed this thriller so much was because from an ancient-as-time female rivalry story it gradually progressed into a tale of emancipation even if it comes in the most macabre way imaginable. One of the most outstanding features of “One in Three” was character development. Both female protagonists start off as somewhat unlikable in their own way (you have to read it to know what I mean) and then undergo such a change, you can’t help but sit back and applaud. I mean, hardcore standing ovation! It doesn’t mean that the ending won’t catch you by total surprise. Original, twisty, and so very addictive, “One in Three” is one of the best thrillers I’ve read this year. Highly recommended to all fans of the genre!
One in Three is indeed a unique read. First wife, Louise, and second wife, Caz, have had a bad relationship since Andrew left Louise for a much younger Caz four years ago. Andrew and Louise have a sixteen-year old daughter together, and a four-year old (surprise) son. Caz and Andrew have a happy marriage with a young son of their own together. Beyond that, One in Three gets incredibly twisty, strange, and intense. As I learned more about Andrew, I quickly grew to not like him as he seems to keep igniting the horrible relationship between Louise and Caz. Tess Stimson weaves quite the tale right up to the big reveal at the end. It’s always the quiet ones.
A tale about three unpleasant people, Andrew, his current wife and his ex-wife. At the start, we are told one of his wives killed him – but which one. The book switches mainly between the women showing the lead up to the murder to the final reveal as the police try to determine which woman was guilty.
Divorce sure is a tricky thing.
Even trickier when the first and second wives end up completely immersed in each other’s lives, thanks to kids and a long withstanding family history. And when the current wife, Caz, and the first wife, Louise, can no longer play nice in the sandbox, the gloves come off.
One In Three opens with a bang when the husband (Andrew) is murdered and both wives are found at the scene, covered in blood and wielding the murder weapon. So who killed Andrew?
This was a really well-plotted, vindictive, and unpredictable thriller with an ending that will leave you in shock.
Things I loved:
The opening scene (definitely hooked me right away)
Character development (so much depth!)
The police interview transcripts sprinkled throughout the book; this was a great way to break up chapters, especially with the multiple POV narratives
My One Critique:
A couple parts felt a little slow, which made the book feel long. But for the most part, the slow parts were few and far between, so it worked out!
I definitely look forward to reading more from this author!
I would like to thank Avon books and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book.
I was immediately attracted by the pretty cover of this book where we see a couple hugging.
We find Andrew who left Louise to start a new family four years ago. Louise had no choice but to let him. Except that she still loves Andrew and she does not intend to let his new wife live the life she was supposed to live with him. Louise is going to do some research on the famous Caz and discover a lot of things about Andrew at the same time. And one night during a family celebration Andrew is murdered and Caz and Louise find themselves in front of his body.
A book read in one afternoon so much I was hooked to the story so gripping, captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists with endearing characters.
Two women feud over one charming man, one had been married to him for over a decade and the other is the new wife. What makes their relationship strange is that the 1st wife’s mother invites the exhusband and new wife to their party on an island, where he is murdered. In between tensions build and someone is bound to snap, but is it one of them? Where he had so many females who absolutely swoon over him, the reader really learns to not like his character. Almost all of the characters in this book were unlikeable in their own ways honestly, and it made for a very interesting read. This book absolutely messes with your mind and just when you think you have it figured out, it takes another twisted turn. I was able to figure out who the killer really was before the end of the story because as the saying goes “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer”. I won’t ruin it, but just be prepared for a helluva good read if you are into thrillers.
Louise is divorced from her husband, Andrew. He has gone on with his life and eventually married “the other woman”, Caz.
They are still in competition with each other .. neither of them giving up the man they both love. Louise is looking onto Caz’ past .. she just ‘knows’ there’s something there. Up until now, the two women have maintained a civil relationship, but that is find changing.
They have both discovered more about the man they both married.
Things come to a head when Andrew is found dead at a family party. Both women are standing over his body.
It’s always the wife. But which one?
Well-written, it’s suspenseful and full of twists and turns. There may some triggers for some .. the author has addressed the subjects of child abuse and infidelity with a light hand. The characters are solidly drawn into the midst of this most dysfunctional family. The voices of the characters are revealed chapter by chapter. The ending was unexpected.
Many thanks to the author / Harper 360 – Avon / Avon Books UK / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Amazing!
A really engaging story with well drawn characters. The plot has plenty of satisfying twists and turns!
This was one of the best books I’ve read in a while. It kept me guessing who was the killer all the way to the end.
Better than I thought it would be
Entertaining read with a surprising ending!
I loved this book!! Engrossing and highly entertaining!!
The story of a marriage from the perspective of two wives-who are compulsively obsessively conflicted about their part in unfolding drama-It is well done-though the ending was a bit too predictable-There are several red herrings that keep you wondering-hough -Recommend it for a a good yarn
I love psychological suspense novels as much as I love romances…and I must say this book is one of the best I’ve read in that former genre! So well written, insightful, and twisty! I couldn’t put it down! Grab it at only $.99!!! So worth it! Highly, highly recommend!
This was a very good thriller. Kept you guessing to the end. The characters were very well written and all of them were a little crazy! Ms. Stimson is definitely an author to keep an eye on. I haven’t read anything else by her but she will be added to my list. Good job!
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher and voluntarily chose to review it.
