Fresh starts, hope, and happily ever afters… Nurse Sage Nichols life changed when she lost her favorite patient and inherited a bed and breakfast in a town she didn’t know existed. She traveled to Aspen Cove intent to sell so she could hurry back to her life in Denver. Little did she know, she was about to find everything she ever needed in the tiny mountain town with a big heart. Sage found … found herself in a place where caring for your neighbor was a way of life. In her case, that happened to be surly Cannon Bishop, the man of her dreams.
Cannon Bishop was a man who learned long ago that hope was a dangerous thing. Closed off from the world after a family tragedy, Cannon lived a lonely life as the owner of Aspen Cove’s only bar and son to the town drunk. When Sage Nichols breezed into town, she offered the possibility of more if he’d only open his heart. Cannon’s protective walls tumble and suddenly a brighter future of healing, hope, and peace was possible…if only Sage would stay.

A great first book to the Aspen Cove series. Nurse Sage Nichols finds out that her favorite patient, Bea, has passed away and she is finding it hard to deal with her death. Sage loves to make a difference to those who are at the end of their lives, but her supervisor places her on leave in order for her to decide if this is her true calling. Bea has gifted Sage with a B&B in Aspen Cove and she decides to check out the B&B and the town that Bea so loved. Her first encounter is with Cannon Bishop and it is not a pleasant meeting. She finds Cannon arguing with his father and assumes that Cannon can be dangerous. Cannon’s father is the town drunk and the interaction between Cannon and his father was not the abuse that she thought, but Cannon trying to keep his father from hurting himself and others – too late for that as Sage tried to interfere and met the fist that was meant for Cannon. She soon learns that Cannon is doing his best with the situation and finds herself attracted to Cannon, the town and the many delightful community members living in Aspen Cove. I DID NOT receive a free copy of this book, but wanted to share my honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Where do I begin to tell you how good One Hundred Reasons is? It’s the story of a burned out geriatric ward nurse named Sage. She is so dedicated to her patients and her job that it has consumed her life. After the passing of one of her favorite patients, Sage is devastated and put on leave and a transfer list by her supervisor. There is also a bit of a surprise left to Sage by her late patient, a home in the mountain town of Aspen Cove. Sage is on leave from nursing so she heads to this small town to see why her patient left her a home and why it is so special about this town her patient wanted her to live there. One of her first encounters is with a sexy but surly man named Cannon. Since it’s a small town no matter how hard Sage tries she cannot avoid running into this exasperating man and to find out that he is her neighbor is the last thing that she expected. Cannon is a man consumed by his past. His life has not turned out as he expected. He owns and runs the only bar in town and feels as though he has been handed the short end of the stick in life. H doesn’t have much faith in anyone, least of all the cute but unknown outsider named Sage. Kelly Collins has written a contemporary romance full of interesting characters, funny banter, tender moments and plenty of heat! One Hundred Reasons is told in dual POV and I highly recommend this wonderful story. I cannot wait to see what story unfolds next in this series!
This is a terrific start to a new series. It is well-written and grabbed my attention from the beginning and never let go. The characters have depth and I truly cared about them. I would love to live in Aspen Cove.
Sage takes a giant leap of faith moving to Aspen Cove and it turns out to be the best thing she has ever done. Her soul is rejuvenated as she is able to really help people who need her–even if they didn’t know they needed her. Cannon is the perfect name for the hero! He is like a cannon-ready to explode and take out everything in his path. He is also a good man with a big heart who has had all his dreams shattered. My heart ached for him. He is one who didn’t know he needed Sage’s help until she refused to stay out of his life. They had chemistry! WOW!! Sparks flew whenever they were together. Sage was just as strong and stubborn as Cannon making them a perfect fit.
Aspen Cove is chock full of interesting, quirky, realistic characters that I can’t wait to get to know better. I am really looking forward to meeting more residents as the series unfolds.
There are at least one-hundred reasons why I strongly urge you to read One Hundred Reasons. I recommend checking out all the books written by the very talented Kelly Collins.
When Sage has a melt down after her favourite patient Bea dies, she is put on administrative leave and told to follow the instructions Bea has left her in a letter. As a result Sage finds herself in a tiny town where the diner is only open twice a week and a decent cup of coffee is nowhere in sight! She has no intention of staying, but at her sister’s urging, commits to at least checking out the bed and breakfast that Bea has left her. The odd mix of people she finds in the town hardly endear her to them, but after finding herself being shanghaied into working a shift for the local doctor, Bea slowly begins to thaw. Aspen Cove is made up with ordinary people who have every day problems, and whether she likes it or not, Sage finds herself being drawn into the mix. Cannon is man with the weight of the world on his shoulders and that makes him short tempered and brusque. However, Sage’s inherent caring nature soon starts to make a difference and she finds that the promise that Bea made her is coming to pass. I always enjoy reading Ms Collins’ books and this one does not disappoint. It is well written with a hopeful message and is romance at its best. Although this is part of a series it is nevertheless a standalone and has a happy ending.
My Rating:
4.5
Favorite Quotes:
…the air was filled with a scent that seemed to be synonymous with the elderly. Sage tried to figure the smell out, but the closest thing she could ever come up with was Bengay for arthritis mixed with contraband candy.
She confiscated the candy and reminded David Lark that a man with diabetes shouldn’t feed his disease. “Come on! I gave up women. I gave up alcohol. I gave up swearing. I’m dying.” He watched her tuck the candy bar into her pocket.
When Sage opened her mouth, the man popped a Life Saver from its wrapper straight into it. The cherry flavor coated her tongue. She wasn’t sure if it was supposed to ease the pain or shut her up. It did both.
I work for peanut butter cups and Skittles… I’m cheap, but I’m not easy.
She’d arrived and disrupted his status quo, making him realize it had been status woe.
My Review:
I adored this sweet small-town romance as I have every other Kelly Collins book I have ever picked up. Her characters tend to be flawed, wounded, endearing, and doing their best in a difficult situation and the main characters of this entertaining tale, Cannon and Sage, fit this description as well. The storylines were fresh, relevant, emotive, and thoughtfully observant with hits of humor and steam. I am excited about this new series of stand-alone stories and am already looking forward to the next installment.
