This was a new experience for me reading Nicole Flockton, but I was anxious to find out what the book was all about after the bright and cheerful cover caught my attention. With the world today we live in today I am often finding myself drawn to the bright cheery things lately and this was just what the doctor ordered.
We get the story of Kelly and Tate in this novel, as well as an obvious set up for more books with side characters that play a role in this one as well. I am actually anxious now to get my hands on the next book and learn more about the Prentice brothers. This one however was Tate’s story. We find Kelly back at home in Sweet Ridge, Texas after a pretty brutal breakup. She is successful with her floral shop and is now roped into taking care of the local festival as well. There she meets Tate. These two have a special spark up front but both have struggles that will or do make a new relationship difficult. This was definitely a slow burn type read and things moved at a comfortable and believable pace. I enjoyed escaping to the idyllic town of Sweet Ridge as well and I am so excited to go back for book two.
One Hot Texas Summer
The Prentice Brothers
of Sweet Ridge
Book 1
By Nicole Flockton
One budding romance, two beautiful people.
Kelly Turner is a small town Florist. A job she absolutely loves. Not to mention, she loves working side by side with her mother. Bring in the festival, bring on the planning. In walks the Town player? Tate Prentice loves working on his peach farm. It’s his life and love, always doing his very best. Bring in Tyler, Tate’s older brother, pure trouble? He has offered up the peach farm for the festival as an add on. Only problem is he forgot to ask. So can these two unlikely people get this to work out? Can they come together and pull it off?
Nicole Flockton has written this sweet story of young budding love. Her story shares the real life events and two busy, unlikely people working together. I love her writing style, clean and carefree. Her characters, Kelly and Tate, bring the book to life. Nicole Flockton is an author you can depend on. She was new to me, but you can bet, I will be looking for more. Well Done Nicole Flockton!!
One Hot Texas Summer (Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge #1) by Nicole Flockton is a quick read and a good start to the series. I enjoyed the characters but at times I wanted to smack Tate because of frustration. The relationship is tense at times and I felt there could have been a bit more lightness and witty banter to loosen things up a bit and the age difference didn’t help. Having said all that, it is a sweet romance and the story came together nicely as trust and love came into the equation.
I enjoyed this book. This is a shorter romance story that is engaging and kept me turning pages to the end. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites of her yet. I had no issues connecting with the characters as they brought the story to life. They made the story easy to read. This is a story about Kelly and Tate. Kelly has not had the best relationships in the past and now she is being forced to work with the town’s player. Will she give him a chance? Will she see who he really is? I enjoyed watching these two grow throughout the book and their chemistry mixes well. I highly recommend this book. It is a great story to heat up anyone’s day.
This was the first book that I have read by this author and I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to reading more. This was a fun book to get into and it was a pretty quick read for me.
I fell in love with the idea of Kelly and Tate from page one. Kelly has been cheated on in the past, which makes her very skeptical. Tate has never been one to be monogamous. So when they come together to plan a festival, they can really get to know each other.
I loved the flow of this book and I can not was to see what happens next in Sweet Ridge.
This was a good enjoyable read. It is set in a small town and I’m a sucker for a small town romance. I love that Kelly is a florist. That job always fascinates me. Tate, he comes off grumpy and I wasn’t so sure about him in the very beginning. Then we get to know him and it’s the little things you have to pay attention to. There is a downfall to small towns the gossip that’s going to come to play with Tate and Kelly. You can tell right off the bat Tate and Kelly have sparks. I enjoyed watching them plan the festival. It was playful and fun. Tate and Kelly are going to have their hurdles, but they have to get out of their own way first. Good read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
‘One Hot Texas Summer’ begins ‘The Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge’ series with a couple who really need to see beyond the surface of each other, down into the person they are at the core – then they just might find the perfect romance for a lifetime.
Kelly has her own ideas about Tate Prentice, and few are good ones. Sure, he’s attractive enough (ok, totally hot) but she’s done the cheating, player ex and never going there again. All she can see, at first, is Tate’s supposed reputation. It’s only when she’d been volunteered for the festival and had to work closely with the man that she started to question what she thought she ‘knew’ about him. Tate already has a full plate and being the site for the local festival isn’t on his most wanted to-do list, but it does put him in close contact with Kelly, a woman he’s attracted to even though he’s aware of her opinion of him. Now comes the hard part – show her his true self and change her mind about him so they can plan a future together.
I enjoyed ‘One Hot Texas Summer’, and it was a great kickoff for the series which means now I need to know more about the other people we met in Kelly and Tate’s story. I wish there had been more laughter for this couple, I felt they really needed to lighten up on occasion but that’s me thinking out loud and not a criticism. In all, I had a good time and I’m definitely looking forward to more stories in Sweet Ridge. There is a connection to a previous series, ‘Sweet Texas Secrets’ – you’ll see mention of some characters from that series. Do you have to back and read it to enjoy this one? No, but it’s also a very good series that you might enjoy and want to check out soon.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I give this 5 stars but I am unable to save the stars in Bookbub.
I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This was a sweet romance taking place in Sweet Ridge, Texas. We had recently met some of the characters in this book in the series, Sweet Texas Secrets. In this book, in preparation for the upcoming town festival, Kelly is asked by the committee head to work on a second location, at the Prentice Peach Farm with the owner’s son Tate. Kelly returned to town to open up a florist shop. She has seen Tate around town and thinks he’s a player. She also feels an attraction that she fights since he’s younger than her and she believes him to be a man whore.
Tate’s dad is in the rehab center recovering from a stroke. His one brother is a baseball player who is never in town and the other is trying to open his own winery at the family land. Tate finds out his brother offered the farm for the satellite festival location and he isn’t happy. This means more work for him at the same time as the harvest of the peaches. Tate and Kelly start working on the plans for the festival and spend a lot of time together. He realizes he has feelings for her but isn’t sure how best to proceed. The two have their ups and downs in the friendship/relationship, creating angst and suspense.
This was an enjoyable book to read and I found Kelly and Tate to be wonderful characters. I liked that Macy, Charlotte, Gavin and Gage Cooper were part of this story. I can see the future books in this series will be about Tate’s two brothers. This was a feel good book that I’m happy to give 5 stars and recommend.
One Hot Texas Summer is the first book in Nicole Flockton’s new series the Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge. This Texas romance has very loose ties to Sweet Texas Fire. It is not enough to need to have read that book first but the main characters are mentioned in the very beginning of One Hot Texas Summer being friends of main character Kelly Turner.
Tate Prentice falls victim to the small town gossip mill not one time but twice in this story. Living in a small town for forty years I could understand how the talk may be gone but not forgotten. First he is seen as a player, but really there is little evidence of that. Then a big deal is made out of his being 5 years younger than his love interest, florist Kelly Turner. That is not a major age difference but I can hear some saying here in my town, “Well, he was in middle school when she was in high school, don’t you know.” Small town life can be wonderful but it can also be petty. Ms. Flockton nailed it in this story. Kelly also falls victim, not because it is so much about her but because she listens to it. Thinking the worst. Turns out Tate is a hard worker, great son and brother. A catch for anyone. Enjoyable story while still being realistic.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

She’s been fooled before by sweet words and hot kisses

After being burned once by a serial cheater, her inconvenient attraction toward Tate needs to be nipped in the bud.

The more time Kelly spends with Tate, the more she sees the man behind the reputation. Can she trust her instincts, or will her heart be broken once again?
This is Kelly Turner and Tate Prentice’s story.
Kelly Turner had a nice buzz going on, and it wasn’t from the alcohol she’d consumed. No, the pleasant feeling flowing through her was from the company she was keeping. Macy and Charlotte Cooper were so much fun. Gage, Charlotte’s husband, had greeted them at Silver Spurs when they’d arrived, wrapping his arms around his wife and kissing her so passionately, Kelly had blushed on their behalf. He’d then proceeded to take their daughter so Charlotte could enjoy her lunch. Without a doubt, if Gavin had been there, he would’ve kissed Macy just as passionately.
“Before I could stop her, Oil Slick jumped on the kitchen counter and proceed to swipe the piece of cooked chicken I’d taken out to cut up for my salad. When I complained to Gage, he just picked up the cat and crooned that his precious Oil Slick would never do anything like that.”
Kelly laughed. “I still can’t get my head around Gage Cooper being owned by a cat.
A chair scraped over the floor and Kelly looked to her right. She should have controlled the urge. Tate Prentice had walked in and was sitting down at the table with his brother. He took off his cowboy hat and ran his fingers through his brown hair, giving it the just-out-of-bed look instead of the flatness from wearing his hat. Tate chose that moment to look over at her, and his eyes widened with shock at seeing her. He nodded and just the corners of his mouth quirked up and dammit, her heart gave a little flutter at the gesture.
With a concentrated effort she returned his smile and then turned back to look at her friends. Both had sly little grins on their faces.
Now would be the perfect time for a sinkhole to open up beneath her chair and suck her down. No way was she going to be able to get away by answering her friends with a vague response.
One Hot Texas Summer by Nicole Flockton is a 3 star book.

This is a well written book that did engage me but and this is a big but I got fed up of how everyone locked on about the age difference it should have been mentioned and then left alone instead of becoming the focus that it was.
Tate Prentice is the youngest of the Prentice boys and has a reputation as a player and that must be true because he orders a floral arrangement from Kelly Turner florist business every single week. He is the one caring for the family peach farm as his other two brothers are tied up with their own affairs he worked with his dad who had a stroke and is now in a home (hint this has something to do with the flowers) Now the two of them will b working together on the foundation day festival Can a playboy and a woman who not only is older but is damaged by a past relationship actually admit what is growing between them You will have to read to see
Ok, I dove into Nicole’s book Sweet Texas Fire–which was part of the Sweet Texas Secrets trilogy with Monica Tillery and Robyn Neely (a new fave author as well). I loved the Cooper Brothers and their stories (and I loved that Robyn did callbacks to Sweet Ridge in her Bachelor’s of Buttermilk Falls series). Well, Nicole has spun off from that series to introduce us to the Prentice Brothers (also residents of Sweet Ridge, which I seriously want to visit). The first book is about Tate Prentice, who is trying desperately to keep his family’s peach orchard business afloat while taking care of his father who is recovering from a stroke. He’s not getting any help from his brothers–one is off playing baseball and the other is more interested in getting his wine label off the ground.
If all of this weren’t bad enough, he’s been volunteered to help host the town’s annual festival. At his orchard. During peach picking season. He’s forced to team up with local florist Kelly Turner, who doesn’t particularly like him or his reputation as the town playboy.
Their banter, bickering and bonding is a lot of fun. Loved this book. Can’t wait to read the other brothers’ stories!
This is the perfect summer read
Kelly and Tates story made me feel all the feels. The writing is good. It flowed really well. And if there were any typos I didn’t notice. I’ll even admit that I almost shed a couple tears when it came to Trenton’s part. It was so heartwarming to see how he was with Tate. With everything they’re going through, I felt for them both. And when he was giving Tate advice about going steady, I about died.
I literally turned to my husband and asked if he would go steady with me. But of course I didn’t get the reaction I was hoping forOh well, I’ll just leave that to my books.
Anyhoo, if you’ve read the Sweet Texas Secrets Series than you’ll know who Kellys BFF’s are. We get to catch up with Macy and Charlotte and go back to Sweet Ridge, Texas which I was excited about. This series has the same feel as Kelly and Tates book so I totally recommend checking them out. But you don’t have to read them first if you want to start with this one. There’s no spoilers except that there all happy in love.
Now, I’m going to wait here (not-so-patiently) for the next book
Happy Reading Everyone
I really enjoyed reading this new book series surrounding The Prentice brother’s and their family Peach farm.Tate is the youngest of the bunch and has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders after his father suffers a stroke and he has to take over the business while his dad is recuperating,if that’s not enough the town’s Founder’s day festival is coming up and his farm is part of the festivities.Go pick this one up and see what happens next.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first time reading this author and I felt that it was written well but I had issues with some of the characters actions and one of the major plot points. It’s a book series taking place in a small town in Texas very close to Houston and is about three brothers, Tate, Trey and Tyler and their dad is named Trenton. While it’s a cute premise with all the T names, it got a little confusing for me.
This book is about the youngest Tate. He has the hots for florist Kelly who is 5 years older than him. This was one of the plot points I did not like. Five years is not a big deal at 30 and 35 yet every single character in the book talks about the age difference. Typically I don’t like younger leading man books but 5 years is not a big deal to me, however in this town EVERYONE commented on it. EVERYONE! Even when Kelly gets angry at Tate she uses his age as an excuse.
The I love you’s, when said felt very unrealistic and sorta like I am angry but I love you. I truly did not see this couple lasting longer than a few months. They really have some BIG communication issues and I felt they jumped into love, going steady and engagement way too fast especially after such a big fight.
Tate is also described as a playboy in this story and I totally did not see that at all. In fact we never see any exes of his at all and we do see Kelly’s slimy ex.
I did finish this story though midway I lost patience with the storyline. My biggest issue was how everyone harped on the age yet honestly Tate seemed the most mature one next to Kelly’s mom.
All that said I did not love this story but its also a new author for me. The writing moved pretty fast and it was edited well. For me it boiled down to not liking the characters in this small town. The story really could have used some extra humor as Kelly and Tate are working on a festival and planning it, yet it’s a very intense set of characters and they don’t really laugh much. I understood Tate as he has a lot on his plate but Kelly was very tense and serious.
Love in a peach orchard
Kelly Turner is a florist in Sweet Ridge, Texas. She grew up there and went away for college but came back after a relationship gone bad. She took over the local florist shop and has turned it into a successful business. She is also in charge of the local festival after being “volunteered” into the position. This year, the festival has two locations – one in town and the second one is out at a local peach orchard.
Tate Prentice took over the running of the family orchard when his father fell ill. His older brother is off doing his own thing. His younger brother has set up a winery on some of the property and is trying to get it off the ground. And not at all helpful or offering up his help with the orchard or their father. Tate has the pressure of everything on him or that is how it feels to him. So when he finds out his younger brother has volunteered the orchard, during the height of harvest season, as the second location for the festival, Tate kind of lost it. He is feeling like the weight of the world has fallen on him.
There is a spark between Kelly and Tate when they meet. But Kelly has some serious hangups from her previous relationship plus Tate is a few years younger than her and that is an issue for her as well. Tate feels overwhelmed and isn’t sure he wants a relationship period. But the sparks are greater than their issues.
The book moves along at a nice pace and the story line is wonderful. The issues confronted by Tate and Kelly are common in many relationships. It is also nice to be back in the new town created by Ms. Flockton in her previous series, Sweet Texas Secrets. Some of the characters in this book are visitors from the previous series. Although this book can be read as a stand alone. And it is worth a read.
The only thing I didn’t like in this book was Tate at times acting like a sulky child. But that is common in some men when they don’t like how things are going and don’t want to talk about feelings.
I did receive a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
Kelly Turner is home in Sweet Ridge, Texas. She has opened her own florist shop called This Bud’s For You after escaping a bad breakup and a very boring accounting job in Houston. She is happy to be close to her Mom’s home and her friends, Macy and Charlotte Cooper. Now Macy has her talked into managing a satellite site for the town’s annual Founder’s Day Festival. Kelly has been doing arrangements and decorating for the event but is reluctant to add to her duties. Macy explained that the satellite site would be at Prentice Peach Farm. What? Where? The peach farm being run by Tate Prentice? The Tate Prentice she has been dreaming about? Whoa! That’s a different story. This will give her a chance to get to know Tate and find out if he really is a player as rumor has it. Why else would he be stopping in her shop weekly and purchasing flowers if not for women he is dating? Maybe she should just forget about anything to do with Tate. Having trouble fighting the attraction though.
Tate Prentice is the youngest of three boys. Their mother died when Tate was fifteen and the family just hasn’t been the same since. Tate’s oldest brother, Trey is off playing baseball after being drafted by a New York team. His other brother, Tyler is too busy with his grape vines and winery and that leaves him to manage the peach farm. He loves what he does and enjoyed working with his dad until his dad had a stroke. He visits him in the rehab center weekly and keeps him up to date on the peach farm. He takes floral arrangements to the center when he goes to visit his dad because he like to know his gift will make the recipient smile. The center chooses the recipient and that works out well. The bonus to this is getting to see Kelly Turner who makes up the lovely floral arrangements. She is one beautiful woman and boy is he attracted to her. Will she be interested in him?
One Hot Texas Summer by Nicole Flockton is the first book in The Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge series. This is an excellent introduction to the Prentice brothers. The youngest of the brothers, Tate is the hero of this book and we get a decent introduction to Tyler. For me, so far, Trey is a mystery. I liked the way Kelly and Tate get together in this book. They are both very caring characters. Tate treats Kelly like a princess and I loved their Happily Ever After. I am looking forward to book #2, Falling for the Texan, Tyler’s book.
The start of this new series gives us the youngest of the Prentice brothers, Tate, and local florist, Kelly Turner.
Kelly moved back to her hometown after her father died to be closer to her mom. She’s not interested in a relationship after the disaster of her last one.
Tate took over managing his family’s peach farm after his father, Trenton, had a stroke. In this small town he’s considered a player. Because of that, Kelly always wonders for whom are the flowers he purchases on a weekly basis.
When a mutual friend puts them together to work a festival, a relationship of sorts starts. But the age difference is a big obstacle for Kelly.
I have to confess that neither the storyline or the characters engaged me. I kept hoping that they would. I thought that the main concern of everyone was the age difference and instead of it being just a distant issue, it because THE issue. As much as Tate was said to be a player and young, he was mature and no evidence of being a player.
Still, I will give book 2 of the series a chance.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Sweet and romantic.
This was a fun book about a florist, Kelly, who meets Tate, who runs his family’s peach farm after his father has a stroke, when he starts buying flower arrangements every week from Kelly’s shop. The reason Tate buys the flowers will surprise you. Then, Kelly and Tate are thrown together to work on their town’s founders day festival. As they work together, things start to heat up even though Kelly was afraid to get involved with another man, as her last relationship was such a disaster. Plus, Tate is younger than she is and she is worried what the gossipmongers in town will say. But when Kelly decides to follow her heart, there is no holding her back.
This is a fun new start of a new series and I can’t wait to learn more about Tate’s brothers and the women they will meet. If you like small town romances with characters that have strong family ties and close friendships, you will enjoy this book.
This book has it all: warring brothers, a recovering father, a reformed playboy, and a sweet romance. You will find yourself engaged in the story of Kelly and Tate and all that goes on around them as they chart their way together.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
