Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

I love all her books! Easy to read, fast moving and hilarious!
The series gets funnier, as Stephanie gets into more trouble.
Love this whole series, Stephanie Plum never has a dull moment.
Fun, easy read.
Recommend the whole series. She just had #26 published. Great reading.
Love all of the Stephanie Plum series!!! They are laugh out loud books!
Fun
The Stephanie’s Plum series is light and fun. If you are a serious mystery fan or want nonstop action, then this series is not for you because they are amusing comedy mysteries where half the fun revolves around the main character’s ineptness and being a magnet for nutty people and crazy situations.
This is the one that began the phenomenon and made Janet Evanovich a household name! The series that follows is just as funny as this first look at Stephanie Plum and her crazy crew.
It’s not Stephanie’s fault that she was fired at the lingerie plant and left with no other employment choices other than to work at her slimy cousin Vinnie’s bailsbond business. She might be a little responsible for allowing Lulu to join her at the hip. Lulu is a treasure I refuse to divulge further because the reader should have the fabulous delight in meeting her.
If you are one of the few readers who has never jumped into the world of Stephanie, I urge you to take the plunge! You can thank me later.
I always like her books
A great introduction to Janet Evanovich. Got me hooked on the Stephanie Plum series. Don’t watch the movie… Read the book. A really fun read.
Fun, hysterical and a joy to read.
Love all of her books
Read every book she has written they are all good.
Stephanie Plum is a fun series to read. The characters, especially the grandmother, are somewhat stereotypical and make the story amusing.
I love the fact that I am just now reading this book, even though it was published in the 90’s. Talk about a nostalgic read! Remembering times before everyone had a cell phone, before GPS or Google Maps. It was great!
This was such an entertaining book! It kept me guessing and giggling. The only irk was that I felt the main character, Stephanie, had the naivety of a young adult, not a 30 year old. Therefore there were a few scenes where I was pulling some serious eye rolls and literally saying WTH out loud. This did get better toward the end and it didn’t stop me from immensely enjoying this book. I look forward to continuing this series!
Janet evanovich my no1 author
A fun, light read with plenty of humorous moments. I read most of the series.
Lol novel that was first in this great series
I have been a fan since this first book. Other writers have tried to copy her style but not as well. Some even got too cutie!
