Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

All of her series is enertaining
This was one of the first books I read by this author and never missed one of her subsequent publications. This series is a must-read for anyone interested in fun who-done-it novels. You’ll fall in love with the characters and you will want to come back for more.
I thought it was John Grishams greatest book! I’ve read it several times.
Great beach read
Pee your pants funny!!!
StephaniePlum is a must for anyone who likes detective procedurals with a goofy twist.Evanovich has created a character so self-knowing, yet still so inept at keeping her life together …. at the same time as she can solve the mystery, sometimes by accident, but mostly by doggedly pursuing her leads, to the annoyance of many she encounters. I recommend reading them all in order. The realistic family relationships are laugh out loud funny.
Great series!
A light read, with a female lead character involved in all kinds of crazy scenarios and a chaotic love life. There was a movie made with Katherine Heigle as Stephanie Plum, but it was not nearly as good as the book or the series.
Great book kept rereading it.
This book is a must read. I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read the rest in the series.
I laughed so hard reading this book. It’s fun and funny and makes you happy you read it. I love this series and the author’s zany plotlines. Super fun!
One of the best series EVER!
I have read 22 of the Stephanie Plum books and they are all wonderful reads. The characters are entertaining and the stories are hilarious. Each book is naked you rush to the next one.
This book was the first of the series and was a perfect escape for me. It was a relaxing and funny book to read. I love the characters and their sexual tension between them.
Laugh out loud mystery!
Love the whole series.
OMG! I found myself by turns laughing out loud and feeling frightened and repulsed by certain characters. So well drawn. If you know Jersey at all, it will feel like a bit of home! But well entertaining!
I’ve read everything Janet E has written. She is witty and makes entertainment a priority in her characters and stories.
Janet Evanovich is an excellent writer. It is a fun, page-turner and has absolutely hysterical characters. Definitely worth getting the whole series.
These characters are like nothing I’ve read before. The author made me care about every character. She can make you believe that a most ridiculous situation is quite plausible.
