Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

Laugh out loud funny! Don’t read on a crowded airplane – you won’t be able to stop yourself from laughing!!
Love Stephanie and all the characters. Each is a story by themselve
This is a good funny series to get into… however by the time I hit book 17… it became a bit predictable!
I did enjoy every book until then!
I really love the plum series!
Made me laugh out loud.
A desperate Stephanie Plum takes a job as a bounty hunter for her cousin. And her first job? Tracking down her former high school boyfriend turned cop. A bit raunchy at times, but a fast paced and humorous series opener.
The Stephanie Plum series is my guilty pleasure. Not sure how she gets into so much trouble but the characters are hysterical. Reminds me of the old black and white movies. Hard core topics with humor and romance. There are scenes in some of the books that I can recall and still laugh out loud. Great entertainment and a great escape when life gets too serious.
This book was fun to read, so much so that I was addicted to the whole series. Couldn’t wait for the next one to come out.
One of the many numbered books and probably one of the best!
I would not only recomend this book, but I would recomend this whole series!
Stephanie is a very well developed character. I’ve fallen in love with Janet’s style of writing and find that I have to warn people around me as I often react out loud to what the characters do and say.
The Stephanie Plum series is wild and lots of fun. Want some release-from-my-crazy-life or vacation fun reading? Start with “One for the Money” and keep going with this series, currently at #24! Grandma Mazur is a hoot.
Good for some out-loud laughs. Careful where you are when reading the beginning novels in this series.
This is the first in a series I found it entertaining and kind of funny I went onto read several of the others in a Siri it’s a good easy read would be a good one to read on the beach
Love this book
This started my obsession with this series! Love it! Can’t go wrong, can’t put it down! Love the main characters, how they fit together, how their stories intertwine, love everything about it!
I liked this book and the series it launched, but ultimately the language was too objectionable for me to continue. If you don’t mind that, it’s a fun book!
First Stephanie Plum book.. I love the characters and the personalities. Hooked me
This first book was good but after awhile she gets repetitive
Had me laughing all the time. Couldn’t wait for her next book!
