Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

If you like some laughs with your action, Stephanie Plum delivers.
Pure gold in humor! 4 unforgettable characters: Stephanie Plum, Joe Morelli, Ranger and Grandma Mazur. Let’s do a lil’ recap:
Stephanie: Your everyday girl… with great humor, a bit of sass, lots of determination and an inability to know her limits. But each and every time you root for her to win!
Joe: Honest. Smart. Good-looking. Apparently great in bed. Knows his food. Wants to make Stephanie happy. But knows his limits.
Ranger: Everyone’s secret freebie. Apparently a god. Attitude that won’t quit but turns you on at the same time. Always finds you just in time, that is, before you get yourself into too much trouble.
Grandma: OMG, can you be any funnier? She has a gun. And she shoots it often. But she’s whacked out most of the time. I NEED to meet her.
So… 20-something books to go in the series, but this first one will hook you right away. I need to keep on reading.
I love Janet Evanavich Stephanie Plums novels.I didn’t know what to expect from her first novel but I haven’t missed one since. This one gives you an insight into who Stephanie Plum is and you will fall in love with her like I did…
fun!
I have loved all of her books. I have used Ranger as my password and I am sure I would swoon if I ever met him. I am saved by the fact that he is fictional. There are no explicit sexual scenes and reading it still leaves me hot and bothered while I am laughing at the same time. Quixotic is the word that best describes Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum. I don’t live in the hood however, I have a friend who did and he says that it is exactly how it is described in the books.
Just like a good potato chip. You can’t eat just one and it’s hard to put the bag down. Fast paced read with laugh out loud story & characters, but still a good case to solve. I have read all the books in this series and have pre-ordered the next one. I let my daughters read this book after me and now when I get a new one I have to hide it until I have finished it because if I put it down they take it. It is a friendly battle between the 3 of us to get it away from each other.
If you’re looking for a funny as hell, well-plotted, mystery with romance, look no further than One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. It’s about a down on her luck girl, Stephanie Plum, who turns bounty hunter to make rent. One of her first bounties is old flame Joe Morelli, a cop on the run. Stephanie Plum has a hilarious family, good for many laughs, and the heat between her and fellow bounty hunter Ranger, and cop Morelli is definitely swoon worthy. I read the series up to book 16 (many years ago) and recently picked up number 1 again because I wanted a light fun read. I wasn’t disappointed. It was as I remembered. A great, lighthearted romp. While I grew to find the series rather annoying somewhere around #10–the characters didn’t evolve and it started to seem like Evanovich was phoning things in–the first books in the series are incredibly entertaining. I remember flying through books 1 through 6 in 2 weeks time and then marking my calendar for the next in the series. If you haven’t yet checked out the series, I heartily recommend books 1 – 9!
This book was full of laugh out loud humor while Stephanie Plum gets into the bounty hunter business. Great story, full of comical errors. It’s a light read, but has plenty of story to follow.
Janet Evanovich is a pure delight and if for some reason you’ve missed this series, add it immediately to your TBR pile! A total joy!
Hahaha, I think I’ve read the first ten books from this series about 5-6 times, and each time I loved them! This book is definitely what you need to grab if you’re feeling blue and need a pick-me-up or just want to read something incredibly funny. Stephanie’s family is a hoot, especially her Grandma and you’ll find yourself involuntarily laughing out loud regardless of where you’re reading this book. One of my favorite books! Go for it! You won’t regret it.
I LOVE ALL THE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES!! I have shared these books with my mother and she LOVED THEM ALSO! Stephanie and Lula remind me of MY relationship with my BFF, we may not always agree with each others methods of getting a job done BUT I WILL HAVE YOUR BACK!! Tons of funny moments, witty comments, just great books!
This series will have you laughing out loud.
I have read most of this Authors books. Each one is a great read. Makes you laugh out loud.
Light reading that is fun.
I love this series
The first in the Stephanie Plum series and had me laughing out loud! The characters are easy to fall in love with and rooting for the good guys is so very satisfying!
the beginning and what a way to start this series ,so fun
The book that started the Stephanie Plum fan club! She’s cute, she’s lol funny and she brings “the berg” to life. With a cast of characters that keep you laughing and guessing in equal measure, non-stop action and just the right amount of suspense, this book is a winner!
The mis-adventures of a woman who needs to pay her bills takes a job at her cousin’s bail bond office to bring in people who miss their court dates and need to re-post bail. The characters she works with, comes across, and in her own family and trouble she gets herself in and out of. Laugh out loud funny.
I loved this series
