Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

I love the whole series.
I absolutely love these novels – the characters are hilarious and lovable even though they are so far from perfect. My family marvel that I sit laughing hysterically with tears streaming down my face at a book. Truly a brilliant writer and story teller. Highly recommended to anybody for a light and very entertaining read!
This is the book that started an obsession. One of the best book series ever for pure fun and enjoyment.
This is a laugh out loud kind of book. Loved it and the others in the series.
I’ve read the entire series. SP is so down to earth & real you empathize with
her almost from the beginning.
I have read all her books and loved them
Janet Evanovich is the best
Laugh out loud funny
The early books in the Stephanie Plum series are the best — so fresh and laugh-out-loud hysterically funny. This is the first book in the series. Enjoy!!
Great characters and never a dull moment.
I love anything Janet Evanovich writes and would recommend any of her books if you’re looking for a fast moving tale that will keep you in stitches. I always have at least one moment in her books where I’m laughing so hard I can’t breathe.
Janet Evanovich’s books have improved as she wrote into her series. The first one was good, but those that came after are much better. I love the character of the grandmother. These books have some humor in them and often made me laugh out loud, to the consternation of those around me.
Dude but not crude and definitely not a prude, Stephany Plum is the one we don’t want to run from.
From beginning to end you will be trapped in this NJ reality.
All of these books are a fun read
I love this series. I didn’t start the series in order. But once I was a few books into the series, I located One for the Money. It helped answer some of my questions. It wasn’t my favorite in the series but it was more because the things that happened to Lula was upsetting. That being said, it strengths your understanding in Stephanie and Lula’s odd but hilarious friendship and how they became partners of sorts. They bubble through their bond captures and almost always get their guy much to the amazement of everyone around them. I do recommend reading this series in order, as there is a lot of references to past books in her series. Although this was the hardest to read for me, I truly enjoyed it. My suggestion is to put some time aside and start reading it, once you start you won’t want to put it down as you laugh your way through these light reads. I always end the books impatiently waiting to start the next in the series.
I laughed out loud as I read this book. I also read passages to my husband because I thought they were so funny. This is one of the best laughter inducing books I have read.
This book made me a Janet Evanovich addict. Stephanie Plum will keep you laughing and guessing to the end. Every time I see that there’s a new book in the series I can’t wait to read it or listen to the fabulous audio versions.
The first of one of my favorite series
Entertaining read. Not a big intellectual challenge, but a very enjoyable, light read. Some parts are laugh-out-loud funny.
I read this series through book I think 10 or 11 one summer and it was so great. It was laugh out loud funny!
