Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

Great Fun Read!
If only the last few books were as well written as this one. The early Stephanie Plum stories are fun reading.
This book covered everything–a little love, a lot of things that make you laugh and a good book, wondering how the end would turn out.
5 stars!
Love Stephanie Plum!
This is such a great book!! Love everything about Stephanie!
great series
I’ve read almost all of the Stephanie Plum series of books, and love them all. Some of the later books, in the teens, are better than the first, but you have to start at the beginning! Love the characters, the writing, the plot and story telling, all great!
I loved all her episodes
I read all of the Stephanie Plum novels that were available one summer. I really enjoying seeing what these characters are up to! The movie sucked!!!
The characters kept me laughing throughout the book….great read!
I loved this book!! I have read, most of the rest of the series to…You will be hooked after this one.
Movie is good too..
Fun, easy read
I have read all the books in this series. Have the first movie also. Even had my mom read all of them.
Janet Evanovich taught me that I liked… no, that I LOVED funny in my reading material. Before Janet and Carl Hiaasen I read the most depressing things. And thus wrote nothing but the most depressing fiction. So I owe her a debt of gratitude. One for the Money, the first of her—what? 21 Stephanie Plum novels?—is a comic/mystery/thriller gem. From how she became a bounty hunter—laid off as a lingerie buyer, car repossessed, blackmailing her slimy cousin Vinnie for the job. Pure gold. And then there’s her hatred/attraction to Joe Morelli, the bad boy who took her virginity behind the eclaire case, never called, that she ran over with her father’s car, and is now a disgraced cop hiding from the authorities, and Stephanie is going to try and catch him. Oh, it’s so damn sexy. And then there is LULA! No actress alive would be able to play Lula. She is truly one of a kind. Run, don’t walk, and read One for the Money.– Alice Bello is the author of Hate Him XOXO and Better off Dead.
So much fun to read!
I can’t remember when I laughed so hard.
I can remember sitting on bed reading Janet Evanovich for the first time. Specifically her Stephanie Plum character. I laughed out loud, to the point of tears, nearly rolling on the floor. If you haven’t met this fantastic author you are in for such a treat.I dare you to read about Grandma Mazur, and not just dissolve in laughter. These books are character driven and I do mean “character”. They are also so steamy, they fog the windows. Get ready for the roller coaster.
Love this series!!!!!
