Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

Funny lady bounty hunter story.
Stephanie Plums first caper hilarious
Who doesn’t love Stephanie Plum? She’s like the INspector Clusseau of the bounty hunters!
As a result of this book, I read the other 26 books in the series. This one is hilarious!!
I read the first 18 or so books in this series and then stopped. Something changed and alot of things didn’t. It was the same old story about Stephanie loving whatever her boyfriends name is but also having the hots for Ranger, blah, blah, blah. The last book that I read was much shorter than the previous books and seemed like it was probably just slapped together to get something published without regard for the readers who had stuck with the series so long.
great start to a long series.
You will love this book.
This is the book that started the Stephanie Plum series. It was excellent, but Evanovitch stopped writing these books at about book 16. The editor also changed out and several mistakes were made which made the change in authors obvious. The early books, before about book 16, were well worth their cost. After 16, not so much. The rating suffers for this.
It’s a funny book overall. It was a great start to the Stephanie Plum series. Later books in the series are better but it is best to start here and get background on the major players. My one true dislike was the rape scene. I personally don’t want them in my fiction.
These books are kind of dumb. But in the best way. They are an escape, and I love every character.
Keep reading the series, after this one, they get funny! Light entertainment!
Highly entertaining with an engaging character that is completely relatable! Easy and light reads, and looking forward to reading more from this series.
Hilarious
Have I read this book? About a billion times! I have all of the number series and reread them all beginning with this #1 every year at Christmas. They never fail to have me laughing.
Its Stephanie Plum, what’s not to love
I love the Stephanie Plum series — all 25 books I’ve read, plus the 4 novellas and even the “Wicked …” series that are combined in the novellas. This is a very enjoyable series. They are quick reads, but packed full of fun mischief and memorable characters.
If you are just venturing into the series, keep reading. The books continue to evolve and improve.
The first few books in this series were funny, lengthy, and highly entertaining. Then the author apparently ran out of ideas because the books get shorter, more redundant, and the characters never grow. They just get annoying. So read this first one and enjoy
I’ve followed the series and loved them all. Not sure how younger readers will accept detective work pre cell phones and computers!
Such a fun book.
I have read all of her books in this series. Always funny and her characters are the best!
