Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

Who knew this would be the start of something amazing!! Loved pretty much all of the characters. Very well written by an author who knows what she is doing. Twenty some odd books later time for a change. But the first TEN are really good.
Great series to read. Very entertaining.
Nice to go back and read book #1 in a long series. Janet E never fails to entertain!
Love all this series. I could read them over and over again. Stephanie and Lula are a great combo!
What a wonderful. Laugh out loud book, I love Stephanie, grandma Mazur and all the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone needing an uplift.
I love all of Janet’s books and even re-read them, which is not something I do with many books.
This was the first book in the Stefanie Plum series and the funniest. It was a fun, easy to read book and I often found myself laughing out loud. After reading it, I was hooked on the rest of the series.
Love the whole series. Waiting on the next one.
Love Stephanie Plum books!

Great book in a great series
If you need laugh and to get your mind off of things this is the perfect book
I loved this book and it’s characters. Stephanie is funny and unpredictable. Absolutely love Grandmom Mature .
Good author
I think that I have read all of this series. They are funny and the characters are amazing and quirky and continue with the same characters throughout. Hilarious!
Others may like this much better than I did. The story was fine, but the lead character is crass and that bothered me throughout the book. Just isn’t the right fit for me.
Highly recommended when you just need a break and a laugh.
A funny start to this series of books
Loved it. Read the whole series
This is the book that got me started–I love all of the Stephanie Plum books. I cannot ever remember reading a book that made me laugh out loud till I began reading Janet’s series. Great writer!
