Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

I love love every character! Each is uniquely developed to the perfect depth according to their story line and importance to the main plot. Not to mention the Janet’s dry humor actually made me laugh to myself as I turned page after page! I would recommend this book to everyone! Just do yourself a favor and don’t watch the movie…
So funny! I have all of them. My only complaint is that I can’t put them down, so I finish them too fast. Maybe time to re-read the series… You will NOT stop laughing!
Fun mystery
The first 3 books in this series are wildly entertaining
Absolutely hilarious, the story, the characters, everything!
My first by this author. I lived it and look forward to reading the entire series!
Love this series!
Hilarious. I love this whole series! Her humor is absolutely fantastic.
Stephanie Plum is here to stay, whether you want her or not.
Stephanie Plum is hilarious Characters are great.
I love this series and think to myself wouldn’t this make a great Amazon series? I never give away the story but must warn younger readers that there was a time (maybe when you were an infant) when people were not hooked up to the grand web and had to rely on their own brains to problem solve. The best way to read this series is in precise order because it is like a daily diary.
I’ve read the entire series and liked them all. But the first three are the funniest! Stephanie and her fixation on two hunky guys, her pal, Lula, grandma Mazur and all the other funny people, places and wild escapes make these books five stars
I use to work with people from NJ and some of characters reminded me of them. They were funny and great to work with.
This is the first in the Stephanie Plum series. I liked it enough to read sevral more in te number series, but not all of them yet.
I finally read the first one. I always wanted to know how Stephanie met Lulu. So good.
I have most of the Stephanie Plum series but evidently not the first book. It was so great meeting all the characters that I have come to love first appear in Stephanie’s life. Great book and a good read.
I love Janet Evonavich’s books . The characters are funny and it still has a mystery to it. Especially grandma!
