Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

A great start to the Stephanie Plum series, lots of action and lots of laughs
I read this years ago and what a hoot! I laughed till i cried, coughed and hacked thinking people around me thought i had lost my mind, it was worth it!
One For The Money is the first book in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. I’m a late newcomer and thoroughly enjoyed the book. Stephanie is introduced as an out of work individual groveling her cousin for a job. He hires her to find Joe Morelli, a former cop on the run for murder. From there Stephanie tries to figure out what to do in her new job. One of my favorite parts was her attacking the guy who took her virginity and then never called her. I think I’m going to really like this series. If you haven’t read any of her work you’re even slower than me and that’s saying something . . . check it out, a great read.
I love all the Stephanie Plum series.
Fun start to a fun series.
Such a fun book
The start of a fabulous series. I’ve read them all
The start of my favorite series of all time.
All the books in this series are laugh until you cry funny. Not great literature, but they are darn good fun.
I’ve read the whole series. They are so funny.. Laugh out loud funny, but still a mystery.
I always wait patiently for the Stephanie Plum mysteries to come out , but it is hard . This book was so funny and kept you in the edge of your chair
I love the series and this is the perfect start.
Janet is one of my favorite authors. Can’t put down her books once I start reading. Love this series.
I enjoyed it – but perhaps more because I live in NJ
I love these books, interesting story and hilarious characters
Janet Evanovich so much more than funny, witty, and entertaining! She can take a fairly ordinary meeting or activity, and make it so real yet hysterical that tears will roll down your cheeks!!! The lady is an artist with words!
First of the series. I’m up to 20 something. Must recommend as a cancer survivor x 2. If you want a good laugh and escape from the bad stuff, read this series.
