Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

Love most of her books
Read this when it first came out and am still following the series. This book started me on what has become a roller coaster ride, with Stephanie Plum, a sometimes zany cast of characters and fun stories over the years. Love these books, can’t wait for each one to come out. These are one of the very few series in which I buy the hardcovers.
The first six books in the Stephanie Plum series are absolutely excellent. Fun, silly, engaging, interesting, with great characters and great settings. I laugh out loud at One for the Money, and even enjoyed the movie based on it.
This series will hook you, her characters make you laugh out loud, and cry along with them. And good news, the series continues today with book #23. Enjoy!
Giggles
My favorite short reads, an afternoon or an evening, has to be any of the books in Janet Evanovich’s series about bail-bonds woman, Stephanie Plum!! The first is One For The Money, and then 21 more books in the hilarious life of Stephanie Plum. Oh my, you just can’t help but love her and the cast of characters which give her life so much trouble.
And Lula…I love Lula! My husband told me one time that he knew when I was reading about Stephanie Plum, because I laugh out loud! Now that is a compliment to the author 🙂
It wasn’t the exact same story line as every other book it seemed.
Loved this series. Happily read the first 10 or so and then it got kind of repetitive.
Loved It
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So funny, great characters, well written. I can’t wait to read book 2!!
There are some bad words, and some sexual scenes, nothing too graphic, but suggestive. Still I will be ready for book 2 tomorrow!
Loved the characters. Stephanie Plum is funny and quirky. And to make it even better this is the first of many Stephanie Plum books.
Gramma Mazur is a hoot!
Delightful characters. Funny.
Terrific characters , fun mysteries
Once I got into this series I could not stop. I took me awhile to get into One for the Money thought it was hokey but picked it up later and could not put down. All the series is hard to put down
Started this series years ago and remember thinking my impression of NJ was entirely related to Stephanie Plum! The early books in this series are all laugh out loud funny and I recommend them all, once we got to about 16 or so, meh,
Enjoyed the book very much. A hilarious read. A laugh out loud read!!!!
Love the Stephanie Plum book series.. Always fun and entertaining!
Love the mystery and humor!
When Stephanie Plum finds herself out of work and so broke that she has sold many of her household appliances to meet the rent, she blackmails her Uncle Vinnie into giving her a job as a bounty hunter for his bail bonding company. She decides to go for the big money and hunt for Joe Morelli, cop gone bad and alleged murderer and the man to whom she lost her virginity years ago. Talk about a complicated story – this is it.
