Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

I’ve read all of the Stephanie Plum books and am very happy that numbers never end…..
One of my favorite authors. Always fun to read.
I’ve been hooked on Janet Evanovichs’ books ever since reading this first one. If you haven’t read any of her 20+ books you should treat yourself to one today. Starting with ‘One for the Money’.
Stephanie Plum is a super cool character. She’s like any regular woman in the world, a fun personality shaped with a loving family, embarrassing moments and some bitter days. She has hit some hard times. She’s lost her job as a buyer of cheap lingerie, fallen behind on her bills and has had her beloved car repossessed.
This is a funny and light-hearted book with a likeable heroine who never loses track of her goal to earn 10,000 dollars as a bounty hunter. Too bad it´s an old ex-lover she has to find but then – she still has a bone to pick with him anyway….
Laughed all the way through it.
This is one of my favorite series. A new book release was known as “Janet” day in my household and it was pizza for dinner. I was not putting the book down to cook dinner. I have lent One for the Money to more people than I can count and every one went on the read the series.
What a wonderful series to start. Janet catches you with the very first book!
If you are down in the dumps–read this for some really good laughs. Warning do not read while eating, one may choke from laughter and food at the same time.
Start at the beginning of this series and you’ll never let up–am presently reading #25, Can’t believe there is anyone out there not familiar with Janet Evanovich or her unbelievable, always in some kind of fix, character Stephanie Plum. If you are one of the few who hasn’t kept up with this series, start now with ONE…
If you have never read this authors books, you are missing out.The first book I ever read of hers I was laughing so hard. She really entertains you and you can’t wait to read more.I hate it when it’s the end ,but then I can grab the next book, yeah.
I always enjoy her books!
Great start to a series that really slowed down as time and books progressed.
Janet Evanovich is always a fun read.
Enjoy this series.
Once you start, you can’t put it down. Highly recommended.
The first book in the Stephanie Plum series. Stephanie loses her job and begins a new career as a bondsman for her uncle. She goes after her former classmate, Joe Morreli, who is accused of a crime he didn’t commit. The reader is introduced to the Plum family as well as the people Stephanie works with, as well as Joe, one of Stephanie’s romantic interests. An entertaining read.
I love everything Janet Evonovich writes.
Great book.
This is the book that started the long, hysterical series of Stephanie Plum adventures; Grandma Mazur and her gun, Cousin Vince and the bail bond business, Joe the yummy cop and Ranger the hot hunky whatever. And don’t get me started with Lula. If you’ve never read one of these books, I envy you. Because you are in for the richest reading treats I know of. Enjoy.
The grandmother is just too funny!
