Watch out, world. Here comes Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie’s opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey. She’s a product of the “burg,” a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God … clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.
Now Stephanie’s all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad’s, doing her best to sever the world’s longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.
Out of work and out of money, with her Miata repossessed and her refrigerator empty, Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, fearless bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook.
Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli is also the irresistible macho pig who took Stephanie’s virginity at age sixteen and then wrote the details on the bathroom wall of Mario’s Sub Shop. There’s still powerful chemistry between these two, so the chase should be interesting.
It could also be extremely dangerous, especially when Stephanie encounters a heavyweight title contender who likes to play rough. Benito Ramirez is known for his brutality to women. At the very least, his obsession with Stephanie complicates her manhunt and brings terror and uncertainty into her life. At worst, it could lead to murder.
Witty, fresh, and full of surprises, One for the Money is among the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the season.

Great book!
I love Ms Evanovich’s books and was hooked by this first one. I think women find them more entertaining than men as there is some strictly women’s humor. This book and others keep my interest and read for hours.
The first dozen or so of this series of twenty-something books, are seriously laugh out loud funny. After that, they start to get predictable and a little redundant, but I’m still a loyal fan of Stephanie Plum, her whacked out family, sexy Ranger and all the other crazy characters alive and well in Trenton, NJ!
Janet Evanovich has a particular take on mysteries. Her main character is funny, earthy and forthright. I have read the whole series.
great funny book
Great read..
This is such a funny, wonderful series. It’s hard not to root for the protagonist, as she is an even everyday-woman with everyday problem (for the most part) plus a wacky family and friends that are full of hijinx. A great start to a great series.
Great book. Easy to read and entertaining
I’ve read every book in this series. Stephanie Plum is a fantastic character. Good to the end making you want to find a copy of the next book in the series.
I think this is the sort of book you should listen to while driving – sort of like watching a sitcom.
In order to follow the misadventures of Stephanie Plum, erstwhile lingerie seamstress and bounty hunter, one must know from where she starts. This is the place. Unforgetable characters and forgettable plots and twenty some more books to enjoy. Read this one then the others in any ofder. All are good summer or beach readings.
Fun read!
This is first in a fantastic series. I love Janet Evanovich! This is one of my favorite series.
One of my favorite books! Made me laugh out loud.
It’s the book that got me started. And I am still reading them.
Great first book in any series, laughed through the book at the antics of all its characters, especially Stephanie Plum and her new cohort Lula. Amazon sells the boxed set with the 1,2,3 titles. Highly recommend that as a start.
the first of a great series, each book gets better and better
Janet Evanovich is a highly entertaining author
and I have experienced several laugh out loud moments reading her books. One for the money is no exception. A hilarious foray into the world of bounty hunting.
