A chilling psychological thriller by a million-copy bestselling author.Who really killed Maisie Earnshaw?Within the walls of the high-security psychiatric facility, Crowmont Hospital, reside many violent offenders. To nurse Leah Smith, no matter what, all offenders are patients first and foremost. When Leah is appointed as a nurse to Isabel Fielding, she is determined to remain professional … nurse to Isabel Fielding, she is determined to remain professional despite the shocking crime Isabel allegedly committed in her past.
Years ago, six-year-old Maisie Earnshaw was found face down in a duck pond, her body mutilated. Isabel–at age fourteen, found covered in Maisie’s blood–was convicted of murder.
As Leah spends time with Isabel, she comes to know her as a young woman with a sweet, gentle nature, someone she could never see as a murderer. Leah begins to suspect members of the Fielding family of framing Isabel as a young girl, and she’s not the only one. True crime blogger James Gorden thinks Isabel is innocent too.
Is Leah allowing her own dark past to taint her judgement as she grows closer to her patient? Or has a young woman been unjustly robbed of her childhood?
Praise for the Isabel Fielding series:
“I can’t praise this book enough…it was one of the best books I’ve read this year!”
“Without giving too much away the characters had me fooled! Nothing is what it seems, you need to keep reading … just one more chapter…”
“One For Sorrow is such a fabulously dark and twisted read. I knew from the opening pages it was going to be good but by heck I didn’t forsee the twists and turns as they happened. It’s one of those stories that you will be constantly second-guessing and jumping at conclusions only to be totally wrong.”
“This dark, twisty psychological thriller was totally riveting.”

Not the kind of book I usually enjoy although I read the sequel. The characters are all deeply flawed and twisted in different ways.
Excellent but frightening.
Oh. My. Lord. Depressing? Yes. Gory? Absolutely. Tragic? Completely. Yet I was riveted and completely consumed. This one was off the wall insane and I loved almost every minute of it. Just bought the second book because I had to. People have reviewed asking how someone can write some of the sick scenes. I think the author did it for shock value. Shock me it did and I even had a nightmare last night. But damn the book was good.
Wow, I love this author’s work, both for YA and the darker for adults.
This book is about Leah, a psychiatric nurse who gets a job in a high-security hospital, where she meets Isabel.
The story centres on insanity and murder – who is guilty, who is crazy? There is the clever input from a blogger that further intrigues the plot, though it is told from the first-person narrative (which I particularly like).
The characters are perfect for the story and the setting brings its own mysterious atmosphere.
Very well-written and highly recommended. Edge of your seat stuff! More, please.
Awesome 5 stars
I have a love for dark, Gothic fiction and this story immediately intrigued me. If a story has misty moors and unusual characters and a twisty plot, I’m sold.
One For Sorrow immediately sweeps you onto the cold, lonely moors where Crowmont hospital stands and into a world of dark, gripping intrigue. Isabel Fielding is one of the most spellbinding characters you’ll ever meet in fiction, spending her days at Crowmont sketching intricate pictures of birds. Who killed little Maisie? Is psychiatric nurse Leah Smith heading into dangerous territory in her quest to discover the truth? An intense, gasp-out-loud story that will stay with you long after you read the last word!
What a bunch of twists and turns.
