The third book in the USA Today bestselling Carly Moore series by Denise Grover Swank.
The dead can’t speak
After months of living in the Smoky Mountains town of Drum, Tennessee, Carly knows firsthand the financial hardship the citizens face. Still, she can’t muster the same excitement as everyone else when town patriarch Bart Drummond breaks ground on his new resort that promises more jobs and … his new resort that promises more jobs and money.
But the project comes to a screeching halt when the construction crew unearths a grisly discovery—an unmarked grave. The discovery threatens Carly’s ex-boyfriend, when the authorities learn the body belongs to his old girlfriend who had supposedly left town…and Wyatt is suspect number one.
Carly’s sure Wyatt’s innocent, even if the rest of the town, and more importantly, the sheriff’s department, is ready to lock him up. Carly has moved on from Wyatt, but now he’s asking for her help to clear his name. In exchange, he’ll tell her what he knows about his father. Information that will help her bring Bart down.
But danger lurks around every corner, and as Carly puts her life on the line to help the man who betrayed her, she begins to question everything and everyone around her…especially Wyatt Drummond.

Carly is once again in the middle of an investigation. This time it’s trying to prove Wyatt is innocent of murder. Good story line and flow. Love her and Marco’s relationship. (Sparks are there!) fast paced but still gives tons of details to make you invested in the story.
4.5
Carly Moore’s story continues in Drum, TN busy as ever waitressing at the Tavern and now investigating a body found.
The author does an awesome job on catching you up on the back story so you don’t feel lost. Whether this is the first book in the series you pick up or it has been awhile since you read the previous one, you get the idea without it being redundant.
I love seeing where Carly’s life leads her.
Her family she found here, Hank, makes your heart melt on how protective and caring he is for her. The friendships she creates with so many in town including Marco.
Carly and Wyatt have been broken up for a few months when Wyatt’s ex-girlfriend’s body is found. Guess who the main suspect would be?
Carly tries to get past her recent heartbreak and help Wyatt stay out of jail while trying to NOT become like the ex-gf…by being six foot under.
I was very excited to get to finally learn of some of Wyatt’s secrets. I felt torn at times, part of me angry with him, other part my heart breaking. The suspense and uncertainty on how their relationship will turn out, trying to keep Wyatt from going to jail as well as the danger Carly was putting herself in kept me on the edge of my seat.
With this book I felt like more answers to the puzzle are slowly revealing even though I end up asking more questions on what will happen next for the overall grand picture. I wouldn’t say it is necessarily a cliffhanger but it does make you not want to wait for the next book.
This was exciting, intriguing, a little heart wrenching, but as usual it was an overall great story.
In this latest installment of the Carly Moore series, Carly has more on her hands than just trying to bring Bart Drummond to his knees. Wyatt comes to Carly asking for help to clear his name when he becomes the number one suspect after they dig up the body of his ex-girlfriend from nine years ago. And on land that is legally deemed Bart Drummonds but boarded on Bingham’s land, to boot!
Heather Stone was one complicated woman to say the least. Carly doesn’t go on this investigation on her own, she has the help of her best friend Marco, while Wyatt stays in the shadows and eventually in hiding. Each lead that Carly and Marco run into, opens up several more questions every time. The townsfolk don’t like Carly digging into the past, they don’t want their secrets uncovered and they often get leery of saying more. That often being due to Marco being a deputy sheriff, which gives them several obstacles along the way.
Eventually you find out the truth of what happened to Heather all those years ago, when things come to a head at the end of the book. I always love the last 20% of DGS books because they’re so action packed where you can’t put the book down and you have to read as fast as you can to get answers. Some of which are a bit surprising, which also is a natural thing when it comes to a DGS book.
I feel Book Three in the Carly Moore series makes you want more. While you get some of your questions answered, you pile up a list of more questions and mystery that leaves you wanting the next installment sooner than later! I don’t feel like everything will be wrapped up in just one book, so I’m hoping there is at least two more books. And while I was hoping for a certain romance to happen, I’m holding out hope that we see some more romance in the next book that’ll make my heart happy… but as long as Carly is happy with her choice, that’ll make me happy. My curiosity is peaked to say the least though, and I can’t wait to read what happens next to Carly and her new found family in Drum, Tennessee.
This next instalment of the Carly Moore series is intense and heightened that I couldn’t stop reading all weekend. As Carly was on her mission to clear Wyatt’s name, I was on the ride right along with her. I wonder if it was because Wyatt was the one in trouble and needed help as to why I was so invested but I also feel it was due to the storyline that kept me absorbed.
This time round, Carly is still trying to find out more about Bart Drummond and his illegal activities so to bring him down, but also help solved the murder of a young woman who was supposed to leave town nine years prior. She just so happens to be Wyatt’s ex girlfriend, Heather which now places him as the number one suspect. Carly knows that Wyatt isn’t capable of murder, hiding things from her – sure, but not killing an innocent woman. She agrees to help as long as Wyatt tells her more about his father.
DGS is brilliant at writing mysteries, along with any other genre, and I love all the characters in this series. Carly is not only capable of holding her own, she has a heart of gold. She has now surrounded herself with good people she is now considering family, like Hank. I adore his gruffness as well as the side he only shows Carly when alone, a protective father figure. Her boss Max is also a great guy, he treats Carly like a sister and is learning that she is one that can be trusted. Of course there is Wyatt and Marco, these two have been in the forefront in Carly’s new life in Drum. She dated Wyatt for a few short months and Marco is her best friend from the the time they have spent together since she arrived in town. Each of them would like to be more significant than being in the friend zone, but she has been burnt before and it’s not that easy to trust again. I wonder what the next mystery will be for Carly and the gang in Drum. I will definitely be ready to devour that book as well.
Carly’s book are getting better and better. It only does she grow as a person, she becomes an independent one as well. So much mystery around that little town of Drum. Carly has to help a friend clear his name. But is she just making things worse? With the help of her friends Marco and a handful of others, will she get to the bottom of it, it will she find herself in a pickle?
Denise know how’s to grow her series. She know how bro keep the reader loving her books. This one is no different. The main character grows so much in this book. She knows who she is and what she wants. The third book is amazing! Get it now!!
Holy Moley, what a read! The 3rd book in the Carly Moore series is the most intense yet! It starts off running and doesn’t let up! Carly has become such a strong, fierce woman and I am loving her journey so very much. The twists and turns in One Foot in the Grave had my nose buried in my Kindle until way too late, but I just couldn’t seem to put it down. Her relationships with the citizens of Drum grow deeper and richer throughout the story and I just can’t wait for the next installment!
Another amazing Carly Moore mystery! This was the first ever book that had me seriously considering peeking ahead. I hate spoilers! But I couldn’t handle the suspense! I somehow kept myself in check and just devoured the book as quickly as humanly possible.
In the end, I did not even come close to guessing what happened. DGS is full of surprises. I don’t know how she does it again and again. But the fact that she does is all that matters. She keeps us on the edge of our seats on these crazy awesome rides!
I love Carly. I love Marco. I love Hank. I love every one of these characters. Even though they are flawed like real people. I was so upset when this book ended because I wasn’t ready to let them go. I want to climb inside and hang out with them until the next adventure begins.
I am a huge fan of Denise Grover Swank. I have read all of her Rose Gardener books, and I’m really enjoying the Carly Moore series as well. Denise rights complicated and flawed characters. The great thing about her character’s is that no matter how complex they are you still care about them. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Loved it!!!
I can’t wait for the next book!
Carly just keeps getting better. I’m loving watching her character evolve. The town setting is perfect for a intertwined mystery. Denise Grover Swank always gives us detailed, amazingly flawed, real characters… interwoven in an amazing story!
I love the characters in this series and really look forward to the next book. Once I start reading, it’s really hard to put it down!
I gave this book five stars as always the characters and their stories are so well written to the point where they are life like. This book to me was a great read full of anticipation and mystery all of the while getting to know many little secrets about each character making you fall in love with them even more not to mention full of feeling and excitement. I cannot wait to see what happens next and hope that this will continue to be a very long series of books. I love Carly she has her own wonderful story to tell. This book has me hoping that the next will be right around the corner for so many reasons and will definitely be one you can reread and love.
If you haven’t read any of the other Carly Moore books, it’s probably best you not start with this one. You’ll have missed a great deal of drama and intrigue and backstory. You would most likely be OK as the author does a fantastic job at recapping the history of the series so far. I just wouldn’t recommend it because why would you want to skip over the other books and the shenanigans Carly seems to get mixed up in in the small town of Drum?
These books seem to go so fast for me when I’m reading them because I’m on the edge of my seat (figuratively speaking) from the suspense. They are very well written; seem to not give anything away beforehand; and keep you guessing throughout. I almost never figure them out beforehand and I love that. The author doesn’t treat her readers like they are stupid but doesn’t make things too overly complicated as to confuse. Very quickly becoming one of my favorite series. And I’m still wondering about Carly and Marco. No clue as to how that is going to go down.
Drum TN – A small town in Tennessee. Carly is back and trying to continue living under the wire in Drum with her new found family. I absolutely love Hank, Ruth, and Max, but I have to say Marco is my favorite character. The closeness she has with these characters is very endearing even when she isn’t sure who she can trust.
As she investigates yet more murders that seem to be involving the Drummond family and the “Good Ole Boys” who aren’t so good in the sheriff’s department. Can she find the killer before it’s too late and someone within her inner circle is arrested for a crime she swears he didn’t commit?
I love all of Denise’s books and Carly never disappoints. Grab your copy today and I hope you fall in love with Drum and all the amazing characters as much as I have.
