** spoiler alert ** As far back and they can remember, they have been enemies. One accident changes everything. Will she learn to trust him? Will Dalton ever go back to his ways?
I love a good enemies-lovers romance and this one was definitely on my list of favorites now. I love seeing how Dalton changed, the only question I had was does he ever get his memories back? I didn’t blame Piper for being hesitant on trusting him, but loved how she allowed her heart to slowly open up to him. Great read!
He loves what he can’t remember —she can’t forget the truth…
I’ve read so many bully stories that it’s probably not even healthy anymore. *chuckles*
I’ve enjoyed Piper and Dalton’s world tremendously, mostly because it’s different in the lines where he can’t remember.
But I’d love a bit more harshness, more roughness.
And there’s a glimpse of when Frankie, her best friend, meets this guy Zeeke… Gods, I need that story so badly.
One-Eighty is a perfect read for those who love a bully with a sweet side.
What happens when the bully that has tormented you all your life, has no memory of what he had done? Piper has stood as strong as she could while her neighbor and bully, Dalton, made sure that her life was a living nightmare. In a twist of events, the two end up in an accident and Dalton loses all memory; family, friends, his past actions. Dalton is a completely different person after the accident, and he has no clue just what he has done to Piper. For Piper, he is still the attractive Dalton but now he doesn’t look at her with hate in his eye, does she trust this new Dalton? Or will the old Dalton pop back up and use her trust against her?
This was such a good story! Super entertaining, with loads of drama, some shock factors, and some chemistry that heats up a kindle! Marie James can write the phone book and make it interesting! I give this 5 stars.
One-Eighty isn’t my normal read. It was hard for me to get into the book. As much as I love Marie James, reading how this boy bullied Piper, and how it took a turn for the better in the book, just wasn’t my style of reading. After bulling her, I felt like he pushed her into stuff. I feel like this book is geared more towards teens vs her normal books being geared more towards adults.
One Eighty is a bully romance that will take you by surprise. You will experience the pain in the early part as Dalton shows us the mean-spirited side to him. Marie James doesn’t pull any punches as she gives us everything and more with his character. Then just as the title states, Dalton does a one eighty with his personality as a result of an accident and no memory. As your heart fights alongside Piper to believe the new improved version of Dalton, your anxiety will be high as you wait for the fall from grace. A story that will hold you hostage to the pages as you take a ride on an emotional roller coaster from heartbreak, forgiveness, angst, hurt and finally love. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat as Dalton fights hard to show Piper that this new version of him is his true self. A unexpected story that shows this author can bring that and some when it comes to writing.
OMG What an amazing read by Marie James, i’m not new to her writing I started with her MC series but this is by far my fav read from her, and I love all her books. She absolutely slayed this novel.
We learn about Piper and Dalton. Piper was bullied in school by none other then Dalton, after a horrible accident, Dalton losing his memory of who he use to be. He does whatever he can to win her over and prove he’s not the person he use to be. Piper isn’t quick to trust him, she has a lot to forgot from the old Dalton and she also has some secrets of her own. Marie makes this so realistic and shows just what some students go thought in school.
I truly could not put this story down I wanted to know what was going to happen with every flip of the page.
Can’t wait to see what we have in store for Westover Prep.
For some reason I’ve been into bully romance and One-Eighty (Westover Prep #1) sure hits all the things I want in a story. It drew me in from the very first page, the angst, raw emotion, and the twist and and turns, kept me turning the pages late into the night. I couldn’t put it down. For years Dalton and his cronies, have made sweet Piper life’s hell due to their bullying. The stuff this girl has had to deal with will break your heart, but also show you her incredible courage to keep going. There wasn’t one thing that I didn’t like about Piper. Now Dalton was not a favorite for many reason, but as the story progressed I started to like him more. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was a very interesting book. And it was simply amazing
Marie James did amazing job on this book. And especially to go into a genre she is not use to.
I loved Dalton and Piper together in the end, you could see their feelings were real. Even after everything in the past.
I highly recommend this series. And I can’t wait for more of this series.
One word for this read is WOW! Piper is a very strong will young lady. What she had endure from Dalton since kindergarten and his crew of friends is hard to believe she survived so far. This is a heart wrenching story that Piper wants to forget everything and not fall in love with Dalton. Dalton can’t remember anything that he has ever done to Piper including bullying her since kindergarten. He can’t image the things that everyone said he has done in his past especially to Piper the most beautiful girl he has ever saw. Dalton will do anything he can to show Piper he is a changed man and will be anything she wants. He will not give up. Piper not sure she can ever forgive him. She doesn’t want to break her walls down because what happens when Dalton gets his memory back. Will the bullying start all over again? I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to find out about Piper’s best friend Frankie love life that happen over the summer. I volunteer to read ARC for an honest review.
OMG, this is a good book!! I normally would not have read this since it’s about high schoolers, but I’m so glad I did. It has a very beautiful, smart and very bullied girl and her tormentor, the king of the school and head jock. Dalton takes bulling Piper to a whole new extreme. For 12 years she has suffered from his attention. Then, one horrible night, things come crashing down. In an accident that should have taken both of their lives, life takes a one-eighty. A definite MUST have!! I voluntarily received an ARC copy of this book and I have left my honest review.
A new twist on a bully romance. Dalton is unlike any bully I’ve read yet. A boy who not only instigated the bullying of a young girl, but also grew and festered those around him to be just like him. This is a person to dislike on every level and yet this is who the hero of the story is. Marie James set a challenge and I was curious to see how it played out. Could the ultimate villain be redeemed?
Piper, also known as Bloody Mary, thanks to Dalton, has been bullied her entire life. How the sweet, next door neighbor has put up with it for as long as she has is the ultimate mystery, but it is now senior year and she is looking forward to eventually escaping the monster who lives next door.
Dalton is the king of the school and everyone follows his lead. He’s always picked on Piper so everyone else does as well, that is until an almost fatal car crash wipes his memory and he has no recollection of anything past the age of five. He never once recalls bullying Piper and all he sees is a gorgeous girl living next door. Why do people keep telling him he’s such a bad guy? All he wants is to get to know his next door neighbor.
What would you do to have a clean slate of any mistake, wrongdoing, or blunder? The only thing is everyone else around you remembers exactly what you’ve done and you don’t. The one person you want is the one person you can’t have. This doesn’t make sense to your clean-slated mind. Perhaps that clean-slate doesn’t look so good anymore. Or are you willing to show that you are a new person?
This entire concept is very well done on both sides of that “what if”. How can you trust the ultimate villain and how do you earn that trust when you’ve been the villain?
One-Eighty will dig deep into a lot of issues you may not feel comfortable touching, but they are real issues that happen to teens today. Come out of the other side of the story and I think you’ll be happy that you stuck with Dalton and Piper and hopefully see more of what happens at Westover Prep.
Piper and Dalton’s story is one you need to read now, this is my first book by Marie James and I’m definitely going to read more. One-Eighty is the first book in the new Westover Prep series. It’s a bully romance where you get everything you love in this trope. All the angst and emotions that have you on a rollercoaster. I wasn’t able to put it down, I started it and finish it reading through the pages. The topics that are talked about here might not be for everyone, bu I can certainly tell you they are approached in a perfect real way. I want the next one now!
Dalton is a bully, the worst of the worst and boy did the author do a great job of making me hate him; and I did, quite a bit. I sure didn’t know how she was going to make him redeemable. Piper, well she is a better woman then I am. If I lived through half the things she did… man, she’s amazing.
While I wouldn’t consider this an academy book (as it takes place entirely over summer), I would highly suggest it to readers who enjoy those types of stories because this one is raw and real and heartwarming.
Without giving anything away let me just say, with each page turned my heart was at war, feeling the pain but also wanting the forgiveness. The story ends so sweetly
Marie James…You Evil, Evil Woman!!! This book instantly hooked me from the start and kept me sucked in for the wild, angsty and emotional, page-turning ride.
Dalton has been Piper’s tormentor for as long as she can remember and the reason for all of her bad days and the reason everyone else in school picks on her also.
One night after a particularly horrible party all around for everyone, Piper and Dalton end up in a horrific car accident that leaves Dalton missing a good portion of his memories. But following the accident it was as if he almost did a complete 180, wanting to fix the mistakes he has made in the past but Piper understandably doesn’t trust him at all.
I think this is Marie James’s best book creatively to date. I really enjoyed the premise and uniqueness of the story and I absolutely loved the characters. I cannot wait to read the next book. If it is anything like this one, it will be absolutely amazing!!!
Wow! What a delightful surprise! This book is full of emotion. I will admit that the first chapter was tough in that Dalton was very unlikable but keep reading. You will fall in love with him too! Marie James does a great job of leading you through a story filled with forgiveness and new beginnings. You can’t help but feel Pipers torment. I devoured the book and can’t wait for the next one. Thank you Marie James for stepping out of your wheelhouse and bringing this spectacular new novel to the table. I absolutely loved it!
One Eighty
By: Marie James
.5 Review by Kristie K
Can tragedy banish the wicked from your soul?
Marie James takes us on a journey of torment and salvation to bear witness to the painful battle between love and hate. Tormented for years by the beautiful boy next door and his band of minions, Piper Schofield has scars on her soul despite the facade she shows to the world. Secrets hide behind her beautiful face, and stunning blue eyes, hiding the true depth of agony she has suffered at the hands of Dalton Payne. With his classic, all american good looks, gorgeous body, and unsurpassed athleticism, Dalton rules Westover Prep with a cruel hand and sadistic smile. The master of high-school politics, Dalton has made it his sole duty to ruin the sweet little girl next door. With the beginning of their last summer at Westover Prep, another cruel prank throws Piper and Dalton together, and a strange twist of fate leads to tragedy. When memories are thrust into darkness, and the truth is taken away, can forgiveness turn to love and loss into hope?
Holy crow, Marie! This book was just…well…ummm…everything! I literally read this book through in one day. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The first thing I thought was, “Oh my gosh, this book is too much…but also not nearly enough”. On one hand I wanted to know so much more, learn about the time before the tragedy, before the beautiful disaster that changed everything. What can I say, I’m a details girl! But, on the other hand, the slow reveal and strong emotional connection nearly knocked me on my a**. I could envision two beautiful children faced with a choice, and how that choice would forever affect their future. How a spoiled child denied their greatest desire, developed into a young man with overwhelming hate and jealousy in his heart.
“If I notice how hot she is, that means others will too, and I need Mary to stay in the gutter right where I put her years ago.” – Dalton Payne
It was a struggle to like Dalton, and a truly devastating roller coaster of emotions tormented me, but in the end I fell in love with his broken soul.
“She didn’t deserve to suffer at the hands of an idiotic boy and the army of bastards willing to hurt her at his command.” – Dalton Payne
Piper, on the other hand, was so very easy to love. Her quiet strength, huge heart, and unblemished soul in the face of such horrid torment was truly breathtaking. I could feel everything she felt. A true tribute to Ms. James’ writing, I could envision and feel every moment. There were so many moments when I was in awe of Piper. Her ability to forgive, and love someone that had brought her so much pain…incredible.
This book proves the truly fine line between love and hate, and displays the beauty that can exist if the line is traveled just right.

When I first picked up One Eighty, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Marie James is one of my go to authors. I honestly have yet to read anything she’s written that I don’t just love. Her writing style is and flare for words and the dramatic have always just sucked me in. But his book was a new genre for her and honestly for myself. I don’t usually read teenage romances as they are usually too unrealistic for me. But I my love for her work is what made me decide to give it a whorl. All I can say is Holy Cow am I ever glad I decided to read this amazing book.
The characters stole my heart and I just wanted to wrap them in a bubble and not let them out. Especially Piper. Piper was bullied by the Dalton, her next door neighbor from grade school on. The older they got the worse his constant tormenting became. Being the coolest kid at school his friends started bullying her as well just to impress Dalton. But one night changes everything for both of them. Surviving a horrendous accident leaves them both on dangerous ground. Dalton wants Piper to be his girl and sets out to win her heart, but Piper can’t forget the bully that has ruined her life for years no matter how sexy and sincere he seems.
The storyline is very heartfelt and heartbreaking. While reading it, my heart broke for these too so many times yet it kept rooting for some kind of happy ending. One thing is for sure, I got so invested that I can’t wait for book 2 in the Westover Prep Series. Kudos Ms. James for venturing out to a new genre and nailing it so beautifully. 2 Thumbs Up and 5 stars for an amazing start to what is starting out to be an outstanding series.
I absolutely loved Dalton and Piper’s story! I was a little surprised to find myself rooting for the bully in the story, hoping he’d find redemption. The story makes you feel so many different emotions and leaves you wanting more. A must read for sure!
I tried to leave 5 stars but it wouldn’t let me. I absolutely loved this book! I was not too familiar to the whole bully book genre. I have to say I really found this book enthralling! I can’t wait to read the next book!
Piper and Dalton…. what a ride!!!! This is a different type of book from Marie and it is amazing!! Words that come to mind are painful, emotional, redemption and forgiveness. I have never cared for bully romances, however Marie has done it so very well!!! It’s dark and light. I absolutely loved it!!
