I was so intrigued by this book as soon as I saw the teasers for it. It caught my eye and i just knew I had to dive in and devour it. This book is SO different to your usual bully books. Yes, the hero is a bully but the book takes a turn and travels down a road less traveled and Marie James completely knocked this story right out of the bully romance park! I was addicted!!!
The chemistry between the main character is undeniable, I could feel it through the whole book. The angst, the need… OHH I LOVE IT!! That prologue grabbed me and didn’t let me go, I could not put this book down at all. Hook, Line, Sinker….I was a goner for this book.
All the slow burning goodness wrapped up in one fantastic read. I need to know more. I want to see more of both of the characters. I am so ready for the next book in this series, that’s for sure!
This is my voluntary arc review
This book was so much more than a bully romance. It’s about standing up for yourself, forgiveness, and a love that can overcome anything. The prologue not only had me wanting to skip to the end, but it made me instantly fall in love with these characters.
Piper is willing to stay in the shadows as long as she isn’t bothered by the bullies at her school. Unfortunately, they have chosen her as their target. She is shy, rarely stands up for herself, and tries to please everyone.
Dalton is the reason people bully Piper. He is the ring leader and will continue letting people get away with it because he thinks she deserves it. He is arrogant, rude, and a jerk to even his family.
These two have a lot of heartbreak to overcome, and Dalton’s reasoning for bullying Piper are childish. However, their story was so uniquely written that I didn’t care about his reason. I just wanted them to get their HEA.
This book has all the twists and you will be hoping for healing as well as forgiveness the whole time. These two have chemistry in spades, but sometimes forgiveness is not enough.
I was sad to see their story end, but I’m so excited to see what happens in Frankie’s book. This was my first book by Marie James, and it definitely will not be my last.

Are you looking for a different take on a bully romance then look no further because One-Eighty is it!! Marie James delivered an amazing story of that flips the script on a bully who changes his ways. Going into this book I couldn’t stand Dalton. I felt he had all of the bad karma heading his way for the way he treated Piper. Dalton, the broody king of Westover Prep wrote off Piper since kindergarten and had everyone in the school following in his tormenting ways towards her. Until one fateful night and everything changed for these two. This story is intriguing, consuming and the push and pull between Dalton and Piper will keep you on your toes. I couldn’t put this book down and I can’t wait for book 2. Marie James left me with so many questions. What’s going to happen once school starts? Who is Zeke? What’s going to happen with Frankie? Ugh! So many questions that I am trying to be patient and wait for book. This is a must read!
In the beginning it was very easy to hate Dalton. I’m so glad his character changed for the better. The bullying was difficult to read at times, just because he was so awful. Piper was a strong, amazing young lady who endured so much. I’m surprised that she gave him a second chance, but she is just that nice of a person. The story keeps you turning the pages, wanting to know how it all turns out. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Emotional
Bully romances have come to be one of my favorite genres and One Eighty does not disappoint. The author has given us a wonderful story with fantastic characters.
Dalton is the king of the school, everyone bows to him. It’s his mission to make his neighbor and fellow students life miserable. He’s mean and a total jerk. Until a terrible accident and suddenly he’s a different person.
Piper’s story will break your heart. Her pain is all to real and unfortunately it is happening every day to our children. Her pain is a story that needs to be told and I love the way the author told it.
This is an amazing story that I truly enjoyed. It’s a must read.

Even though I haven’t read YA since high school, I decided to to give this book a chance. The things Piper endures throughout is awful. Dalton is the main source of everything but, when he’s robbed of his memories it’s a chance at redemption. I enjoyed reading this book and I’m excited for Frankie and Zeke’s story.
I am speechless…
Marie James surpassed my expectations with this bully/second chance romance with One-Eighty.
Dalton was a character that you couldn’t help but want to hate right from the start. Then when a near death situation happens and he wakes up a totally different person. A person that you can’t help but slowly let into your heart. He’s still not perfect, but he’s trying.
Piper. My heart was bleeding for her right from the beginning. And as she reveals little by little of what her life was like pre-memoryloss Dalton, I was completely heart broken. She is definitely a character that from the start speaks to the reader on so many levels. You just want to hold her and tell her that things will one day be ok.
I have read quite a lot of Marie James’s work, and I will say this is definitely done of her best work. She was able to take a bully romance and turn it into a second chance romance with perfect fluidity. I cannot wait to get the next book in this series, I just know that she’s going to be upping the angst.
A bully romance like no other! One Eighty is a whole new take on a trope that I have quite the love/hate relationship with and this book landed on MEGA love for me. I’m super picky when it comes to bully romance, I need to see and be able to actually feel the characters to be able to love a hero that has done so many truly atrocious things, but Marie James took that to a whole new level with Dalton.
Previous Dalton was a vile human being, and that was not sugar coated one bit in this book. Right down to his own family he was cruel, selfish and arrogant. But new Dalton, the one with no memories, is the polar opposite. It’s like losing those memories allowed who he really was to finally come out and that young man is magnificent.
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, much like Piper was, but he just kept on winning me over with how utterly devoted he was to proving to Piper he loved her. There’s a lot of heartbreak in their story, a lot of forgiving, a lot of growing up and every bit of it had me glued to the pages.
It’s been a while since I read a YA romance (high school age MC’s) and I can honestly say I have never read anything with the Bullying to the extreme it was taken to in this book. I enjoyed the story and the twist of Dalton loosing his memory and falling for the girl he lived to torment.
Normally the bullying is glossed over and mentioned that it had happened, you may get an incident or two but in this book it is full on bullying to the extreme where it was almost painful to keep reading because I felt so bad for Piper. Piper the sweet shy girl that lives next door to Dalton the creator of all of her torment. That is until the accident.
I never like to give spoilers but it’s safe to say that Dalton was in a car accident where he is badly hurt and he looses so much of his memory he doesn’t remember most of his life, so when he sees the beautiful girl next door he doesn’t remember the way he treated her and doesn’t understand why she hates him so much.
This story is about redemption and forgiveness. I think it was really well done but I will be honest there was a part that I totally disliked and thought was unnecessary to the extreme it was taken, but I do understand why the author went into the direction she did with it because of the shock value. For me personally I wish things played out a bit differently in that scene.
Marie James is a new-to-me author but after reading this book you bet I have my hand waving in the air saying pick me, pick me in hopes of receiving an Advanced Reviewers Copy of the next book in the series, One Eighty (Westover Prep Book 1), which is about Piper’s best friend Frankie.
Happy Reading!!!
Fab bully/amnesia romance from a new-to-me author.
“She’s always been pretty, even though I’d never admit that out loud to anyone, but this evening she’s a knockout.”
Dalton Payne is the most influential kid at school and Piper Schofield’s neighbour. Unfortunately, he has also bullied Piper since they were little kids – for no good reason other than he could. He and his cohorts have made her school life utter hell and have massively affected her psychologically. She can’t wait to complete her senior year and then escape town for college elsewhere. One tragic night changes their lives completely. He wakes up with amnesia and no recollection of life as a teenager, and Piper has to suddenly deal with the ‘new’ boy next door who is determined to make her his.
“Kissing him is wrong and magical. It’s forbidden and everything I didn’t know I wanted. It’s cruel and perfect.”
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, with a timeline that starts just before Dalton loses his memory. He wakes up with a complete personality transplant but still obsessed with the girl next door – although now, he doesn’t want to make her life miserable, he wants make her happy and in his life. The way he is with her makes the reader question everything that went on before – his motivations and his desires. It clear there’s definitely a fine line between hate and love.
“He looks at me like I’m the beginning and end of his day.”
Piper is an unbelievably strong character, in spite of what she thinks of herself. I felt her pain, her mistrust, her doubts and her hopes. You could put up a strong argument against a relationship between her and Dalton but I guess she’d always wanted for him to really see her. Plus, no one can deny that ‘new’ Dalton is pretty darn sexy and devoted. There’s no question that they have chemistry – it was probably there all along. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and really looking forward to the next story in this series.
4 stars
This is such a great read! An intense, dramatic and emotional YA bully romance with a difference, when the arrogant, merciless bully loses his memory and falls for the girl he has spent his life tormenting. I was sucked in from the very beginning and I loved this one.
Dalton has made it his mission in life to make his neighbour, Piper, miserable. It all started in kindergarten and has continued over the years and is now completely ingrained into who Dalton is, and his role in the school hierarchy. For years Piper has been tormented by Dalton, and by those seeking his approval, and though she suffers, she has learned to live with it and is biding her time until high school finishes and she can get the hell away from everybody who has made her life hell.
But one night changes everything. An accident results in Dalton losing his memory, wiping everything but his very early childhood, and as he tries to re-learn his life and his place amongst his family and friends, it quickly becomes apparent that he’s not the same boy he used to be. And it’s Piper that he reacts to the strongest when he takes one look at her and is completely smitten.
“Fuck,” he mumbles when he breathes me in for a second time. “Please tell me you’re mine.”
Of course Piper is stunned by Dalton’s abrupt change. He makes it clear that he’s after her and his earnest pursuit understandably terrifies and confuses her. She wants nothing to do with him, he wants nothing but her. It’s a difficult situation and Dalton has his work cut out for him to win over the girl he has hurt so badly.
“Tell me what I can do, and I’ll do it. I know it’s going to take time, but please promise me that you’ll at least try. Give me a chance, baby, and I’ll prove to you that I’m worth it.”
It’s such a good set-up, and this book had me absolutely captivated. Written in dual POVs we see Dalton’s horrendous cruelty to Piper, and understand its impact on her. We see his confusion and disgust as he comes to realise the boy he used to be, and his struggle to accept his past behaviour and to convince those around him that he has changed. Especially Piper, who wants so badly to believe in Dalton, but who is completely justified in her reluctance to trust him after all he has put her through. It’s an emotional ride, and I was feeling everything right along with them.
“I won’t ever trust you.” Tears well on her lower lashes, but she takes another step back when I reach up to swipe them away. “When you get your memories back, it’ll only make things ten times worse.”
“I don’t want my memories back. I don’t want to be that guy. I can’t be the guy who avoids his family, keeps crappy friends, and is mean to pretty girls. My memories won’t matter because I’ll never forget how I feel when I’m close to you.”
The love story is so sweet. Very fast moving with the intensity of feelings, but I went with it, and I got swept up in the thrill of first love. It takes some work, but they reach the point where they laugh, tease, banter and touch, and it was so, so beautiful to see! Their openness is fantastic, and I love how honest they are with each other. Their situation is complicated though, and they have more hurdles and heartache to deal with as they figure it all out, but thankfully the drama and angst is handled really well and the story ends well.
This is my first read by Marie James, and I loved her writing. She sucked me in and had me feeling all the feels, and that’s just the way I like it. This book is a strong start to the Westover Prep series, introducing us to a world of cliques, bullies and the usual high school drama. Though this book is very much focussed on Dalton and Piper, we still get to see the main players and get a good feel for the dynamics at play. I’m excited to continue on with Piper’s best friend, Frankie’s, story up next in Catch Twenty-Two.
Such a great read. 4 stars!
OK WOW!! if I could give this a million stars I would. Marie you have so outdone yourself on this one… I devoured this book.. When I read the blurb I knew I needed this in my life. Bully romances are my new fave.
She didn’t deserve to suffer at the hands of an idiotic boy and the army of bastards willing to hurt her at his command
He loves what he can’t remember —she can’t forget the truth…
PIPER
Arrogant, controlling, and an absolute jerk.
He’s everything I loathe, and everything I want to forget.
But he doesn’t remember a bit of it.
One accident, one misstep, changed everything.
Changed him.
Now, he’s different and unbelievably sexy.
But I refuse to fall for a bully.
DALTON
Sexy, smart, feisty, and perfect.
She’s everything I want, and nothing that I remember.
What she says I am, I refuse to believe.
For her, I will be anything.
I will do anything.
Even destroy the bully from before
Dalton is a A$$HOLE. He is that guy.. the one all the guys want to be friends with and the one all the girls want to have. Unless you are on the wrong side of the IT crowd.. Dalton is the leader so to speak of Westover Prep and the hot and sexy as hell neighbor of Piper.
Piper is the innocent girl next door. She is sweet, beautiful, and has a heart of gold. But she is also the brunt of all the evil things the Westover Prep douches dish out. It all started back when they were in kindergarten and it seems Dalton had made it his mission to be her tormentor. That is till one night it all changes.. Can Piper forgive and forget? Will Dalton remember all the evil he thru at Piper?
Tell me what I can do, and I’ll do it. I know it’s going to take time, but please promise me that you’ll at least try. Give me a chance, baby, and I’ll prove to you that I’m worth it
Thank you for the phenomenal read Marie!! I soooo can not wait for Frankie and Zeke!!
Marie James shows us yet another side to her writing with her newest release One-Eighty, and I could not have loved it more. This one was so different from anything I have read before and I devoured it in one sitting.
In the beginning Dalton was a horrible, vile human and I found myself with the urge to crawl inside my kindle so that I could punch him in his cocky, arrogant face. After and accident that left him with no memories past early childhood, Dalton becomes a completely different person.
Piper isn’t really sure what to do with this new Dalton. Her whole life up to now has been nothing but torture at the hands of Dalton and his followers which makes it really hard to forgive and forget, even if he is a new person.
I couldn’t get enough of these two. Their story captivated me from the start and took me on an emotional ride I didn’t want to stop. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. I need Frankie and Zeke’s story now!
I absolutely love this author’s work and when she announced that she was trying her hand at bully romance I was intrigued. I have to say the writing was technically perfect but I just like her MC series better and it will take me some time to get used to this genre of writing for her. The premise for the story is captivating- A bully that suffers from amnesia and wants to redeem himself for the girl he used to bully. Dalton tortures Piper throughout school but never is faced with the consequences because he suffers from amnesia. Piper is a strong girl and she deserves better. The overall story was too clean-cut and not as angsty as some of the other bully romances I have read. I can’t wait to read follow up to this series.
I really, really wanted to love this story, especially since I was taken with the unique premise. A bully who hates the person who he use to be and wants to redeem himself to the girl who he use to love to hurt but now wants to love. Throw in a dash of amnesia and a touch of regret, and I was ready to quickly devour this book.
One-Eighty is an angsty bully romance that quickly turns into a saccharine sweet love story where the bully becomes bullied. I was looking for a bully humbled by his ugly past but Dalton, the most evil bully ever created, is never faced with the consequences of his actions beyond a few hateful words from Piper and his family. Sadly, I started to hate the whole amnesia concept entirely.
Dalton is far from a sympathetic character, even after amnesia. He may have changed a little but he just came across as a sweeter version of the pushy guy that he claimed to hate. Piper is such a strong girl who has been completely tortured by Dalton in the past and present and I think she deserved better than this “new” Dalton, no matter how sweet he seems to be.
I usually enjoy Marie James’ books, but to me One-Eighty’s unique bully premise didn’t work with this particular storyline.
3.5 stars
Powerful, raw and beautifully written
What if a life changing injury changes your outlook on life? Would you want to be the same person, or start over, seeking forgiveness for your past mistakes?
This is what Dalton is about to find out, and what he can’t remember is what Piper will never forget.
Powerful, raw and beautifully written. This book doesn’t gloss over the bullying perpetrated upon Piper by Dalton and his crew, but Marie James definitely lets us know how bad it got, without exposing us as readers to the worst of the details. There was also definitely a shock value in this book for me, and I know that it’s not that Ms James wanted to shock me, but rather, I was shocked at the level to which these kids stooped to dish out the physical and verbal violence to Piper everyday.
While Bully romances are not really my thing, amnesia stories are, so the blurb absolutely pulled me in. My heart was shredded for Piper, and I wondered how she could be so strong as to endure the disgusting treatment in tormented silence as she did.
After meeting Dalton in Chapter 1, I honestly believed he was unredeemable, so it is a testament to Ms James writing skills that I actually believed he should earn Piper’s forgiveness, and yes, even love. His journey of self discovery is both sad and enlightening for him, yet like Piper, I was on tenterhooks, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
If you love YA, pre-college, bullying or amnesia romances, I unreservedly recommended this book to you, and it deserves nothing less that 5 Stars
Wow! This was one emotional roller coaster ride. So different to any of the bully romances I’ve read before. I got caught up in this story and lost all track of time. Devouring this book in one sitting.
As you know high school kids can be so cruel. Dalton brings a whole new meaning to the word cruel. Piper goes through so much with him. Until a turn of events changes it all…
Not going to say too much. As you need to read for yourself to experience this story. I so hope we get more bully romance by this author in the future. It was AWESOME!
Piper Schofield has been bullied and tormented at school for as long as she can remember and nothing excited her more than graduating and leaving town. Most of the torment originated from her neighbor and then all of his friends and everyone else just followed along, leaving her with one loyal friend, Frankie.
Dalton Payne had it all and the posse to follow along with everything he did or said. He ruled his school and when he set his mind to destroying Piper, everyone else jumped on board.
But one night everything changes and Dalton no longer remembers the guy he was or the past 10 years. But when he slowly begins to befriend Piper, will she trust the changes in him or is this just another cruel trick to break her heart for good?
Wow!! This was such an emotional ride that broke my heart so many times and then fixed it all up by the end!
Piper and her story just broke my heart on so many levels. The background behind why they called her “Bloody Mary” was just awful and I absolutely broke inside reading it and knowing how cruel kids can truly be. As we learn more about Piper you get a glimpse through her diary and another incident that makes you see how much she truly has been suffering alone and she never let anyone in to how much everything really affected her. It just honestly broke me as a mother of a teenage girl I can only hope that she allows me into all of her struggles as she does now.
Dalton was a character that you completely hated at the beginning of the book and really through a little bit more just because you had to be sure that his loss was the truth. I hated the friends he initially surrounded himself with and I was so happy when all of the truth eventually came out from a certain incident at the party. I liked how Dalton slowly realized how much of a jerk he was and how he had a lot to prove to Piper to show her he was a completely different guy now.
I was pretty freaked out after the accident with everything Piper was holding in and I was so happy when the truth came out how everything was handled.
There were a few moments in the book where certain truths are revealed and things change with how people are perceived and through this I liked how strong Piper remained. I was definitely worried about Dalton and how he was dealing with it all as he had no memory of the past except through what he read from Piper’s journals and from something else as well. I understood why he was scared but I loved how Piper fought back and showed him that he was different.
The very end was great and I loved the teaser that the author gives at the end of the book for Frankie and Zeke!
What an absolutely brilliant start to a new series from Marie James!
A bully to lover story that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster that I was not prepared for. This book has heart stopping moments interspersed with sweet and tender moments as well that heal those broken parts.
Piper is a sweet shy girl just trying to keep her head down long enough to get through her senior year so she can finally leave her hometown behind.
Dalton is the boy who has made it his life’s mission to torment Piper in some of the worst ways. The popular boy whose group of friends are more than willing to take of the mantel of torment whenever needed.
A tragic accident changes the course of Dalton’s, and in turn, Piper’s life. But can the sins and torments of the past be so easily forgotten? Is it possible to move beyond such a horrible past to find the future they were always meant to have?
