A nice read for Jan 1 th . Picked it up this morning and just turned the last page :
Well written , well crafted, no gore , sex and/or foul language
The mysterie is well wotked out , the FMC is a breath of fresh air ( no wailing, sobbing , gushing, crying, screaming on every page you turn )
A good start of a series , onward and forward to get the rest of the series
I was skeptical when I first ran across this book, but I loved it. Wonderful characters, a great setting, an intriguing mystery, and sweet romance.
I loved the murder mystery, but also the romantic mystery around Gwen and Arthur. Wonderful characters and great witchy bits made for a fun read.
One Dark and Stormy Knight is an absolute delight. Gwen, a kitchen witch, is perfectly happy running her cafe in Glastonbury and spending time with her dog Merlin. Following a murder her life will never be the same again.
This book cleverly and seamlessly combines wonderful characters and modern life with the legend of King Arthur to create something very special and original. I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. So much so that I have already brought the rest of this series.
If you love cosy mysteries with a touch of romance then this is the book for you. I really cannot recommend it highly enough and it deserves far more than 5*
What a great story! Loved the chemistry between Gwen and Arthur. The touch of magic is just believable. I plan to read more of Ms. Moon’s stories.
A Dark and Stormy Knight by Hermione Moon, aka Serenity Woods, is a delightful first instalment in the new Avalon Cafe series. Now, I am a huge fan of Ms Woods’ other body of work, so I had high expectations for this series. But objectively, it is a well-written story with the beginnings of finely crafted characters. The mystery was magical and the spark of romance compelling. I LOVE Arthurian legends so I was intrigued by that aspect, as well. Don’t hesitate if this sounds like it will tick even a few of your boxes. Most enjoyable. 🙂 I read an ARC of this story, and this is my honest review.
I have been provided with a copy of One Dark and Stormy Knight by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the brand-new The Avalon Café series and it was just a great way to start off a new series. I just absolutely fell in love with this new world and new characters. I just couldn’t get enough of this world and it’s characters. I was sad to turn the last page. I can’t wait to see what happens next with this series.
King Arthur and a witch are one cute sleuthing couple!
This new cozy mystery series is charmingly wonderful. I highly recommend it to everyone who likes cozy paranormal mysteries, King Arthur, and/or baking. You get to hear about scrumptious baked goods in a quaint café in Glastonbury, England, while you get to know cozy characters and solve a mystery. There is even an adorable psychic dog and my new favorite book boyfriend, the legendary Arthur. This quirky combination of story elements comes together to make a novel to soothe your soul.
The story is told in first person perspective, in the present tense, only from the heroine’s point of view. The author is very good at this perspective, and it was lovely getting to know Gwen from her thoughts and actions. She is a good person and very relatable, even though she is a witch who can do positive magic spells on her baked goods. I also love the setting in a cute café in the picturesque and historical English town of Glastonbury. In addition, the mystery plot is well crafted. I am really looking forward to the next volume in this Avalon Café series.
A clever title and cute cover art make this an appealing book you want to dive right into! There’s a murder to be solved, a magical suit of armor, and a hint of romance along with a great cast of likeable characters – very English and very paranormal! I found it to be an interesting and entertaining story and I am looking forward to book #2!
I received an advance reader copy of this book and my review is quite voluntary.
Wasn’t sure if I would like this type of book. But I do love Serenity ‘s stories. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one.
I absolutely loved this book! It is a quick and easy read that has it all: mystery, murder, witches, historical fiction, and the hint of romance! This is a stand alone book, but I want to know more about these characters, so I will definitely be reading any sequels (and rereading this before the next book comes out just for fun!) Definitely buy if you’re looking for a light and enjoyable read!
One Dark and Stormy Knight by Hermione Moon is a standalone series starter that will have you coming back for more. Kitchen witch, Gwen Young, has always been interested in the legend of King Arthur. When a suit of armour suddenly develops a personality at the same time as a murder is committed in the nearby museum, Gwen has her hands full trying to solve the mysteries. This is a great cozy mystery and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
One Dark and Stormy Knight by Hermione Moon, book one in The Avalon Café series, was a delightful and intriguing story. Kitchen witch Gwen Young knows she’s had a strange day after discovering the spirit of King Arthur living in the suit of armor that stands guard in her café an hour after finding a dead body in the library. Ms. Moon created a story that is full of enchantment, legends, along with the perfect mix of suspense, romance and magic. I was so caught up in the story that I kept reading, finishing this book in one sitting. I highly recommend One Dark and Stormy Knight to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is the start of a cozy mystery series that combines witchcraft, reincarnation and the legend of King Arthur in one truly engaging and enjoyable story. The characters are fun and interesting and the mystery keeps you guessing. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
At first wasn’t sure how this author was going to do writing books that aren’t like her usual. But I loved this book they are just as great as the other books I have of hers. Gwen was a kitchen witch her powers were handed down through generations when she baked she put a small spell on them to help her customers. This dog adopted her after her mom died she had to leave school to take care of her mom and to take over the bakery she named the dog Merlin. There was a medieval knight that had always stood inside the door watching her but she never knew that. One night she saw a murder and the killer went after her but the sword arm fell and stopped the killer from getting her. Another time to threaten an advisory and the sword fell again and again to stop the killer from killing Gwen. He told her that he was Arthur from the round and had been stuck in the armor for along time and he thought that she was Guinevere Reincarnated. But he came alive!
One Dark and Stormy Knight by Hermione Moon is a wonderful paranormal cozy mystery. It has an original twist to it that I immediately thought of a book I read many years ago. That book is a love story, while One Dark and Stormy Knight is a mystery. However, the hint of romance is strong. The kind of romance that has spanned the centuries with two souls so completely lovingly entwined.
I know this author as one who has written some of my favorite New Zealand romance. However, this time she has outdone herself with this English mystery. Gwen may be my new best book friend. The writing is so easy to read, it felt as if Gwen and I were sitting down to tea with her sharing it all with me personally. So yes, I do believe that Arthur will try to win her over again, just as he said he would.
Trying not to give too much away because this is a book worth reading. I loved it! Honestly I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Hope several other characters get their main story too.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is going to be a fun series! It has very original elements. I’ve read time-travel, this really isn’t. I’ve read witch stories, this has more going on.
The characters are well written. The murder mystery wraps up nicely.
Due to our hero’s circumstances, the romance is going to progress more as the series goes on.
READ this book!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
What a wonderful new story by Hermione Moon…..the well loved author Serenity Woods. I have always loved the stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and this story brought back all of that love of medieval times but ina contemporary setting. This is a charming story of Gwen Young and her life as a shop owner, following in her ancestors footsteps magically using her charms to help people as best she can. But when she needs help who comes to her rescue….is it her knight in shining armor? You will have to read and find out, once I started I couldn’t put it down.
I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
One Dark and Stormy Knight is the first book in a new series. I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of mystery, paranormal, history, and humor with a dash of romance. Gwen is a kitchen witch who uses her powers to make food to heal/help people. Sir Boss is a suit of armor with a man trapped inside by magic. Merlin is her faithful dog and so much more. Imogen is her best friend and the detective assigned to solve the murder. There are other characters as well. I hope we get to know everybody a little better as the series goes on. I felt the story was a bit light on character development. I know we weren’t supposed to like Matthew but I thought the story would have been better without him. The story held my attention from beginning to end and I was surprised at who the murderer turned out to be as well as the motive. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
ONE DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT is a new cozy mystery series. It is a standalone read and there are no sex scenes just a little light flirting. Gwen is a kitchen witch, as were all the females in her line. That means they heal and help through herbs and potions. She owns a bakery that had belonged to her mother. Everyone loves the snacks she makes and sells and they always feel better for having had a treat at her shop. Her village is famous for its connection to King Arthur and his knights. The local museum has all sorts of books and artifacts regarding the famous figure. His body is suppose to be buried on the site of the chapel.
One night, by chance, she discovers a dead body in the library. She immediately calls her friend on the police department to report it and the adventure begins. After everything is over and she is cleaning up the shop for the night, she notices blue eyes starring out at her from the suit of armor that has been sitting next to the door for decades. She thinks she is losing her mind. She eventually finds her voice and asks who he is. He says, “My name is Arthur”.
This is a fun mystery as well as an entertaining read. It is not scary and not nightmare material. It does have a surprising ending. Merlin, her dog, also plays a big part in the story. It turns out he is not what she thought she rescued. Even Merlin is a lot of fun. And it would be nice if we all had a Merlin!! This is a fun read and I highly recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 4/4/2020
