“One Dark and Stormy Knight” is a cozy mystery with a little sweet romance thrown in. The plot was intriguing, and I loved the spin on Arthur, Gwendolyn, and Merlin.
Gwen is a kitchen witch who runs a cafe. She adds a little magic to her creations to help people. When she finds a woman dead in the library, she and the other residents in town become suspects so she and her dog, Merlin, decide to investigate on their own.
I can’t wait for the second book in the series.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
This is a delightful new cozy mystery. Gwen utilizes her magic in her baking to help people. After selling a former rival a muffin, Gwen goes to return the woman’s forgotten coin purse and finds her dead. After being chased back to her cafe, Gwen doubts her senses when she sees blue eyes in her cafe’s suit of armor. I received a free copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a fun read containing humor, suspense, a hint of romance and a good cozy mystery. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
5 Star review One Dark & Stormy Knight by Hermione Moon
Hermione Moon is a new author to me. This is a cozy mystery and one that I found thoroughly entertaining. This was a book filled with enough secrets and clues to keep you my detective spirit happy and guessing until the end.
There were twists, turns and surprises in One Dark & Story Knight as witch Gwen Young
and her friends follow the clues to solve the mystery and I have to say that I was taken by surprise on occasion.
It was entertaining and well written and I loved the sound of The Avalon Cafe in Glastonbury, England. This was a little gem and I cannot wait for more in this series.
I was not sure what I was expecting when I started reading this book, One Dark and Stormy Knight, but I was beyond pleased. I have already preordered the next book in the series. It is a story rich in humor but also intrigue, a murder, more mystery and magic from a kitchen witch. This is a classic tale for all ages, the focus is on the story and contains a hint of romance. It is a stand alone book but, as I have already preordered the next book in the series, there are many hints of the future. Well done, Hermione Moon, I am so looking forward to your next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Avalon Cafe #1
Gwen runs the Avalon Cafe with employees that stand by her side and an ancient suit of armor as décor. She puts a pinch of this and a tad of that into the food she prepares adding in positive magic to help her customers. The suit of armor is a mainstay of the cafe and Gwen, and others, have been known to talk to it. The night she finds a dead body, runs from a killer and is saved by the suit of armor will change her life in more ways than one. As this is a cozy mystery it is a given that Gwen will be on the trail looking for the murderer.
This book is the first in a new cozy mystery series that I believe will be top notch. I can’t wait to read what comes next!
What I liked:
* Gwen Young: a loving, kind, generous and interesting kitchen witch
* Arthur: Sigh…oh my…can’t wait to get to know him better!
* Merlin: canine companion and perhaps a lot more
* Delia, Cooper, Imogen, Christian, Duncan, Uncle Max and Aunt Beatrix – all supporting characters that I look forward to hearing more about in future books
* The paranormal witchy bits
* The plot, writing and story
* The potential for future books in the series
* The budding romance and how right it feels…well…there is more than one romance, actually
* All of it really except…
What I did not like:
* Matthew Hopkins: a dreadful man
* The murderer: seemed to have a screw loose…or some very warped thinking!
* Having to say good bye to Gwen, Arther and all the rest and having to wait for the next book to be ready
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Cute Witch/Murder Mystery.
Gwen comes from a long line of kitchen witches (ie. her spells revolve around her baking and helping people). You wouldn’t think much would surprise a witch but when the suit of medieval armour, which has stood for ever in her cafe suddenly develops bright blue eyes she is freaked out, well by that and the fact that an old school nemesis has been murdered practically before her eyes.
New genre for this author but I loved it. Look forward to the next.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 Stars!
Loved this book. This is the first book in a new series by a writer who I am already a huge fan of her romances. I don’t know what category this book would fall into, but reading it was an enjoyable experience. Maybe a cozy paranormal mystery with a hint of romance? I do love a good cozy mystery.
The book was fast paced as well as interesting with the discussion of magic, herbs, spices, and healing properties. Gwen created magic all around her shop, and discovered magic in Sir Boss.
The mystery was laid out very well. I had a suspicion about the character, but didn’t think much about the character again until the murderer was revealed.
There was a sweet attraction between Gwen and Arthur and another one between Immi and Christian. A good mystery and a little touch of romance.
I had no intention of reading this book in one sitting. I was so caught up in the story that I kept reading until the end. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

A wonderful modern fairy tale. Gwen Young is a witch. There have been witches in her family for a long long time. She does her magic baking goods in The Avalon Cafe. But then she finds a corpse in the library, an statue with an armour star talking to her and her dog is a psychic. Can she find the murder while meeting her knight in a shining armour? You will love the story with a lot of history behind.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is a fantastic story of mystery and love. My favorite quotes: “The wife I adored, and who adored me.” “…he’s been waiting for you for nearly fifteen hundred years. I’d say that makes him a pretty devoted husband.” I love this story so much!
