The spirit of Christmas is in the air at Sweet Hills Retirement Community . . . but so is murder.
Seventy-nine year-old Agatha Reiner is determined to enjoy this Christmas season. Despite the fact that her only daughter is on the other side of the country, Agatha is making the best of the holiday cheer by eating Christmas cookies, listening to carols, snuggling up with her dog Aki, and crocheting doilies for all her neighbors in the retirement community.
Unfortunately, it seems that not everyone is in a festive mood. When Agatha stumbles upon a body, police suspicions turn toward her. It doesn’t help that she was presumably the last one to see the victim alive and the detective on the case seems to think she’s nothing more than a dotty old woman with a jealous streak.
Agatha realizes it is up to her to recount her time with the victim, step-by-step, clue-by-clue, to solve this mystery before she finds herself behind bars for the holidays.

This is the best boxed set I have ever read! All four books are terrific. They also make me a little sad because I want more of all of these characters. Each book was very engaging and hard to put down. The publisher and authors did a great job with this holiday set! I recommend this set highly.
The Final Sleigh by Gretchen Allen
Holly Holiday is a corporate financial advisor. She does not enjoy Christmas and is not upset when her boss sends her to Florida the week of the holiday. After completing her business she finds herself stuck at the airport due to a snowstorm due to a snowstorm back in Pennsylvania. After one night in a hotel she must find a new place to stay because the hotel is booked for the rest of the week. She agrees to stay at the Evergreen Inn, a Christmas wonderland. When a murder occurs Holy decides to help the owners and staff stay afloat and find the killer.
This story was very engaging. The characters are developed well. Each is someone you feel as though you really know. The setting is very cozy, and not just in the cozy mystery sense. The Inn is a place I would love to stay on a vacation. The plot of this book is very engaging. I didn’t want to put it down. I wish more of these characters were in my future.

Agatha lives at Sweet Hills Retirement Community. She finds it a safe and welcome environment until she stumbles upon a body. Agatha’s holiday plans are put on hold when she becomes a very important source of information for the detective investigating the death, which may or may not be suspicious. Agatha tells the officer everything that happened during her last encounter with her neighbor. This may provide the key to understanding the man’s death.
The author does a fabulous job of developing a character after he was murdered. I feel like I know him as well as the main character in the story. I never imagined a mystery taking place in this type of setting. It was easy for me to picture since there is a retirement community next to my own neighborhood.

Lacey has been worried about her fiance for several weeks as Chris seems to be keeping something from her. Their drive to see her parents for Christmas is tense, although Chris doesn’t seem to notice. Everything seems to be going well when they arrive and Lacey finds herself relaxing a bit. Life suddenly turns upside down when, as they search the woods for the perfect Christmas tree, Lacey and her father discovere their neighbor. Dead.
A host of suspicious circumstances surround this death. Too many suspects close to home make for concern and Lacey intends to find out what happened.
This was another great holiday mystery. Interesting characters and great setting complete the engaging plot. I read this book in one sitting.
A Twinkle of Murder by Summer Prescott
Betsy Bergman agrees to help out her friend Arn and work as an image consultant at a major department store. She quickly finds that she is very good at this job and enjoys what she is doing. When her favorite client is found murdered Betsy becomes the prime suspect as she was the last known person to see the woman alive. Betsy feels she must do a little investigating on her own in order to prove her innocence.
Red herrings abound in this tale filled with interesting characters. The action moves at a steady pace and keeps the reader turning pages. I didn’t want to stop reading once I began. This would be a great first book in a series.
