With ONE CHRISTMAS HE NEVER EXPECTED the third book in her Santa Barbara Sunsets series, Lynne Marshall brings us a touching second chance on love story.
Dr. Phil Hansen is known for his playboy ways, and isn’t taken seriously when it comes to beautiful women, but his first interaction with the new fill-in OB has him spinning because something is different. She’s making him wonder “what if”!
Dr. Stephanie Bennett is only at the practice for a few weeks, and she’s pretty closed off about herself and her past. Something is up with her though, and Phil is determined to climb her walls and get her to let her guard down.
I highly recommend this story and the series as a whole. Not only do you get to experience heartfelt friendships between this group of doctors, but you also get to experience complex relationships leading to the happily ever after in each book. Lots of emotion, sweet romance and tender connections!
This is the third and final book in the Santa Barbara Sunset series. All three are beautifully well written by this author.
Phil Hanson, is a Pulmonologist. He is handsome, layedback, and loves surfing. Takes life as it comes, except when it comes to his patients.
Phil meets Stephanie Bennett, an Obstetrician working in his office. She has a past that haunts her, but when they set eyes on each other sparks are flying.
Their relationship is becoming comfortable. Phil is still non- commiting and Stephanie considers it a fling, but their attraction is alive.
An emotional turn of events makes Stephanie reveal the truth to Phil. A decision must be made about their love for each other, and commitment for their future together.
An adult man who sleeps with his little four year old half-brother because he’s afraid; a successful doctor who dresses as a Surfer Dude Santa, complete with a belly pad beneath a reindeer-patterned Hawaiian shirt and red velvet pants with suspenders. Maybe, just maybe, Phil Hanson is more than the playboy doctor that so many believe him to be. And maybe, just maybe, he will want to change his playboy status after working with the new gynecologist who has joined the clinic where he works.
Dr. Hanson is very handsome and charming but he soon discovers that Dr. Stephanie Bennett isn’t as easily swayed as most of his female acquaintances. As he contemplates more than a casual flirtation, he realizes that Stephanie has some issues that may prevent this from happening.
One Christmas He Never Expected is the third book in Lynne Marshall’s Santa Barbara Sunsets Trilogy and readers can once again experience romance as only she can write. I enjoyed that some of the characters from the other two books are mentioned and I admire Marshall’s ability to show honest emotions and realistic situations. I also appreciate that even though there are references to pre-marital sex, they are tastefully done and not offensive. This is a wonderful way to wrap up a series and people who yearn for “happily ever after” will want to read this book!
I received a copy of this book from the author but was under no obligation to post a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
One Christmas He Never Expected is the third and final book in Lynne Marshall’s Santa Barbara Sunset series. I’ve read all the book in the series and this was the perfect way to end it.
Phil Hansen, a Pulmonologist, is a bachelor who has a half-brother with Down Syndrome. Stephanie is an OB/Gyn who has recently returned to practicing after a three-year absence. One of Stephanie Bennett’s first interactions with Phil almost tears her apart. He asks her to watch his brother while her performs a medical procedure.
As they work more closely together, Stephanie shares her secret with Phil. Will she get past the tragedy that changed her life? Will Phil decide he’s ready for commitment?
One Christmas He Never Expected is a heartwarming story that took me on a roller coaster ride filled with emotion and heartache. I loved watching Stephanie as she loosened the barriers around her heart and gave into a future filled with love and promise.
I highly recommend reading this book and the other two stories in the trilogy. I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.
When he meets the right woman, there is no running from his future.
As a founding partner in a Santa Barbara medical practice, Dr. Phil Hansen has worked hard to earned his playboy reputation. Make no mistake, he is a good doctor. However, settling down is just not his thing. That is until he meets and gets to know Dr. Stephanie Bennett.
This sweet and tender holiday romance is the final story in the Santa Barbara Sunsets series. As surprise love stories go, One Christmas He Never Expected by Lynne Marshall is an emotionally entertaining story that hits all the right cords. The plot, characters and dialogue are all well written. I really liked both Phil and Stephanie, and their chemistry was obvious but kept behind closed doors. Finally, the smile-worthy ending is very happy and satisfying.
Content alert: There is a bit of mild swearing and some passionate kissing.

Isn’t it funny how we assume someone’s character from previous books in the series. Phil has the image of a ladies’ man (and he does start out that way in this book), but “enter” Stephanie. She harbors deep hurts from her past that Phil must try to learn about and get past. Great love story and HEA ending. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. Phil Hansen, the acknowledged playboy of the physicians group at a well-regarded medical clinic, finally meets his match in “One Christmas He Never Expected”. A former surfing star who became an esteemed pulmonary specialist, Phil is a gorgeous golden boy. Seemingly carefree and permanently unattached, he enjoys a successful career, the attentions of beautiful women, and an enviable lifestyle in a magnificent home. After he meets his new colleague, Stephanie Bennett, he starts to look at his own life with new eyes. Taking care of his much younger half-brother while his father and stepmother are vacationing proves to be another eye-opener for Phil. He recruits all the help he can get, including a surprisingly reluctant Stephanie. Phil is used to short-term, leave-on-good-terms romantic flings, but he shocks himself by wanting more from Stephanie. She is keeping a painful secret, and while she enjoys her relationship with Phil, she knows that she is there for a brief while to fill in for a colleague on maternity leave. In her mind, she can become involved with Phil, and then leave their relationship behind when the time comes. An unexpected pregnancy changes both of their lives, and Phil is determined to have Stephanie and their child in his life. Will former world-class player Phil win this emotional war and become the family man he suddenly longs to be? Lynne Marshall brings her “Santa Barbara Sunsets Series” to a resoundingly romantic conclusion as Phil and Stephanie have a chance to find a happiness neither had ever imagined.

Unless one has experienced a person’s pain, it is very often difficult to identify with what they are going through. Stephanie had to get away from her well-meaning family and friends for the Christmas season and takes a temporary locum assignment, where she meets perpetual playboy, Phil Hansen, who is, in fact, carrying his own baggage. At first glance, they are perfect for each other. He’s a love ’em and leave ’em type whilst she’ll be leaving Santa Barbara after the holidays. As they get to know each other better, they find that they actually complement one another pretty well. That is until the impossible happens and they are faced with choices that will affect both their futures. This holiday romance is generally well written and touched my heart in many different ways, but ultimately it spelled out all the charm and magic of the Christmas season.
