Benson Bayou Beauregard is the president of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC, and the grandson of the Sergeant at Arms for the Dixie Wardens MC. He’s a mountain of a man and the warden of a prison, and there’s only one thing that can scare him—being told that he’s the father of a three-year-old little girl.A three-year-old little girl that has no clue who he is. Hell, he only finds out about the … about the little cherub when a woman from child protective services comes by and rocks his world before leaving the girl in his shocked arms.
Every single thing he thinks he knows goes up in a cloud of smoke.
To make matters worse, the woman that he’s been trying to convince to give him a chance takes one look at the little girl and tells him that he’s just not in the right place to handle both of them.
But Bayou was never one to back down from a challenge.
He can handle a three-year-old girl that acts exactly like him, and he can more than take on the fiery red-head that sets flame to his blood while he’s at it.

I love this book and the series. I am a huge Lani Lynn fan and would recommend all of her books. Give one a try and you will be hooked.
One Chance, Fancy is the fifth title in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series, and a well written, well paced heartfelt story.
Bayou is a quirky, unique and intriguing character, and the president of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series. This big, burly, bad-ass prison warden is as dynamic as he is complex and socially awkward.
Bayou’s Fancy is his perfect match. This heroine is sassy, smart, strong, kind, caring and compassionate. She’s just as unique as Bayou, but also incredibly accepting, curious and protective of those she holds dear.
Sprinkled throughout this title is Lani’s signature blend of humor, and banter that is witty, flirtatious and fun.
I highly recommend reading the previous titles in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series, to get the most out of One Chance, Fancy. This title is probably my favorite of this series to date, I has left me incredibly eager for the rest of this engaging and entertaining series.
Another winner by Lani Lynne Vale! I have waited for Bayou’s story and it did not disappoint! Bayou thinks he is so different because of his Asperger’s, but he has the kindest heart, is great at his job, and is fiercely protective of Pru. Fast read and Lani doesn’t disappoint with the witty humor and banter as always. Can’t wait for the next in the series.
Benson Bayou Beauregard is the President of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC. Bayou knows he is different, he has learned in his life to get past what he sees as a disability and become a confident man. He doesn’t generally like a lot of people but there is one woman who he cant forget, Phoebe. Bayou met Phoebe when she was fifteen and she treated him like he was normal, he has not forgotten her and when she pops up back in his life, he watches her from afar. That is until she applies for a job at the prison he overseas. Bayou can’t resist Phoebe and is ready to make his move but does Phoebe feel the same way?
Loved this. I liked that Bayou is unique in character and the story had several surprises I did not see coming. Phoebe is wonderful and absolutely love Bayou. Wonderful story that I plan to reread again.
Love love love this series. Another 5 Star Read. Bayou is so great and I love all the Free children. I am so happy we get each of their stories. Looking forward to getting more of this series.
OUTSTANDING! The Bear Bottom Guardians has to be one of my favorite series ever! Lani Lynn Vale, captured me from the first sentence of hte first book, and I’ve been hooked since.
This book is outstanding, it shows that you can do anything if you are patient enough. Bayou is is just that when it comes to Phoebe, patient and controlling, demanding, and totally in love! The way these two come together to actually work together and fall for each other was amazing. Such a great story!
Set amidst the backdrop of the MC world, though focused squarely on the delightful connection between an unconventional hero and the strong-willed heroine who’s always been drawn to him, readers will find themselves charmed by this latest installment in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series. From their first unforgettable meeting as teens to their more meaningful interactions years later this is a dynamic duo you’ll be rooting for as an unexpected event brings them closer together in a tale that pulls at the heartstrings while putting a smile on reader’s faces.
Benson Bayou Beauregard always knew he was different as his brain never rested, social situations were reasons to panic, and keeping quiet just seemed the easiest route. Over time Asperger’s was just something he came to accept, finding ways to accommodate the way his mind worked, and for the most part he was content. There was plenty of bullying though, from his father and others, depicted through flashbacks that battered his self-esteem and broke my heart. There were thankfully a few people he could always count on to support him, one of those being Phoebe “Fancy” the daughter of another club member and someone who accepts him unconditionally. Though their interactions were few over the years they were vital to him, making him feel worthy and striving to be the best he can be despite his disability. He’s got a good job, a life he’s living on his own terms, but when it comes to romance he’s had some very bumpy moments as he has difficulties with matters of the heart. A past relationship with a manipulative woman derailed his military career and has introduced him to a child he knew nothing about and put into a role he had no intentions of ever playing. It’s a dramatic reveal that brings out yet another delicious facet to Bayou and it brings him and Phoebe even closer together as they work through his self-doubts in becoming a family. I’ve been enamored of Bayou since his introduction in a previous installment in this series, drawn to his quirks as my own brother has similar issues, and I’ve longed to learn more about him. The wait was definitely worth it as he’s a thoughtful and kind hearted man who wants to be seen as worthy of the one woman to see him and love him as he is. His interactions with Phoebe had them starting off as friends but things slowly but surely became sensual in a journey that had me cheering. His interactions with Isa had me falling for him even more as he once again proved others wrong, showing him to be the delicious hero we suspected he’d be. Bayou may not be your typical hero, but he’s just what this story needed and I applaud Ms. Vale for showing him and his imperfections in such a positive light.
From the moment readers meet Phoebe “Fancy” they’ll find her a delightful heroine, strong-willed and inquisitive, even as a young girl. She’s someone who likes the quiet though too, someone always thinking, and it’s part of what brings her and Bayou together. They’re both open-minded and protective of others, particularly in the case of Phoebe who’s quick to call out anyone who belittles Bayou. Little does she know the affect this has on him, the fire it lights in him to be the best he can be to one day be worthy of her. From the very first page Phoebe shows herself to be an immensely likable heroine, tough on the outside but with a heart of gold. She’s always stood by Bayou and together they are a formidable pairing that warmed my heart. Theirs was a slow burn romance, but the time invested in their burgeoning romance made their HEA all the richer. Through all their ups and downs Phoebe rolled with the punches, dealt with Brielle like a saint, to become one of my favorite heroines and she was yet another highlight of this story.
Though this story is set in the world of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC it’s a story focused on matters of the heart and soul. There’s no bloodshed or bullets flying, just a tear or two falling as a unique hero finds not only acceptance but love from a woman who’s solidly on his side from the moment they first meet. Theirs is a sweet and sensual romance, made even more heartwarming by the arrival of Isa, that wrapped me in a warm blanket that had me rooting for them every step of the way. Along with an unforgettable main couple, Ms. Vale gave readers updates on past couples and other enticing characters courtesy of interludes of witty and playful banter that reminds us of the familial vibe surrounding this club. These interactions pulled me in even more wholeheartedly and show why this has been such a consistently satisfying series. Though there’s much to like about this book, there’s one glaring issue…the overly-jealous Brielle. She can be very toxic at times, manipulative, and just plain creepy. I’m sure Ms. Vale has a purpose for her, a way to redeem her eventually, but as of right now she did nothing but frustrate me. Despite this character, one that’s merely an annoying distraction, I still found myself utterly entertained by this story and look forward to where things go next in a series that hasn’t disappointed yet.
Heading into One Chance, Fancy, I didn’t know what to think about Bayou or if what I learned about him would make me more apt to like him or find him as problematic as I found Brielle during Hoax and Pru’s story. Bayou has always been described as a man who tells it like it is but can also be standoffish; it’s also been made clear that Bayou is different from other guys…that the people around him see him as a bit peculiar, and he sees himself as anything but normal.
SO, with all of that in mind, I was both eager and hesitant to enter Bayou’s head, but now that I’m finished, I can wholeheartedly say that Bayou is an amazing man – one who is intelligent, honest, and commanding AND exactly the man he was meant to be! In fact, I would go so far to say that he’s close behind my favorite Lani Lynn Vale book boyfriend of all time, Silas Mackenzie.
I loved, loved, loved how Lani Lynn Vale crafted Bayou’s character and the things he said about himself and everything Phoebe has done for him since their initial interaction when she was 15 years old. Bayou has always been self-sufficient and even though he may think he’s not wired correctly, he sure as shit knows what it takes to succeed and it’s that determination that has driven him in all facets of his life….but one, but that’s only because he needed to make sure that what he felt for Phoebe and how she saw him still held true even after a decade.
Reading Pru and then Phoebe’s story was just wanted I needed. I adore them and the bond they share. I love that they’re a bit quirky because it’s what makes them genuine. They’re passionate about the people they love and the activities they enjoy and that idea is clearly illustrated throughout their books. Phoebe is such an amazingly patient and caring person which makes her a great nurse, even if she works in a prison. She brings so much to Bayou’s life just by being who she is and the fact that she was/is so protective of him, even after he learned to be more self-assured and confident, he wouldn’t have gotten to that point without Phoebe’s presence in his life even when she wasn’t their in person.
One Chance, Fancy is another fantastic read in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series. I truly cannot get enough of Lani Lynn Vale’s writing and characters; she always finds a way to change my perspective on the characters she wants me to understand better, forcing me to see their positive attributes amidst the less than stellar ones, and she also works to craft characters who are flawed but know what they need to do to improve themselves and be the people they want to be for themselves and then for those they love.
4.5 Poison Apples
4 1/2 STARS!
Sweet, touching and steamy-licious! With the next book in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series, Bayou is front and center. We know him as the quiet but steady friend to all of his MC, a solid leader as president of the club and warden at the prison. We learn more about him personally and where his past led him. There’s really no MC part to this book, but it’s a really great taming of the tough guy with the haunted past sort of story. Really enjoyed it!
Bear Bottom Guardians MC president Benson “Bayou” Beauregard is shocked when a social worker shows up handing him a three year old little girl who his crazy ex never told him about. He’s not sure he’s good enough to be the parent she needs, but it doesn’t take long for the woman he’s got eyes for to set him straight and ease him on the path of being the best Daddy ever.
Phoebe Mackenzie met Bayou when she was fifteen years old, and made a huge impact on his life. She shows up at the prison to apply for a job and gets up close and personal with him again. He doesn’t believe she could possible be interested in someone like him … but little does he know that he’s all she’s ever wanted!
I knew going in that I was going to like this book because I have liked everything the author has written. What I was not expecting was how much I was going to like it … I LOVED IT! The main characters, Bayou and Phoebe, have been introduced and appeared in various books through not only the Bear Bottom MC series, but also the Freebirds series (at least with Phoebe), so I already went in knowing the characters and the players. But I didn’t expect how much I was going to enjoy Bayou’s quirks and Phoebe’s sass.
I think I that I was more drawn to Bayou’s character in this book. What he went through and the situations that he finds himself in through this story really made me empathize with him more. And I really got a kick out of the way that he acted at times, especially with the hawk. He has a sense of humor, but it is hidden away most times and I don’t think the other characters see it, but with Phoebe he didn’t have to try to act normal around her. And his daughter! OMG she is a chip off of the old block and my second favorite character in this story.
Overall, LOVED the book. The characters were interesting, and frankly refreshing. There are a few that I would love to throat punch (and one clearly needs it by the end). The emotional impact of the book was nice and level. There is a smidge of danger that pepper’s the pages, but not much. Angst is definitely kept down in this story as compared to some of the author’s other works, but that is what makes his one so good. So for me … two thumbs up and happy reading!!
This is the fifth book in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series. It is a standalone. But, the series is amazing and I have loved every one of them.
Pheobe is the daughter of Same and Cheyenne, from Freebirds.
Bayou is the grandson of Dixie Normaus, from the Heroes of Dixie Wardens MC. (Sidenote, I just love saying/typing his grandpa’s name hehe).
Bayou has Asperger’s. He is highly functioning. He is the warden at the prison. He’s a great guy to those that he loves. To those that don’t know, or get, him, he comes across as an asshole.
Pheobe is a nurse at the prison.
Their story starts 10 years earlier, when they first met when Phoebe was only fifteen. Don’t worry, that’s just when they first met, nothing happened.
I do wish someone would slap Brielle. She really needs to be put in her place. So self-centered. I really don’t like her. At. All.
I love Isa.
“I’m not lazy. I’m physically conservative.” -Tshirt
“Apparently, it’s immoral to trip a kid who’s running around a restaurant unattended. Who knew?” -Why Phoebe questions whether she should be a parent.
Phoebe has had a crush on the Benson since she was 15 years old and met him at a party. She knew right away that he was different . . . special. She stood up for him then, and she never forgot him.
Benson never forgot Phoebe either and vowed to become a better man. One that could function in society and be the type of man she needed, not one ruled by his Asperger’s diagnosis. Years later, he’s a decorated veteran, warden of the local prison, President of the Bear Bottom Guardians MC Club and Phoebe’s new boss.
With a romance that has been brewing for years, it’s a slow burn that literally explodes once Bayou realizes that Phoebe wants him as much as he wants her. Just as their romance starts, Bayou’s hit with unexpected news that could end their relationship before it has a chance to bloom . . . except he refuses to let it! Phoebe’s his and he’s never giving her up!
The Bear Bottom Guardians series has completely won my heart, but One Chance, Fancy is truly special. I loved Bayou’s character so much and truly applaud Lani Lynn Vale for giving reader’s a character that has truly overcome something many are faced with. He’s completely inspiring. And, I love Phoebe even more for never letting his diagnosis come between them even when he tried to let it.
Honestly, I loved watching this couple interact so much. It’s magical watching Bayou find the one person he is meant to be with . . . and also become a father all at the same time! Watching him learn to express his feeling of love for both ladies in his life was breathtaking. Phoebe is also tough as nails and exactly what Bayou and young Isa need. I have to say, I’m also in love with her family, especially her dad, Sam!
There’s plenty of action in this book, as Bayou’s daughter comes with one heck of a back story. One Chance, Fancy is exciting, sweet, romantic and extraordinarily unique. It’s my favorite of the series so far. 5 stars!
This was the cutest book ever! Two perfectly matched souls, Benson Bayou Beauregard has Aspergers but he’s a brilliant guy. Phoebe is a curious, inquisitive teenager. When they meet, she never saw anything different about him, he was perfect for her. She was fifteen and he was eighteen. They got stuck on one another but Bayou felt he was not good enough for her, he was too messed up. It too years, but he worked on himself until he was the man he thought could be good for her.
Phoebe was always stuck on him but since he went away to the Army and kept away from her, she didn’t think he wanted her. When they reconnect eight years later, it was their time and what a fabulous time it was.
Bayou got the surprise of his life when he receives news he has a daughter three years old. He thinks he’s doesn’t have what it takes to be a father, but when Phoebe (A.K.A Fancy) convinces him he does have the qualities of a good person and a good father, he takes on the role. Whenever he starts to freak out, only Fancy’s presence gives him peace. He’s obsessed with birds and Fancy has a hawk for a pet. Little Isa was mistreated all her short life, but she connects with Fancy immediately. She’s a brilliant little girl and her father’s mini-me. It’s all made for them.
The book is full of good times, family, all their little and interesting quirks, problems with ex-girlfriends, prison fun times, a psycho adopted sister, and a hateful father who calls his son “stupid”. I loved both main characters; they are full of heart, funny moments, and quirky personalities. As you read the book you realize how perfect they are for each other, what a great fit they are, and how entertaining this cute love story is.
Gah!! Lani Lynn Vale and her books have become an addiction that I can not sate. I loved Bayou from My Bad and could not wait for his story. I hoped that his heroine was Phoebe because of her obvious draw towards him but I could not have been happier to see their connection in this book. This story was sexy, emotional and just so real. I loved every word!
I absolutely love the Bear Bottom MC series. Each story is gritty, emotional yet so swoony. Bayou and Phoebe were just so darn delicious. He was so honest and blunt but you could see their chemistry and attraction from a mile away. I loved their story and their unwavering love and the way Phoebe was a staunch supporter and protector of her man. She was absolutely amazing and my favorite LLV heroine to date!! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
Awww, Bayou & Phoebe’s story is super sweet (and toward the end, super H O T)! They’ve been protective of each other since the moment they met, but didn’t realize the other felt the same way. When fate continues to put them in the same path, they finally are able to form a friendship to romance that withstands everything tossed in their direction.
I enjoyed their story & really loved their HEA! : )
I have been so excited for Bayou. Like, omg I need Bayou now excited. His book was more than I could ever hope for. I love how LLV gives us these amazing guys, some of who (like Bayou) feel that because they are different they don’t deserve what everyone else has. She smashed those thoughts to pieces when she gave Phoebe to Bayou. With so many people with autism and on the spectrum, it’s awesome when authors write about them and give more light to the struggles they face.
Bayou has quickly jumped up and passed everyone on my number one book boyfriend list. He’s so endearing and sweet while also being his unique blunt self. When you pair that with the introverted yet protective Phoebe, sparks fly like crazy. Phoebe doesn’t care what people think of Bayou, she finds him amazing and so worthy even though he doesn’t feel worthy. I love the man that Bayou became and I’m so happy LLV showed the struggles he went through to become that man.
Obviously this one is a must read. Between the incredible writing, the amazing characters, and the sweet and funny banter, you will be hooked from start to finish!
Lord have mercy! I thought I had found my ultimate men in Big Papa and Silas, but dammit if Bayou hasn’t stolen my heart, all over again. This man … THIS. MAN. Slightly damaged, exceptionally flawed and a no holds barred attitude means one hell of a catch.
At a very young age, Fancy knew the moment that she met (then Benson) that he was something wonderful. He considered himself damaged, she considered him special. Special in the way of amazing. She was mesmerized by him and he felt something as well. However, Bayou never felt good enough and let the time pass. He grew and became the man that his father said he could never become. Successful and confident, he met his match in Fancy. However … his past catches up to him and he is unsure about how to proceed. Will Fancy stick by his side or allow him to fly solo?
Lani never ceases to amaze me. No matter what, her stories always pull me in and make me fall in love. I can’t wait for Ezekiel and Jubilee’s story, coming soon!
Oh, how much I love this series!!! These two are like an everyday couple. Bayou sure is dangerously sexy!
When your favorite couple, from a beloved series, children get books you dive right in.
Bayou lord I love that man; I think someone has finally knocked Sam off his number one spot for me.
Loved both him and Phoebe as well as the storyline. Good flow well developed characters and an interesting twist.
First I have to say that which each book I read in this series I fall deeper and deeper in love with these guys. They are rough and tough and no holds bar but they have a heart underneath all that. Lani has crafted this world where I feel at home. I feel like they are my family and every time something happens to them I get anxious wondering what is going to happen next. So One Chance, Fancy had me swooning for Bayou and wanting him to finally get his HEA after everything he has suffered through. Dealing with his mental illness has not been easy for him but once he got a hold on it he was all set and became this wonderful man.
Bayou is the warden of the prison and the President of The Bear Bottom Guardians. He loves his job and he loves his club. He also is in love with Fancy and he is trying everything possible to get her and he almost has her until a situation comes up and she decides that Bayou needs to handle that before she will even get involved. I loved hoe Fancy stood up to Bayou and did not take any of his shenanigans. She called him out on his shiz and kept him on his feet but at the end of the day she loved him and is willing to give him a chance.
