National Bestseller Sometimes it’s not only what we plant but where we’re planted. Now raising their four-year-old daughter, Indiana, alone, after Joey’s passing, Rory Feek digs deeper into the soil of his life and the unusual choices he and his wife, Joey, made together and the ones he’s making now to lead his family into the future. When Rory Feek and his older daughters moved into a run-down … daughters moved into a run-down farmhouse almost twenty years ago, he had no idea of the almost fairy-tale love story that was going to unfold on that small piece of Tennessee land . . . and the lessons he and his family would learn along the way.
Now two years after Joey’s passing, as Rory takes their four-year-old daughter Indiana’s hand and walks forward into an unknown future, he takes readers on his incredible journey from heartbreak to hope and, ultimately, the kind of healing that comes only through faith.
A raw and vulnerable look deeper into Rory’s heart, Once Upon a Farm is filled with powerful stories of love, life, and hope and the insights that one extraordinary, ordinary man in bib overalls has gleamed along the way.
As opposed to homesteading, this is instead a book on lifesteading as Rory learns to cultivate faith, love, and fatherhood on a small farm while doing everything, at times, but farming. With frequent stories of his and Joey’s years together, and how those guide his life today, Rory unpacks just what it means to be open to new experiences.
“This isn’t a how-to book; it’s more of a how we, or more accurately, how He, God, planted us on a few acres of land and grew something bigger than Joey or I could have ever imagined.”

This father loves his daughters immensely. He is so devoted to their well-being. He would move heaven and earth to provide the needs for them. Turning the barn into a school for his youngest daughter was giving at its best. I can imagine the world of learning and achieving that takes place inside that special learning environment. This father was given such a gift in his daughters. He shows readers how far he is willing to go to be the dad his girls need.
So enjoyed the Singer/Song writer’s love story. As tragic as life can be’ God is with you and God is good! So inspired by this read. Am looking forward to attending the Cowboy Church and visiting the family cafe. And following where his life leads him and his lovely youngest daughter. Together they are creating new stories.
It was hard for me to put the book down. I have heard about the author and knew a tiny bit of his story. I enjoyed his honesty about his family, friends and faith. I would recommend the book to anyone looking for a honest faith building story.
Rory Feek is a wonderful storyteller and he tells us stories about his life. As I was reading, it felt just like I was sitting on his porch with him, the stories just come alive. I liked his philosophy and as it said on the cover, Lessons on growing Love, Life, and Hope on a new frontier. It was a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
I have been a fan of Joey & Rory’s since the first time I heard their music. It was good to see how Rory & family have adjusted since Joey’s death. I still feel a strong connection this family and their faith in God’s plan.
I love this book, you can tell he writes from the heart. A true family love story!
Told from the heart. Some of the grammar is incorrect, but the story is a wonderful faith-filled inspirational one.
I enjoyed this book, very easy to read and interesting.
This book gives details about the life of Rory Feek as she was diagnosed with cancer and her ultimate death. It also talks about life without Rory and raising Indiana the couple’s child.
I love everything there ever was about Joey and Rory…and now its so heartwarming to see how Rory is working thru his grief and loving his girls…I too lost my husband (love of my life) 4 years ago and feel I know his emotional levels, highs and lows so well…”never over it…just gotta get thru it”
The true story of Joey and Rory Feek… Very good.
I would highly recommend this book. It is very touching and honest. A very good book
It was really good . I like true stories and this really made you think how important life really is.
I read two chapters in this book and deleted it from my Kindle…it was suppose to be a Christian book but it was far from it. I was extremely disappointed and certainly would not recommend it
Once Upon a Farm is a peek into Rory Feek’s life before and after the death of his wife, Joey. Made me laugh, cry, and made me think about my life and decisions.
It was a very inspirational book. Showed true love at its best.
