Seldom do you run across a heroine as strong as the one Sharon Sala has written in Once in a Blue Moon. Cathy is determined to start a new life and she knows how to go about it. She leaves everything she has and everyone she knows to hike alone across the country to escape a powerful and abusive ex-husband. When her old life starts catching up to her, she fights back to keep the life and love she has found in Blessings, Georgia.
Duke doesn’t believe a life including love is in the cards for him–until he scoops Cathy up off the ground and into his arms. He embraces the strength she portrays, but is right there to protect her when she needs a little help. Awesome hero.
I was drawn into this book right from the first page. Great story telling by Ms. Sala.
Such an emotional and compelling story. Sharon Sala creates strong characters that face adversity but never lose their heart, passion or generosity. Cathy Terry is all alone and on the run from an abusive ex-husband. She escapes to Blessings, Georgia. With all she has faced she could have become a bitter recluse. She won’t allow that to happen. She will face danger and fall apart later. Duke Talbot, a confirmed bachelor, is there to catch her when she does. He provides the strength and love she needs. Even though she is new in town, she discovers a need in the community everyone else has overlooked. Cathy has the means and the heart to make a difference and she takes charge to get the job done. Sharon Sala is my absolute favorite author of all time and for the last 15 years I have periodically dropped her a note now and then to let her know how much she is appreciated and the joy I find in reading her books.
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for this advanced review copy. In return, I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Welcome back to Blessings!
Cathy Terry has recently went through a divorce and because of a threat her ex-husband made, she went on the run. She ends up in the little town of Blessings and decides to stay for the winter. When Duke Talbot is running some errands in Blessings, he happens to see Cathy take a hard fall while jogging and stops to give her some help. Who knew this would lead to finding love?
In this 10th installment, we have cattle-rustling, a runaway dog, a runaway kid, a slumlord, a rabid coyote, 2 people falling in love, a stalking ex and a mall shooting. Peak your interest yet?
Every book in this series is just so fantastic. Sometimes you read a series and there’s usually 1 book that’s not that wonderful, but NOT with this series. Each one is amazing and each new one is better than the one before it.
These stories are like coming home after being gone for awhile. You get to catch up with old friends and meet the new ones that have come to town.
One of the things I love about this series, is how the author gives little POV switches to different people in town. Some are just bystanders to the the Hero & Heroine and some have little side stories of their own. I know some people who might not like that, because they would be afraid that things would not get settled or that it may interfere with the major story line, but rest assured, this does not happen in these books. The extra plots always go with the story in some way and in my opinion, feel natural, easy and fun to read.
Sharon Sala is a magnificent writer. She knows how to grab your attention, then hang on to it till your eyes have crossed and you realize you’ve forgotten to eat or use the restroom in hours. I’m never disappointed when I read a story from her.
* ARC provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for an honest review*
This is one series that I hope continues for a very long time!
Cathy Terry did the unthinkable, she divorced Blaine Wagner. Blaine is a billionaire with a name that is well known. The day of the divorce, Blaine’s parting words were one of a threat. Knowing that her every move was being watched, Cathy devised a plan.
Her plan got her to Blessings, Georgia, where she hoped to stay for the winter. Cathy stayed under the radar, until one day while out running she fell and Duke Talbot witnessed the fall and takes her to the hospital. Once Cathy is ready to be released, through the grapevine that she needs a ride home, Duke offers again.
Duke Talbot lives with his brother and his wife. Together, the brothers work their parents’ farm. Duke the older of the two, has always been one to look after everyone. He can’t help himself, but to continue to insert himself into Cathy’s life.
Just as Cathy has caught the Duke’s eye, he has caught Cathy’s. What has started out as friendship, quickly becomes something more.
As Cathy begins to feel more confident, she makes a run to the next town and runs smack into an old acquaintance. Cathy knows that word will get back to Blaine, but she hopes he has decided to move on and let her be.
The people in Blessings are starting to know Cathy, so when a man shows up at the B&B and asks questions. Rachel Goodhope becomes suspicious and decides to make sure Cathy knows someone is asking about her. Cathy is sick of running, and decides she’s going to take matters into her own hands, unsure how it will unfold, Cathy begins driving around to locate and confront the man, who can ruin the life she has rebuilt.
I love revisiting the town of Blessings. A town filled with good people who care about everyone else, and easily welcome a newcomer into their folds. Feels like being with old friends while reading.
I received an ARC from NetGalley via Sourcebooks Casablanca and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
It was good to be back in Blessings, Georgia. To me this is small town living at it’s best. I just loved Cathy’s story. From her childhood to her happily ever after, I enjoyed every bit of it. She is a strong woman, who has some now not so hidden talents. Course there has to be other characters in the story and these are a special bunch. The Talbot’s and friends are awesome! The love and compassion they feel for each other is what I think all of want in our lives. I wasn’t ready for it to end, but end it must. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
I have read all of the Blessings, Georgia books and I can honestly say that this is one of those series that Sharon Sala has continued to write excellent and enjoyable additions to it! We first met Duke Talbot in A Piece of My Heart (Blessings #4) and even though Once in a Blue Moon stands alone I recommend going back and reading that story because Duke was quite the character in it! He and his brother run a ranch outside of Blessings and Duke is a great guy but he’s rather stuck in his ways so he hasn’t met the right lady that fits him. Well his luck is changing when he drives by as sees Cathy Terry fall and twist her ankle while jogging in Blessings. Cathy is new to Blessings. She has a troubled past and life has led her here to heal. She and Duke hit it off right away but you can only outrun your past for so long before it finds you. This time Cathy isn’t alone because not only will Duke be standing by her side but the entire town of Blessings is there to take care of one of it’s own! In times like these I need these uplifting stories of love, hope and kindness. Blessings may be a fictional town but I love reading about it and getting lost in its pages. As with all the books in the series it is full of love, hope, inspiration, kindness and just a bit of heat.
This is my first time in Blessings, GA and my first time reading something written by Sharon Sala. This is a series, but I don’t believe one really needs to read in order. The main characters of this story is Cathy, a in hiding from her abusive ex-husband who hikes into Blessings. And Duke the good looking, good guy farmer / rancher. They meet when Cathy twists her ankle while jogging….Duke to the rescue. The other characters in the book must have had their own stories, which makes you want to read the previous books.
This is my own opinion…..a little on the to unrealistic level. Hard to believe there is such a town, or that the characters are that wonderful. Fast read if you want to just getaway from the real world. Thank you SourceBooks Casablanca for the ARC and opportunity to read and review.
This talented writer had my full attention on page one. It took only until the second page for her to secure my complete devotion and investment in the characters, and her gift for storytelling is exquisite and unparalleled. Blessings, GA, is one of those delightful, inviting, fictional small towns I would give anything to be able to live in.
Sala then adds in quirky, endearing, overwhelmingly relatable characters with human shortcomings. She breaks our hearts with their challenges, knits it back together with their healing and has us celebrating their victories as if they’re our own.
Cathy Terry stumbles upon Blessings, GA, after divorcing her abusive, controlling husband and backpacking across the country in an effort to hide from him. She’s looking to make a new start and keep a low profile, so she hasn’t met many of the good folks in Blessings.
That all changes when Duke Talbot sees Cathy take a nasty fall while she’s jogging and charges in to help her. Between Duke’s assistance and his inadvertently spreading the news about Cathy’s injury, it’s not long before half the folks in Blessings are stopping by Cathy’s place to offer help. As anyone from a small town knows, when you’re welcomed into the fold you become family, and family protects its own. And when Cathy’s past catches up with her, she’s going to need their help.
This book feels like coming home to a place where mistakes are forgiven, everyone lends a hand, and hurting souls find healing and redemption. With a little suspense, a sweet romance, and a ride that takes you through every emotion, Cathy and Duke’s story is one you won’t want to miss. After just one taste, you’ll fall in love with Blessings and find yourself reading your way through this inspiring, heartwarming, phenomenal series.
*Thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the early galley of this book, and my apologies to the twenty other books I had in front of this one on my TBR.
