Complex, Fun Read
This author has a lot of elements in this book: time travel, the fae, a dragon, magic, romance, and suspense. I might be forgetting a few! For a book with so many parts to it, I found it was very well done. The action flowed at a believable pace despite what could theoretically have been unbelievable elements. When our heroine is thrust back into 1900 Canada, we can see and appreciate her confusion—as well as the confusion of the mountie who rescued her. I especially adored the early interactions between the mountie and our heroine. He was clearly a man of his times, certainly not prepared for a woman of ours. He was sweet, strong, and endearing. The author clearly did a lot of research into the historical and magical elements. If you like time-travel shifter romantic fantasies that have many interesting, though wildly dissimilar aspects, you may very well enjoy this complex but well-written story.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is the first time that I read a book by D.Lieber and it won’t be my last one. I really loved ‘Once in a Black Moon’ starring Erin Nichols a Chicago journalist. This is a time travel suspense which takes her heroine from present time to 1900 in Alberta, Canada. The French translation of some words was perfect. I mention this detail, because it is not always the case. I love time travel story, and this one didn’t disappointed me! The hero is named Wynn ‘Delaforet’, which means in French ‘From the Forest’ as he is a Canadian Mountie. So cute! If you like paranormal suspense with fae and magic, then this book is for you!
Present day – Erin’s story starts as she is about to embark on a train and is suddenly pushed by someone! She awakes in the arms of a cute Canadian Mountie in Alberta, Canada but in the 1900. Together they embark on an amazing journey of twists and turns. Erin starts to have feelings and desires she never knew she was capable of! She soon begins to wonder where she truly belongs, the past or future!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from her publisher and NetGalley! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Journalist Erin Nichols’ story doesn’t truly begin until she is fired from her job and then on her way home she is pushed in front of a subway train and “dies”. Erin wakes up in 1900 in the care of a Canadian Mountie who claims to have found her half dressed and half dead in the forest. Erin eventually learns that she is in a reincarnation. She can remember who she was in the future, but not who she is in the past. Wynn, the Mountie and Mitiica, the fae both took a part in rescuing her and soon Erin becomes attracted to both of them and things get even more complicated when secrets are revealed. Add in a murder investigation on Indian land, a jealous lady, a husband and Erin’s attempted murder and you have a story that will take you on a wonderful, event-filled journey that you hope will not end. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I purchased an autographed ARC of this book from the author and I am willingly and freely leaving this review. All thoughts expressed here are strictly my own.
