One of the first classic historical romances I remember really pulling at my heartstrings. This is a typical Regency love story: young and innocent beauty reforms a troubled rake through the power of her love (and great sex). However, I still adore it and occasionally reread it, and I still tear up at the dénouement. Perhaps because it was one of my first?
Judith McNaught has always been one of my favorite Romantic authors and this is one of her very best books. I have not read this one for about 30 years but will return to it soon now that I have been reminded of JMcN. Hope that it shows up on bookbub site.
Wonderful book, great characters!
It’s apparent that Judith McNaught knows how to write fun and witty heroines, but she needs to work on her heroes. This one has a sad and mistreated past that starts out with a wham on page two and more is revealed as it goes along. His cruelty and coldness is in direct proportion to the damage that past has had on him. He does turn around and it is apparently that this reformed rake makes a good husband even if it takes a while and a metaphorical skillet to the head.
The biggest obstacle to my enjoyment is the melancholy over all the other poor destroyed romances of some of the other characters. Poor sweet Andrew, her mother, her father, etc…
And what the heck happened to her sister Dorothy?

“He will love only once—but it will be for always.”
Oh boy! I’m so glad I’d went blind for this, and I finally decided to read this! This book is full of angst, tension, heartache especially our male lead Jason Fielding, he has a dark and hurtful past that leads him to be a hardened person. That’s why when he saw Victoria carrying a piglet, he knows that Tory is different, a ray of sunshine.
This book is slooooow burn, has great building of characters. I absolutely loved the banter, the push and pull element. Whilst I’m reading this my emotion are all over the place.
And I can say I’m so excited to read other books by this author.

A beautiful spirited American and a lord who needed love. Their interactions are sometimes hard to read…but one can’t help cheering for happy ending. Lively characters, passion and romance.
It’s always hard for me to pick a favorite Judith McNaught book because pretty much all of her titles always stand out as the gold standard of romance, but Once and Always has always held a special place in my heart and is one of those books I’ve read dozens of times. It really is the perfect comfort read.
This book is BRIMMING with romantic tension and angst, yet the conflict between the hero and heroine is organic and relatable. Jason and Victoria both have tragic pasts and heartbreak that colors their interactions with each other and this book does a slow burn in a truly exquisite way. Their banter and chemistry is off the charts and firmly cements them as one of my favorite romantic pairings. As with all of McNaught’s books, the ensemble cast is equally delightful.
This is one of those EPIC romances that will truly steal your heart and I highly recommend it for romance lovers. It’s McNaught at her finest which is a truly magical thing to behold. Enjoy!
