I believe one of the best series of a dark and twisted tale of 2020. And yes, I’m predicting that after just reading book 1. Sassy Southern
I’ve loved Pepper’s work since Monsters in the dark and all the in between work and let me tell you this is one of the best work she’s ever done. Dangerously in love with books

YUM!!! I LOVE a well-written, dark romance story! Pepper Winters delivers in a BIG way with Once A Myth, the first book in her Goddess Isles Series. Her amazing writing talent is on full display here in a story that is sure to grab you by the throat from page 1 and drag you into a world you can only deem enticing, horrifying, enthralling and captivating all at the same time. Told in dual POV, the main characters, Sullivan Sinclair and Eleanor Grace, are so well-drawn and powerful that your imagination is under siege to their every action and reaction. Under Winters’ deft writing ability, they come alive and jump off the pages into your head from the get-go, making it difficult to do anything else but turn page after page until you reach the end. An end, by-the-way, that will leave you stunned and emotionally bleeding, all the while begging for more. I’m not exactly sure how I’ll be able to survive until Book 2, Twice a Wish, is released. Somehow I will because I can’t imagine not knowing what happens next! If the rest of the series is as compelling as this incredible beginning, you will not want to miss it. Once A Myth needs to be on your e-reader, in your hands, and being read as soon as it is LIVE. As a dark romance lover, I highly recommend it!
This story is phenomenal!! If you are a reader who enjoys darker romance stories then I undoubtedly need to say to you that ‘YOU MUST READ THIS’! You need to go in blind and be prepared to be mind blown!
Once a Myth is the first book in the Goddess Isles series and I couldn’t have wished for a better start. From the very first page I was addicted to the story and I have not been able to put my kindle down at all. I couldn’t have been more connected to the characters, in particular Eleanor, without actually taking their place.
I just know we are all going to be head over heels in love with Sullivan, there is something about that man that draws you in. He’s an enigma and he walked along a fine line tittering between whether I absolutely adored or disliked him in this book. Sully has definitely met his match with Eleanor who is incredibly strong and determined. There is this fabulous push and pull battle that goes on between the pair of them and I am unsure whose side I am actually on. The chemistry between them is combustible and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
This is an incredible story that Pepper Winters has written perfectly. It is dual POV which enables us to understand both Sully and Eleanor’s thoughts and feelings. I could not have anticipated some of the scenes that happen which is always satisfying. The heat in this book is off the charts. You will be desperate to finish the book to see how the story plays out but you’ll never want it to end. I don’t shy away from cliff-hanger endings but this one I feel may be torturous, but on the other hand I am certain the anticipation to find out what happens next will be immense and until Twice a Wish releases, it is inevitable that all the possibilities will remain constant in my thoughts – which I will love!
This story is intriguing, spellbinding and full of angst and suspense. Sullivan and Eleanor will have you on the edge of your seat. I definitely enjoyed their interactions; especially their back and forth banter. Its four-play with words. Their chemistry was undeniable. Pepper is amazing at delivering stories where your darkest desires brings you the greatest pleasure and this story left me feeling euphoric. I was hooked. I want more. I need more. I’m craving more!!! I cannot wait for the next book. You do not want to miss out on in my opinion, what could be one of her best series yet. It will definitely give her other series a challenge for that title.
When I hear the words: Pepper Winters is releasing a new book… I am sold! No matter what kind of book funk I’m in, her words wrap around me and pull me into a different world. I am sucked into her creation and everything else ceases to exist.
The characters are amazing. Eleanor Grace lives up to her name. She is full of grace, dignity and displays immense strength and poise throughout her ordeal. You can’t help but be in awe of her. She is like a goddess of ancient times and refuses to bow to anyone. I absolutely love her. Her fierceness and resolve is amazing. She is reserved until she is pushed too far.
Now Sully Sinclair… oh boy… I want to hate him… I do but there’s just something about him that makes want to cave and give in to him. The man is pure decadency. Sin wrapped in a delicious package. He is deceptively calm but you don’t want to anger him or else you’ll unleash a beast. Now would that be such a bad thing? 😉
Now when I got to the end of the book… I mean I was flabbergasted. I wasn’t sure what I just read. It’s dark and dirty and wrong and yet oh so good. Nothing and no one is ever just black and white, good or bad. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. It was amazing! I am so excited for the next book. The countdown has already begun!
This was one spectacular read! Even though we know where this story begins since it goes back to Tess and Q’s story, there is still a mystery surrounding the hero, if that’s how you view him, some may not. And let’s not forget the flaming hot scenes between these two characters.
There is so much intricacy, mystery and contradiction with Sully Sinclair. He’s an alpha you love to hate with more respect for animals than a human beings. He’s shows no empathy whatsoever, yet he can show signs of tenderness. A total enigma of a man we cant quite figure out, but there is so much more to learn.
Eleanor Grace, or Jinx as a goddess, is a very confident and steadfast woman who has been taken against her will, but she shows no signs of cowering to her nemesis. We find ourselves rooting for Eleanor and hoping things will be different, but that’s not how Pepper leads us through her maze of a story.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and the pages just melted one after another. Definitely a winner in my book and the ending left me screaming inside and out! I can’t wait for the second installment. I need it stat!!!
First off, I would say this book is dark. There may be triggers for some. So beware. Second, this is a crazy, crazy story. The imagination to write this floors me. Pepper Winters is a genius in her dark tales. I know this is going to be a crazy ride I’ll take with Sully and Jinx. I can’t wait!
I am equal parts enthralled and appalled with this story. It was a combination of WTF and OMG. I could not put it down! I had to see what happened. I had to see how and if Eleanor continued to handle herself. I had to see what twisted punishment Sullivan would come up with next. I had to see! This book had many ‘yin and yang’ attributes woven into it. The beautiful location, but still an unwilling captive. The same basic freedoms, but one night a week everything was stripped away. Luxuries like food and health care, plus whatever you want (within reason), but again, that one night a week where everything was stripped away. A situation where it is paradise, essentially a paid vacation, except one night a week, which is abhorrent and debasing, when it isn’t something you chose. I was in awe at the writing and creativity of this plot line and I threw the book at that ending…giant cliffhanger, but this was a great read.
I was given these as ARC copies from Pepper and her team.
I thought I was getting TWO BOOKS! not the whole series!
Thank you for these. I have wanted to read them for a while.
I have read Tess’s story, or at least the first two books, I couldn’t bring myself to read any more, That Shyte was dark!
But, onto the Goddess Isles books.
Although this had it’s dark times, it was essentially a wonderful story of a woman saving her man from the dark path he was headed down. I loved that Sully knew the moment he saw Jinx that she was his, he just couldn’t deal with the new and different feelings he felt.
Fighting all the way, he falls more and more for his Goddess Jinx, but firmly believes he can’t be loved. As much as she wanted to go home at the start, Jinx can’t leave now, until she repairs this broken man, but along the way, mixed in with the dark and doom, Sully realises he’s hit the jackpot with Elenore and chooses to change his ways, and accept that love really is for everyone.
It was awesome to get a little visit from Q too, but I still haven’t got the power inside me yet to go back there! Just like reading the son and his Hope. I can’t do it!
Loved this story, but boy! What an epic challenge to read the whole lot back to back!
Wow… Utterly speechless. I’m in awe of the talent and skills of this author whose writing truly sucks you in until the very last page with your heart in your throat. This book was exactly that and might I say one of her best work yet because I was blown away with the intensity and rawness of the characters and their twisted tale. It was dark, addictive and so damn erotic. And that jaw dropping cliffhanger left me stunned and on to the next book. I highly recommend this to dark romance lovers. You’re missing out.
WOW. Pepper is an author who could write anything and I would read it and this is an amazing start to what I can tell is going to be an addictive series. There is nothing subtle about this story it pulled me in from the start with characters that will fascinate and delight. Are you going to like everyone absolutely not but to me that is part of the beauty of Pepper’s wrting. An author who can give you the dark and morally questionable Sully but still make the reader love him is one with skill. Eleanor is such a strrong heroine and I loved how she pushed his buttons and stood up to him regardless of the consequences. Don’t be fooled by the idyllic surroundings not everything in paradise is a shiny as it first appears.
I am equal parts anxious and excited about what is next for this series.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again: I freakin’ hate cliffhangers. This first book was free for a limited time, so I’m sure the sequel costs a few bucks at least. The idea is amazing, the characters are seriously interesting, and some serious sexytimez. But the biggest one of all is at the end. At the cliffhanger. Really annoyed.
I don’t know why I waited so long to read this series! It’s been on my Kindle since it came out. I’ve read several (most) of the author’s other works so it was great to pick up references to other series for a bit of nostalgia.
Ok, so I have had this fantasy since before I really knew what some of this stuff was (someone should have been monitoring the reading choices of middle school me better) and most of it was actually summed up in this book which felt so surreal. I love Eleanor’s fiery personality and the way she’s dealing with adversity. Sully is our overdramatic diva who can’t give in to his dirty desires so he pouts and fights his feelings and causes most of the drama.
I already have the next book in the series, so instead of sleeping at 1:30 am I’m thinking about starting another book. Sleep is for pansies!
Rated:5/5
Heat:5/5
Angst:5/5
I read this last year and am just now getting around to reviewing.
I’m rating this for the entire series as a whole instead of for each book. Point being, I absolutely LOVED the journey of Sully and Jinx!
Captured, sold, and enslaved to a man who is god of his island. The Goddess Isles. Given a goddess name and no choice, Jinx must now serve several years in service to different men as she gives them every last fantasy they can ever imagine. The only man she wants is the one she can never have, the one holding the keys to the kingdom and her freedom.
This is a must read!!! MUST!!!
This is a dark series, there are triggers. Your hard will beat heart and fast and you won’t want to see it all come to an end.
Triggers: forced, mental abuse and manipulation.
Absolutely a must read! This book killed me! So many twists and turns. The ups and downs were insane. Completely additive in true Pepper fashion and I need more! Devoured this one! This series is going to be phenomenal!!!
An absolute page turner. Dark and twisted with a fantastical setting. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to read the entire series!
This book is edgy and very dark, it is still sexy and all the feels a good dark romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
I’m a HUGE Pepper Winters whore so it’s quite surprising that I’m rating it 4 stars. I usually rate all her books 5star. I thought maybe the buildup is going too slow? at times I was getting frustrated but she has never disappointed me ever so I’m continuing the journey. You can tell this is going to be fucked up.
Great
good written story
Annoyingly left with a cliffhanger.
