#1 bestselling author Ken Follett tells the inspiring true story of the Middle East hostage crisis that began in 1978, and of the unconventional means one American used to save his countrymen. . . . When two of his employees were held hostage in a heavily guarded prison fortress in Iran, one man took matters into his own hands: businessman H. Ross Perot. His team consisted of a group of … group of volunteers from the executive ranks of his corporation, handpicked and trained by a retired Green Beret officer. To free the imprisoned Americans, they would face incalculable odds on a mission that only true heroes would have dared. . . .

Ken Follett just does it brilliantly, over and over again.
A bit too much detail and long but exciting
While reading this fascinating account of the rescue of two hostages who were employed by Ross Perot’s EDS company in Iran right before the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979, I was completely amazed at the actions taken by Ross Perot. His dedication to the hostages and their families and his determination to have them released from imprisonment was more than admirable. In addition, his drive and willingness to help these men, placing his own safety at risk, motivated other employees to act accordingly, all risking extreme danger in order to do so. I was totally absorbed in Ken Follett’s narration and the research and personal interviews he conducted in order to keep as close to the actual events as possible. A truly extraordinary story based on a perilous situation!
An excellent book. Describes a real world situation in way that lets you understand the hazards of every day life in the mid east. Ross Perot was indeed a character.
The historical period covered in this book should rank up there with the Holocaust as events for the world to remember. Is there still “required reading” in school? If so, this should be on the list
An exciting real story. Great background on conditions in Iran.
Great background into the events of the early Iranian conflict.
as always Follet is the best. I loved it as did my husband.
Found this book easy to read and it kept me reading very late at night because it was hard to put down.
What a great story about an actual event that happened when I was still too young to know about it! I enjoyed reading this fact based book and it gave me a better appreciation of the freedom we have in America!
This is an old book but still a good read. Great author!
An interesting recap of the Perot and EDS team’s escape from Iran during the fall of the Shah. This was the beginning of the real Muslim fanatics turning the world upside down.
Great writer. Great true story. Very informative!
Overall the book is as described. I listened to it on audible and found it very dry and fast. It did make me a fan of Ross Perot though!
Great book.
This is not one of Ken Follett’s better reads. It factual but there’s real no character development. There are far too many players to keep track of and many of the players have no real part in the story. It’s a long, tedious read.
It was a little hard getting started but once I got past all the facts, it got more interesting.
Wish I’d read this in the 1980’s. Wonderful re-telling of a time of upheaval in Iran & one group’s response to their co-workers peril.
It was a different reading from my favorite writer. And it gave me another view of a real man of our times
Definitely worth the read.
