One day changed their mortal lives . . .
And one night turned my kind into monsters.
When Alessa awoke the morning of the festival for Hades, she expected nothing more than a night at the bonfires with her charming best friend. She never expected the rest . . .
Not meeting the man she would end up promised to in marriage.
Not the desperate fight to save a lost princess.
And certainly … end up promised to in marriage.
Not the desperate fight to save a lost princess.
And certainly not the monsters who struck the festivities that night.
So when the town blames Alessa for the bloodshed and chaos, she never imagined her life would depend on the trust of the stranger she’s set to marry and the strength of an unspoken love.
In one night, monsters would change her fate.
Monsters like me.

I love the premise of mixing the old (known myths and mythology) with a new twist. On Wings and Ash is a story that takes what you thought you knew and spins it all anew. Great read.
A VERY GREAT ADVENTURE
In Ancient Greece, under the supervision of the young Alessa, very early that morning, the goose Philon and his host Pyx Philyx, awoke in very good humor.
Philyx and his goose stopped to greet another Pyx : Taryx and his beef Tarris.
They were eagerly waiting for news from the scouts/wanderers who had left to gather information from Humans…
————-
A very GREAT ADVENTURE to devour, on the theme of the Pyxes, this extraterrestrial people who colonized the spirit of some animals, for lack of having succeeded in colonizing the spirit of Humans.
I loved the very successful characters of the goose Philon/Philyx and that of the courageous Alessa.
The plot is fascinating : an excellent youth/YA novel !
I Hope to read the sequel
A Book To discover.
A surprising twist on YA fantasy, Jo Holloway weaves a tale like none other that I have read. Great pace, great storyline, new idea/concept I had not read before. And the narration was especially creative. The beginning was a little slow-paced, but it will eventually draw you in and keep you wondering what is next. I would love to know more about the Pyx and what exactly they are, and how they came to be. Overall, a quick and entertaining read.

I enjoyed this book. A great blend of myth, reality, magic and romance. If you enjoy this type of story then I recommend this book. It’s a great introduction to the series and I look forward to reading more.
„On Wings and Ash“ by Jo Holloway takes us back for a while to the fantastic world of the Pyx a ancient race that have a symbiotic association with animals. While they can communicate with each other, humans are obvious to their existence with the exception of some gifted persons that have the ability to communicate with the Pyx.
Alessa, unbeknownst to her until the day of the Hades festival, has the gift to communicate with the Pyx, and is through this ability that she really steps into trouble. A day she expected to be full of joy, turns into mayhem due to a fortuitous chain of events, with all fingers pointing at Alessa as the responsible for the bloodshed. Alessa would have to choose her allies carefully, the stranger she is supposed to marry or the long-trusted friend and his unspoken love.
This is a wonderful tale, full of action and twists, don’t let the length fool you. Jo Holloway has written a packed tale, full on action, unexpected twists and mythological references into a page-tuner that offers a brand-new narrative with a Pyx as the narrator of the story. The ancient Greece setting adds an interesting layer to the tale, without being overbearing. All characters are carefully crafted, with strong personalities and have a specific place in the story. A wonderful read for all fantasy fans in special the ones with a soft-spot for the animal kingdom.
