People see what they want to see. They only view what’s on the surface, and they’re easy to fool. I let them see on the outside that I’m a successful businesswoman. My clothes are designer, my makeup flawless, and I live in a high-rise condo in Lennox Hills. They see perfection, not what lies beneath the surface. The real me, the one I keep hidden is a broken-hearted woman who uses the makeup to … makeup to hide her tears. The expensive clothing covers a heart once shattered by love. The walls of my expensive home shelter a lonely woman who hides the fact that deep down she wants to be loved. A woman who is too scared to risk her fragile heart.
For ten years, I’ve managed to hide behind the image of perfection. Only letting people see what’s on the surface.
Until I ran into him.
Now, every raw emotion, every shattered piece of my heart that I buried long ago is exposed outside the protective walls of my high-rise condo. No matter how hard I try, I can’t keep the walls from crumbling. He sees me beyond the image that I’ve created. He says he can handle what’s below the surface, but can I?
On the Surface is a standalone second chance, single dad romance

Jase & Celeste
I was so happy to finally read Celeste story after getting a taste of her in Book 1 The Pick Up.
Celeste is a strong independent women who has become beyond successful with her hard work through out the years and has been at it since graduating from High School. Her exterior is Stone Cold, she’s a rock no one can break but deep down she’s done. She thinks she’s finally ready for the real thing LOVE, and a true relationship. She see’s her best friend Nick and how happy he is with Olivia then there’s Giselle and Killian. She wants what they have. She’s done living the busy life of a entrepreneur.
Jase, Oh Jase! The hunky tattoo artist who has been sacrificing it all for his family since he was young. Single dad and his daughter is his everything. He stays focus on 3 things – Skylar, Family and his tattoo shop. He has no time for dates or drama.
Until a blast from the past comes like a storm. He needs answers to what happen all these years ago and he realizes those feelings he had … Are still there.
Learning how to let go and let someone else love you, for who you are is extremely hard especially for Celeste! At the end LOVE conquers all.
Love these two!!!
This book was fantastic. This was a second chance romance between Jase and Celeste. This was a more emotional read than the other 2 in the series and kept you pulling for them as a couple and for Celeste as she overcame her childhood. Loved this book!
Second Chance romances kick in my anxiety, I always worry that the author may not put my heart back together like I need it to be, and while mine was a little more to the extreme in this case, Nikki did my heart good.
Celeste having been pegged as the character you want to hate, shows that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. There is so much to the story of that person you don’t know, and Celeste is the poster child of that phrase. Wrong side of the tracks, looking to improve her place in the world, misconstrued as a Miss Priss. In comes Jase, tattooed, single dad, stuck in the same boat, but in more of physical way than Celeste. Their distance and heartbreak can be felt in all levels of the heart. You hurt, you ache, you feel their sadness, and then the determination of both hearts as they yearn to find that love they once had…together.
I will say I had a hard time with the flashback in the beginning, but I think once I understood what was coming I got it. It was worth pushing through, cause I was truly rooting for Celeste and Jase. Hoping, praying, keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that they would run to each other. On a more physical reaction level, Nikki did give me a treat as well… can you say pierced?! *swoon* THANK YOU! 🙂 Definitely a worth while read. <3
Celeste seems to just be a stick in the mud to everyone that meets her, but there’s more beneath the surface.
Jase looks like a tough, take no crap kind of man but it’s not what he really is.
Some times mistakes from long ago can haunt you but when you wipe away the fog you see what people really are made of.
If you like second chance romances, you should read this.
When I first read about Celeste in Ash’s previous books in the Imperfect Love series, I did not really like her. Well now she is one of my favorite heroines. Celeste has always been focused on her career and being successful, she has never had time for love or really considered it, especially not after her heart was broken. Then she runs into him again. Jase is a single dad who owns a tattoo shop, when he sees Celeste again he is surprised and is looking for answers. Will these two be able to come back together. Nikki Ash has one an amazing job bringing their relationship to life, I highly recommend it and cannot wait for her next release.
I loved this book. Great storyline and love the characters. Celeste is definitely a character you grow to love from the following books. Jase was a total added bonus.
I loved this book! I couldn’t wait to hear Celeste’s story and why she was the way she was. Nikki did a great job bringing Jase and Celeste together. I hope this couple pops up in future books.
Another amazing read from one of my favorites!! Nikki hit it out of the park with this one We finally get the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the girl we weren’t sure how to feel about!! Celeste was the one we loved to hate and turns out totally love again!! This girl had some walls and Jase was the perfect one to knock em down!! These two were absolute perfection together add in Jases little lady and it really is perfection at its finest
Once you start you wont put it down, from start to finish these two keep you hooked add in everyone else from the series and you have one amazing book!!
Loovvee this book! Second chance romance is my jam! Add a hot single dad to it? Yes please .
I’m so happy we got Celeste’s story. From book one you know there’s way more to her than what she shows “On the Surface”! You want to hate her in book 1 but just can’t! Book 2 you learn bits and pieces more. This story brings it all to light! Celeste is beautifully broken and such a strong heroine. Jase is the “bad boy” who really is just a good man with a big heart!
This is a DANDELION of a book, it blew me away!!! Another five-star book for me…this is a second chance, single dad romance like you’ve haven’t read before. I polished off this story in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down!!! The Pick Up ice queen Celeste seriously made my heart melt and made me cry quite a few times, but Hot & Sexy Jase tattooed my heart with words to live by. Nikki Ash really outdid herself with this one.
ALL THE FEELS. One of my favorite books for 2019!!!
I highly recommend reading THIS BOOK!!!
What’s beneath the surface… her heart. I absolutely LOVED this book. Nikki Ash writes THE BEST characters and in this last installment of The Imperfect Love series, this imperfect couple was my favorite of all. On The Surface is a standalone, but I highly suggest you read the other 2 books in the series if you haven’t, because all the characters are very involved in each other’s lives. In the other books we get to know Celeste a little, but on a very surface level. Just showing us what she lets the world see. Pretty much an ice queen, gold-digger. However, in On The Surface we meet a completely different Celeste. She is one of the best h characters I’ve ever read. There are so many layers to her and I absolutely love each and every one. She is independent, driven, successful, generous, kind, and she has the biggest heart. She gets a second chance at love when she runs back into her imperfectly perfect match Jase. He is a sexy, selfless, a doting father, and forgiving lover. They are opposites who make each other whole. He sees beneath her surface, and watching these two fall back in love was wonderful. I adored their story. I read this book in a day and couldn’t put it down. If you like wicked chemistry, sexy and sweet scenes, deep emotional characters, and a beautiful story line, this is the book for you. Every book Nikki writes becomes a new obsession for me, and I CANNOT want for Quinn’s story.
This is Celeste and Jase’s story and I thoroughly enjoyed their story so much. I completely adored these two and fell in love since the first page. It was so amazing and could not put down at all.
Do you know that little voice inside your head telling you stuff you need to do? Like wanting a book so badly that it looked like it was counting down the days? Yep… It was my head this couple of weeks.
Nikki Ash has presented me with some stellar books that not only had stolen my heart but also my soul.
Each book is even more perfect than the latest and the next one couldn’t come soon enough.
Her writing is raw and wild, intense and emotional, with some perfect hot scenes…
On The Surface is her latest release and it’s the third book from the Imperfect Love series… And what a series this has been.
But just a heads up, you should read The Pickup first, then Going Deep and only then this new book.
This book explores the lives of Jase and Celeste.
Celeste had a dream. A dream of becoming richer than Midas and to find a rich man to support her and to avoid at all costs to fall in love.
Well, she’s rich now, but finding the perfect husband isn’t that easy.
On the outside, she’s a successful businesswoman, cocky as she can be and always full of herself but behind all those layers…
Jase is a tattoo artist focused on raising his daughter and make his business rise. One look at Celeste and he knew but…
I’m stunned ed. Overwhelmed. Ecstatic. Emotional… All at once.
This book was so much more that I was hoping for.
Superb plot, very well written, super engaging and intense. Each chapter was even more intense than the other. It was impossible to stop reading because of the way each chapter ended. It was insane the overload of emotions.
This book came to reinforce that we can’t judge the book by its cover. Every person has many layers and to really see them you must peal every layer.
This book is stunning and it was one of my favorites. I didn’t like Celeste at the beginning of this series but now I love her.
Nikki, you nailed it. This series is stunning and I can’t wait to read the next one. Please don’t take to long…
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I loved this book! After reading Celeste and Jase’s story I feel like a better human being. “And from the chaos of her soul flowed beauty.” On the surface is about whats under the surface; heart, soul and fire.
When I first met Celeste in the previous stories, I didn’t like her one bit. So when I knew her story was coming up, I was thinking that the author would have her work cut out. Amazingly this is a 5 star story that made me love her very much.
Celeste is not who she is on the outside. Inside she has feelings and secrets that keeps to herself. Her past is about to collide with her present. Her past comes with a reminder of what happened when she was 18. Jase never knew why she ran from him all those years ago. But now he’s about to find out.
This is a second chance and single parent type of romance. It’s a beautifully written story with well developed characters that made me feel so much. It was an addicting and captivating romance that had me reading for hours on out. Although this is the third book in the Imperfect Love series, I can safely say that it can be read as a standalone. Bottomline this is a must read.
Story told in a dual POV with an amazing HEA. I strongly recommend this story and the 2 previous ones too.
Celeste. Introduced in the previous books of Imperfect Love, I was just waiting for her story. She had clearly been burned in the past and when we were introduced Jase in Going Deep, it was obvious who had hurt her. Celeste and Jase were young when they meet and quickly fell for each other. However, misunderstandings broke both them and sent them on very different paths in life.
When they meet again, Celeste is a successful model and businesswoman and Jase is a tattoo artist and single father. Watching her friends fall in love has made Celeste realize that she wants that for herself. In takes a little while for Jase and Celeste to clear up their past misunderstandings. However, once that happens their relationship and steamy sexual chemistry is off to the races. On the Surface takes two broken characters and gives them a chance to heal together. It is expertly crafted and a superb read. The reader finds themselves pulled so deep into Jase and Celeste’s love story, they end up not wanting the book to end.
Format: Kindle Edition
Being young and in love can sometimes make you see things that might not be true. Sometimes we do things out of pain and not knowledge. Heartbreak can mess up your views on what true love can really be. This book takes you on an emotional journey that will leave you reading its entirety in one sitting. This was the first book I have read from this author and I look forward to reading more in the future. The writing draws you in and you can’t help but feel the emotions with the characters. I love the second chance aspect and I feel the author told this story beautifully.
I absolutely LOVE these characters! When starting this series Celeste comes across as a total Biotch. (BUT I loved her for it!) Finally in this story we understand where she is coming from and the things that she went through that made her that way. She is such a relatable character when it comes down to it. And I can not resist a single dad that stepped up to the plate when no one else did. It is a great story from start to finish!
I loved Jase and Celeste! They where great together. Skyla I want a book on her I loved her so much. I first didn’t think I would like Celeste. But she grew on me. Jase was amazing.
Disclaimer: I stayed up “WAY TOO LATE” cause I couldn’t put this book down. Then I “HAD TO” write its review. Yes a terrible haunting was happening at the time and truthfully still is. My mind is continually spinning, reliving its telling. Now I am back and prettying up last nights ramblings. Ms. Ash this book is hands down my “FAVORITE” of yours. Gulp, sign and that takes “A LOT” for me to say cause your Fighting Series is “EVERYTHING”. (Hug) Yes I might have a lot of yelling going on as I try to tell you how I feel.
I am “MADLY IN LOVE” with this storyline. We have met Celeste and Jace in a previous book by Nikki Ash but it only skimmed the surface of who and what they are. Hee hee, like my word play there. I know, don’t quit my day job. They were each other’s first loves and misunderstandings tore them apart. Celeste goes on to live out her dreams of becoming a famous model and clothing designer. Go Girl! Jace is a tattoo artist (nummy). His daughter and her love of all things fashion is the icing on the cake and ties their world’s together in a magical way.
Celeste breaks my heart with her mistrust and issues from a neglected childhood. You feel her brokenness from the beginning. Jace has his own wounds though I can’t help but admire how he steps up in the dad department. A-MA-ZING!
One of my favorite parts and lines is in the beginning with Jasper makes a drawing for Celeste. It says “And from the chaos of her soul flowed beauty.” WTH. I am a mess now just thinking about it again. I am drowning in a puddle of emotions.
When you experience the “aa-ha” moments from Celeste and her momma, well lets say it was one of the most beautiful things I have read. Ugh I tear up thinking about it.
Celeste and Jasper take us on a bit of a ride trying to find their way to each other. I will confess the single parent trope is always a win-win. It certainly didn’t disappoint here. Oh it also doesn’t hurt that over the top sexy is woven into this story. Blink, blink, swallowed my tongue. EEEKKKK! SO GOOD!
Holy heck I hope I have not over-shared on this book. I am not a spoiler kind’a gal. Having said that, I could talk about it forever. If I could give this book more than five stars I would. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. Wink! Happy Reading Everyone!
