Is this man: A) a super-hot NFL player, B) the guy you’re sexting, or C) your new boss? If you’re Carrie Herron, the answer is: D) all of the above. First, Carrie starts exchanging steamy text messages with the sexy single dad she meets in line at the grocery store. Then she lands a job as the live-in nanny for the daughter of the Milwaukee Dragons’ newest star. With any luck, she’ll be back on … star. With any luck, she’ll be back on her financial feet before the next cosplay convention rolls around. But when Carrie shows up for work and realizes that her new boss is the guilty pleasure in her phone, she has no choice but to try to keep things professional. Oh, how would Poison Ivy handle a temptation like Seth Chamberlain?
After getting traded from Houston to Milwaukee, Seth’s having a tough time keeping his head in the game, let alone making sure that his daughter is fitting in. So if the only nanny that Madison will tolerate is a grown woman who likes comic books even more than she does . . . well, so be it. Too bad the nanny is also the gorgeous redhead Seth’s been flirting with all this time. But with Carrie’s knowing glances and kissable lips driving him wild, Seth must decide whether he’s ready to put everything on the line.
Don’t miss any of Liz Lincoln’s mouthwatering Milwaukee Dragons novels, which can be read together or separately:

Carrie & Seth … Poison Ivy & Thor (or Batman). These two are totally lovable. Carrie is a nerd, like comic con going nerd, and Seth is a dedicated father first, professional athlete second. Their first meeting is complete fate, and they have this undeniable attraction from the get go. They do a little flirty texting here and there, and the next thing you know, they meet up again – but were completely blindsided. From there, it only gets better, happier, funner, and steamier.
This is a fast, hot read with great world building, characters that you get invested in, with laughs, steam, and drama that everything can relate to.
This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.
WOW!! Loved this steamy love story!! Seth is a professional football player for the Milwaukee Dragons. He’s also a single father to a 12 year old daughter named Madison, aka Maddie. Seth needed to find a nanny to take care of his daughter while he was at games, traveling, etc. Enter Carrie. Carrie was a Science teacher who couldn’t find a job in time for the new school year. She decided to take the job as a nanny to get her bearings and figure out her next step. Whew is all I can say. I absolutely loved this story and the romance between Seth and Carrie. These two had an instant connection and could hardly keep their hands off each other.
Can I just say….I absolutely loved how Carrie was into science and comics. I think this was the first romance I’ve read with the female main character being into these things. It was beyond refreshing and I’m ALL for it in future reads. Carrie loved dressing up in cosplay and going to comic con. I loved getting to know her and her interests. I lived for the comic and Walking Dead references. They were just icing on this already amazing cake.
Seth on the other hand was your typical swoon worthy single dad. I loved seeing him care for his daughter. It was so beautiful to see a man step up and take care of his child no matter what. Seth would’ve done anything and everything for his child. Maddie’s mother wasn’t in the picture because she didn’t want to be. Seth stepped up and became both parents without hesitation. There is nothing more attractive than a present father let me tell you.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I’m all for having two or three more books with this group. This is the first time I’ve read this author but it will not be the last.
It’s an easy read romance book with a cute ending.
I enjoyed this book but it did seem aliitle long. It lost my interest in some places, but will try another by this author.
I like romance but prefer them on the more clean side. This one had too much steam for my tastes.
I was really surprised by this book. I mean, I love romances with athletes and the whole famous guy falls for the normal girl trope, so this looked good. But so often, I’ve been disappointed.
I loved Seth. I could totally picture him as Chris Hemsworth, and that’s not a hard image to spend time with 😉 One of my favorite parts of the book was actually when Seth and Carrie met. I loved seeing them interact in the grocery store isle over feminine hygiene products. He was so uncomfortable and awkward but such a good (albeit misguided) dad for not flinching at what he had to do.
I loved seeing Seth and Carrie get to know each other before she took the job with him. I was actually dreading when she accepting the job/found out that the guy she’d been texting with was going to be her boss. The good thing was, this put the breaks on their growing relationship and allowed more of a friendship to develop between them. That’s not to say the attraction was gone, because it wasn’t, but it allowed them the opportunity to really become friends. I loved watching their relationship progress.
My one issue with the book was Seth’s daughter. I liked her in the beginning. She was frustrating and felt like a real tween but the further I got into the book, the less I liked her. I know that kids can be frustrating and moody and little jerks, but Seth was a good guy and a great dad. And she just got progressively worse. I knew that when she found out about Seth and Carrie things would go bad, and they did. They blew up in the worst way and while I don’t blame Seth for putting his daughter first, I really hated how he didn’t even fight for him and Carrie. He just gave in to his daughter’s demands that he fire her and dump her. And I hated that. He didn’t talk to her, he didn’t tell her how he felt about Carrie, he just gave in. Granted, Carrie didn’t do much fighting herself but I hated that Seth just gave in to his daughter. And then when he finally told his brat point blank how he felt about Carrie, the brat did a 180 and it was just unbelievable to me what came out of her mouth. If she had really believed what she was saying, she would have said it when she and Seth first talked after she found out. But it just felt like damage control at that point.
Going back to something else I loved in this book…the fact that Carrie was into comics and cosplay. That was just cool. Especially since Seth got into it just because the woman he loved and his daughter were into it. He gave it a shot, even dressing up. I got a kick out of “Thor dressing up as Iron Man.” That was something I kept thinking I want to see in a future Marvel movie!
Overall, I really did love this book. I’d definitely recommend it!
This is my first book by this author. It was a little hard for me to get into because it was written in third person. I’m not a fan of third person but I did enjoy some parts of the story. I liked that Seth was a single dad of a twelve year old, he’s a great dad. Carrie and Seth together didn’t really blow me away and I really wish there was an epilogue. That ending felt way too rushed.
Does it make me completely shallow if I admit the cover is what first drew my attention to On the Line? I mean, is anyone surprised? Hello abs. Plus, you know, football player. I’m a sucker for a sports romance, especially when the hero is a football player, so I was all over this one. It was a really fun read.
Carrie and Seth were great. I loved their meet cute and the flirty and downright sexy texts they exchanged after that first meeting. Of course, things got even more interesting when she ended up working for him… The chemistry was still there and their attempts to lock things down didn’t last for very long. What ensued was a fun and sexy storyline, with some feels I really wasn’t expecting if I’m honest. It was easy to root for Carrie and Seth together and separately. I mean, the geeky girl and the football player? Sign me up.
I’m a fan of the Milwaukee Dragons. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the series!
FAVORITE QUOTES
“I think I finally understand what singers mean when they say they’re drunk on a woman.”
Seth is trying his hardest to be a good dad. Unfortunately that means uprooting his daughter from their home in Houston and moving to Milwaukee. At 12, she’s at a difficult age already so it is even rougher to have to start all over. But he’s a good man and he’s doing the best he can. Running into a sexy redhead at the grocery story, and one who is willing to give him feminine hygiene help, has things looking up.
Carrie is having a rough time after losing her job as a teach and not getting any bites on a new one. She’s starting to really stress when she’s rescued by a hottie in the checkout lane. Being able to help him return leads to some sexy flirting. When a possible job lands in her lap, things are definitely looking up … until she discovers her potential new boss is the guy she’s been sexting. Yikes! You have to admire how well she handles it 🙂
I think these two were hotter NOT having sex than most couples are when they do! I loved their first meeting and then the inevitable struggle as Carrie becomes the nanny for Seth’s preteen daughter. It’s not easy for them to ignore their attraction but they do try … and although they don’t necessarily succeed, I have to like that it is pretty drama free between them. They understand why that it is best to keep things professional and they try their hardest to keep it that way.
I am pretty surprised at how many 3 star or less reviews there are for this one. I’m actually mostly amused by how many of them are based solely on the fact that this is in third person. That never bothers me and I didn’t have any difficulty following along here so I guess it’s just a personal preference thing. There were also some complaints that the ending was too rushed but I thought it worked. It may not have been as emotion-driven as some but I think that it worked well with the flow of the rest of the story.
Overall, I found On the Line to be amusing, flirty, sexy, and full of heart. It was entertaining watching the two of them fight their feelings for Madison’s sake … and, of course, fail! Is it predictable? Probably, but it is enjoyable regardless. Bringing light-hearted fun with enough feels to keep you turning pages, Lincoln delivers a winner in my opinion.

This first book in the Milwaukee Dragons series was the ultimate slow burn!!
Seth was recently traded to Milwaukee and, as a single dad, is trying to juggle his new team and his 12 year-old daughter. A chance meeting with Carrie leads to flirty texts and the possibility of more until she shows up to interview to be his daughter’s nanny. Carrie needs a job more than she needs a relationship with this insanely attractive man. They both want to do the right thing and stay away from each other but the chemistry and attraction is undeniable.
I loved that Seth was so devoted to making his daughter happy. I like Carrie but I felt like she didn’t have a direction and maybe that’s why she never got any of the jobs she applied for. I like that these two didn’t just jump in and ignore the potential consequences of them getting together but the slow burn seemed to drag a bit toward the end. This is my first book by this author but I’m definitely going to be picking up the next book in this series!!
If you think I picked this book up because of that abs-alicious cover – well, okay yeah. You’re right. But also: football. Also, also: Single dad + nanny. This set-up had a lot of things going for it. Basically, all of my favorite things wrapped up in a (hot damn) pretty package.
For me? There was no false advertising here. Liz Lincoln is a new to me author, so I didn’t really know what I was going to get beyond what the cover and blurb promised, and I was so pleasantly surprised by how easily I was sucked into this story and how engaging the writing was. I basically gobbled this book up, you guys. It was such an easy read – the overall feeling was light, fun, and sexy, but it also touches on some more emotional issues (and at least one point resonated with me strongly enough to bring tears to my eyes).
I totally bought into Seth and Carrie’s chemistry. I basically fell in love with them from their fun and unique meet-cute, and then stayed on board while their physical attraction steamed up my kindle, and their emotional connection filled up my heart.
This story didn’t exactly play out the way I expected it to, but I loved all the ways it surprised me. From the refreshing and original take on the nanny/single dad storyline, to the nerdy/STEM heroine, to the sweet relationship that developed between Carrie and Madison. And, o course there’s not really anything sexier than a devoted single dad (except maybe a devoted single professional football player dad. Right? Yeah. That. *fans self*).
I did feel like things got rushed toward the end and I wasn’t crazy the way the conflict played out. It resolved quickly and a smidge too neatly, and yet not quite completely. That is, not all hanging threads were resolved and I would have maybe liked a little more time in the aftermath of the conflict. I invested pretty heavily in all three of these main characters, and felt a little bit like I wanted more from them once the conflict was resolved.
That said, I did thoroughly enjoy this story. I’m so glad I heeded the call of this positively lickable cover, and will definitely be back for more! ~ 4 “Iron Thor” Stars
When Carrie Herron bumps into a sexy, single dad in the grocery store and he comes to her aid, and then moments later she has the chance to reciprocate she thinks she has hit the dating jackpot, so she gives him her number and crosses her fingers he’ll call. But her excitement about a possible date deflates rather quickly when she finds out she is being kicked out of her home, due to it being sold, now not only is she out of job, but a home too. So, she turns to her brother in hopes he can give her a temporary landing spot, and he offers her a deal she just can’t pass up… his buddy needs a live-in nanny as soon as possible. It seems like it’s the answers to all her prayers, until she shows up on their doorstep!
Seth Chamberlain has just been transferred to Milwaukee, and hasn’t had much time to find someone to look after his daughter while he is on the road during football season, he has always depended on his family before now, but their miles away and of no help now. So, he turns to his old college buddy in hopes that he might know someone trustworthy and reliable, and it just so happens he has the perfect person for the job, his sister. Seth doesn’t remember much about her, but the moment she shows up on his doorstep he has a dire need to get to know every inch of her… but mixing business with pleasure would be wrong on so many levels!
This first time read had me had me nodding in agreeance a time or two, giggling a time or two, and swooning a whole heck of a lot!!! I thoroughly enjoyed diving between the pages of this one, I am a sports romance fanatic so it spoke to me on that level, I have a spirited tween daughter so it resonated a little there too, and of course the hunky football star in the story had me thinking of my favorite player in Wisconsin…. so that alone is a win in my book! Not to mention it put a good squeeze on my heart and stirred up some feels, there was just so much to like about this one, the characters were unique and hard no to love, and the story line was well crafted. I highly recommend you take a chance on this one, Seth is sure to have you blushing throughout!!

Mary Jo –
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The sparks between Carrie and Seth are off the chart and it’s easy to see how the sexual tension plays a major role in this book.
The ups and downs of single parenthood are well written and it’s easy to see the difficulties they face when trying to balance what’s best for the children vs having a personal life.
Ruthie –
This is the first in a new series, and I think it bodes well for future books. It is sports based, but as Seth doesn’t get out much, we only briefly meet teammates.
I felt that the fact that Carrie is a soon-to-be-evicted, unemployed teacher in a jam, rather than a career nanny, did make the whole story a lot more interesting. She was older and more experienced than the average nanny, and the connection through her brother played a part in her getting the job. It also added the pressure on them not to get involved in any way. And whilst their attraction was immediate and stronger than one might expect, the very fact they couldn’t act on it clearly made it worse. It was fun watching on – especially at the cosplay convention. Given that the story needed to get through a whole season, there were some time jumps which I also think made the intensity of their feelings and the acting on them more realistic.
Overall, this was a sweet read about a single dad travelling in uncharted waters with a tween and trying to keep her happy beyond everything else. His heart was in the right place, and in the end, he learned a valuable lesson which ensured that we got the happy ending we wanted – well happy for now, assuming we will get more in future installments (please)!
Lee’Anne –
This was a cute story – I love that it starts out with a clueless single dad trying to pick out tampons for his young teen’s first period, it was an intriguing way to start the story and had me sucked right in.
Seth is a professional athlete who has just been traded from Houston to Milwaukee, his 12 year old daughter, Madison, isn’t taking the move well at all. Seth is struggling to find her a nanny when the perfect person makes an appearance – Carrie. Carrie is an out of work teacher and an all-around geek who loves science. She and Seth’s daughter hit it off from the get-go with their mutual love for all things nerdy. Unfortunately for Seth, Carrie isn’t willing to mix business with pleasure and though the two send some super-hot texts back and forth, Carrie isn’t willing for there to be a relationship while she’s nannying his daughter.
I read a lot of sports romances and really love the originality of this one – it’s not the same overdone story. Carrie is one of my favorite characters that I’ve read in a long while – she’s very relatable and has a quirky personality that I enjoyed reading. I’m looking forward to more from this author!
Reviewers on the Wicked Reads Review Team were provided a free copy of On the Line (Milwaukee Dragons #1) by Liz Lincoln to read and review.
On the Line by Liz Lincoln is page turning! This is a Rom-Com for sure. Be ready for laughs galore. You will love Carrie and Seth but you will fall in love with Maddie.
Carrie and Seth met at the grocery store. A simple act of kindness on his part and on her part, turn into them exchanging phone numbers. It starts with some texting which turns into sexting.
Carrie, an out of work science teacher, has burned through her savings. Unable to find another teaching job, she has no choice to except an interview as a nanny. When the man hiring a nanny for is daughter turns out to be the guy she has been sexting, things heat up.
Seth, a pro football player, has been traded to the Milwaukee Dragons. With the move, he has given up his support system when it comes to his twelve year old daughter. No more parents around to help. When the nanny he hires turns out to be the woman he has been sexting, things get interesting.
Carrie and Seth have burning chemistry from the start. However, when she starts working for him they decide it will be best if they do not act on their chemistry. Said chemistry turns into some major sexual tension. These two try and fight their growing feelings but being around each other daily does not help.
Maddie, Seth’s daughter, has different ideas. Yes, she loves Carrie but will she be okay if her dad and Carrie enter a relationship? Will Carrie and Seth give in?
4.5 stars.
**Review by Elizabeth, Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night with Books Blog**
I really enjoyed Carrie & Seth’s story. Single parent stories always give me the feels and this one is no exception. It’s such a sweet love story full of sexy, flirty, witty and steamy moments that will seriously make you smile. Seth is sweet and also a very hot and hunky football player trying to be a good dad. Carrie is such a unique and quirky heroine who I really like, and she is in need of a job. Her brother gets her an interview as a nanny with none other than you guessed it, Seth. This does not bode well for either of them since they have been flirting over texts after meeting at the grocery store. Carrie needs a job more than she needs a man so she takes the job knowing they can forget about a relationship with Seth being her boss now. I love how she is able to find some interesting common ground with Seth’s daughter and how she really brings the shine back to Maddie.
Can these two manage to keep a strictly professional relationship with Carrie living with them? Can they ignore the chemistry and the easy way they are around each other for the sake of a job and his daughter? You’ll have to read and find out. It’s a quick, fun read!!
This is a sexy, flirty, chemistry-driven, laugh out loud, and above all fun book! Carrie Herron is an out of work science teacher who is being evicted from her home and after looking for work and countless interviews is ready to take a job at a coffee shop when her brother sets her up with an interview for a nanny position. She thinks, what does she have to lose, it is only one 12 year old instead of a classroom of them. The only problem is the dad is none other than Seth Chamberlain, the man she has been sexting with after a cute-meet in the grocery store. They have great chemistry over texting and flirting and the ultimate next step is a date only now with the job that is not going to happen. Carrie and Maddie (the daughter) bond over comics and are great together but 12 year olds are moody and snarky at best and she is really mad at her dad for moving her to a new city. Watching these two figure out how to live together and not touch for so long and then come together was touching and add in a tween with an attitude it is hilarious. I suggest this one for a great time!
I received an ARC of this delightful book from netgalley.com and what follows is my unbiased and voluntary review.
They meet in the checkout line of the grocery store, eyeing each other while waiting for “the slowest cashier on the planet”. He rescued her when she couldn’t find her wallet. She returned the favor when she found out he was a single dad, buying super plus tampons for his 12 year old daughter, who had just gotten her first period, guiding him to the correct product. This was going to be a great story for their grandchildren some day.
Carrie Heron was a 6 year veteran science teacher, but despite the experience, good recommendations and annual reviews, had been unemployed after her contract had not been renewed due to budget cuts in Milwaukee and she had not been able to find a new position (this is the only part of the story where reality has to be suspended, because science and math teachers are very much in demand). Her rental had just been sold, so now she was going to have to move into her brother’s condo until she could find another position. Her brother, a talent scout for the Milwaukee Dragons major league football team (an imaginary team, not the real women’s team) tells her that his former college roommate and best friend, had just been traded to the Dragons and was looking for a live-in nanny for his daughter. Needing a job, she goes to meet Lainie, never having met the ex-roommate. So, who opens the door, but her grocery hero, who she had been texting with and was looking forward to a date with? “Lainie” was a nickname, but her handsome hero is Seth Chamberlain. She needs a job, he needs a nanny and when his daughter Maddie finds out that Carrie is into comics, cosplay and comic cons, she wants Carrie. So they decide that their relationship must stay professional. Easier said then done, when you’ve finally met the person who was meant to be yours. Can they put their relationship on the line for Maddie?
I really enjoyed reading this book becasue of the light and humorous style, endearing characters and story line. A hot, yet nice hero doesn’t hurt either.
I really enjoyed this book… The first for my by this author and can’t wait to continue the series.
Seth Chamberlain: single dad who’s a professional football player,
Carrie Heron: science teacher who is into comics and cosplay.
This story although I feel like we need more of Seth and Carrie as if they have more to tell; even an epilogue would have given something more, a closing of sorts however, I would definitely still recommend this. Well-written with characters you can connect to. I couldn’t put this down; didn’t want it to end and finished it in one sitting.
Two people who meet at the grocery store – a single dad shopping for his twelve year old daughter and an unemployed science teacher currently down on her luck. They make a connection and start a sequence of events that neither expected.
Then a turn/twist as they realize who the other is and why everything that they have been looking forward to and want; the connection that can’t go any further.
The sexual tension between these two is everything at times and when they can no longer separate the personal and the professional are the risks they are about to take worth it?
Dive in and read the story of Seth and Carrie you will not be disappointed.!
4.5 Stars
Seth has been traded to the NFL team, the Milwaukee Dragons (sort of wish there was a team named the Dragon. The could play the L.A. Unicorns. But I digress). He has a meet cute with Carrie in the grocery store where he is trying to buy products for his twelve year old daughters first period. They exchange numbers and start to flirt text while he is out of town for work (Carrie has no clue what he does) and they plan on going out when he gets back. Carrie is a teacher who has been laid off and lost her apartment, so she is thrilled when her brother sets up an interview with his old college football buddy “Lainie” as a nanny. Of course, Seth Chamberlain is “Lainie”. What I liked about this was there was instant attraction, but the love took time to develop. I did wish that they had developed the relationship of the daughter Maddie, and Carrie more. I also wish that that an epilogue had been included. If you want a fun sports/single dad romance, this is worth a read.
I look forward to the next installment in the series.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
